  • Jason Kelce chokes up reflecting on meeting his wife for first time: ‘Talk about couple goals’

Jason Kelce chokes up reflecting on meeting his wife for first time: ‘Talk about couple goals’

Jason Kelce had a lot of people to thank for supporting his career in the NFL, but he couldn’t go without mentioning his wife and mother to his three children, Kylie Kelce.

On Monday 4 March, the Philadelphia Eagles centre formally announced during a press conference that he was retiring after playing for 13 seasons. As he looked back on his career, Jason also made sure to give credit to his wife for being by his side through it all, as he remembered the moment the pair met and kickstarted their love story.

“I won’t forget the Eagles’ Christmas party in 2014 and heading out afterwards with a bunch of my teammates to Buffalo Billiards, where my life would change forever,” he said during the press conference.

“That night, I’d meet my future wife. I still remember the moment she walked through the door.”

He continued with tears in his eyes as he said the “first instance” in which he saw her was “burned in my retina”.

“It was like she glided through the opening, an aura around her. Then she started talking and I thought: ‘Man, is this what love feels like?’” he said of Kylie, 31. “She was beautiful and smart, serious yet playful. I knew it right away.”

At another point during the press conference, he credited her for his best seasons playing the sport. “I think it’s no coincidence that I have enjoyed my best years of my career with Kylie by my side. Every accolade I have ever received has come with her in my life,” he said about his wife.

“She has brought the best out of me through love, devotion, support, honesty, intelligence, and of course, a swift kick in the ass from time to time.”

Jason praised Kylie for giving him “three beautiful girls and a life that increasingly brings me more fulfilment off the field than it does on”.

Clips from the press conference have recirculated on X, formerly known as Twitter, with many people leaving comments about how sweet the gesture was.

“This is probably the most heartfelt speech I’ve ever heard. The world needed Kylie and Jason Kelce. Philadelphia got the best 13 years anyone has had from these two – ‘how to live,’” one comment on the platform began. “As great as Jason is at talking – I can’t wait to hear him give the ‘Best Man speech’ at Travis and Taylor’s wedding. Can you imagine?”

Another commenter agreed, writing: “My Lord… that love and respect is beautiful.”

“Talk about couple goals!!!! No couple right now could handle Jason and Kylie’s love story!!!! I want that kind of love!!!!” a third commenter gushed about the speech.

The older Kelce also took time to thank everyone who has helped him along the way – including his parents, Donna and Ed Kelce; his brother Travis; and Kylie, who were all holding back tears in the audience.

The Kansas City Chiefs tight end – who was sitting in the front row next to his parents and sister-in-law – was even seen wiping away his tears with a tissue. However, the 34-year-old athlete came prepared as he concealed his face with a pair of dark sunglasses.

At one point during his retirement announcement, Jason took the opportunity to give a shout-out to his younger brother Travis. “It was really my brother and I our whole lives. We did almost everything together – competed, fought, laughed, cried and learned from each other,” the father of three said.

“We invented games, imagined ourselves as star players of that time. We envisioned making winning plays day after day. We won countless Super Bowls in our minds before ever leaving the house. And when we weren’t playing, we were at the other one’s games.”

  • The creator of the retirement gift from Jason Kelce built Wooden Arrowhead Stadium in Travis Kelce and Taylor Swift’s honor

The creator of the retirement gift from Jason Kelce built Wooden Arrowhead Stadium in Travis Kelce and Taylor Swift’s honor

Woodworker Dana Theobald posted photos of the replica of the Kansas City Chiefs’ stadium on Instagram

Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce have had something special made in their honor!

Earlier this week, Kylie Kelce, 32, revealed that she’d commissioned Georgia-based artist and woodworker Dana Theobald to create a custom wooden replica of Lincoln Financial Field — the stadium where Philadelphia Eagles center Jason Kelce, 36, played for 13 seasons before retiring.

On Thursday, April 25, Theobold then revealed another piece, and this time it was a gift made in honor of Swift and Travis, both 34. The artist shared multiple photos of a wooden replica of Arrowhead Stadium, which is the home of Travis’ team the Kansas City Chiefs, to Instagram.

Theobold then rephrased some of the lyrics to Taylor’s 2022 single “Karma,” writing on the woodwork, “Karma is the guy on the Chiefs coming straight home to me” alongside a love heart.

Theobold added glittering gold bits around the frame, along with Travis’ Chiefs number 87.

“Arrowhead Stadium – Taylor & Travis’ Version !💛❤️ (this was just a thank you gift I made on the side for fun so it is unavailable),” Theobold captioned the post, not confirming whether the piece had been sent to Swift and her Kansas City Chiefs player boyfriend.

Theobold, who has also made replicas of stadiums where the pop superstar has performed on her Eras Tour, didn’t immediately respond when contacted by PEOPLE.

Theobold’s post came after Kylie Kelce wrote on her Instagram Stories on Monday, April 22, “I messaged @danatheo.designs TWO years ago! She came up with this beautiful custom design and then waited for me to give the retirement green light and J’s final list of accolades,” referencing Jason’s NFL retirement announcement in March.

“Thank you so much @danatheo.designs for your patience and the perfect retirement gift! 🥰,” she added in another post.

  • “Wouldn’t Have Won Sh*t Without Dennis Rodman”: NBA Champion Makes Bold Claim on Michael Jordan and Scottie Pippen

“Wouldn’t Have Won Sh*t Without Dennis Rodman”: NBA Champion Makes Bold Claim on Michael Jordan and Scottie Pippen

The NBA in the 90s was dominated by one team, the Chicago Bulls. Led by Michael Jordan along with players like Scottie Pippen, the Bulls were unstoppable in the decade. Winning two three-peats, the Bulls were absolutely unstoppable.

Much of the success was due to the well built all-round team and the greatness of ‘Air Jordan’. While the Bulls’ first three peat was fabulous, their second three-peat with Dennis Rodman as their third star was arguably the most iconic of times in the NBA.

The big three of MJ, Pippen and Rodman were simply one of the most balanced trios in NBA history. While Scottie and Jordan took care of the offensive end, it was Rodman who clamped on players and gave the team multiple second chances with his rebounding.

Robert Parish claims Michael Jordan and the Bulls wouldn’t have succeeded without Rodman

Dennis Rodman might be one of the most erratic personalities off the court, but on the court, ‘the Worm’ harrowed down on the opposition’s best player. Be it a center or a guard, Rodman’s incredible versatility meant that he could handle them all.

Former NBA champion Robert Parish recently spoke about Rodman. In a recent conversation with Sam Mitchell of the Sirius XM NBA Radio, Parish spoke about where Rodman excelled. “Defensive rebounding is all about will, not about skill. You gotta be willing to play defense, it’s a mindset…. and I think Dennis excelled in that.”

The former Celtics’ star also had a bold claim about Jordan and the Bulls. “With all due respect to Jordan and Pippen, they wouldn’t have won sh*t without Dennis Rodman. I don’t care how great Michael is or how great Scottie is, they wouldn’t have won sh*t without Dennis Rodman.”

This is certainly a massive statement by Parish. Considering how iconic the duo of Jordan and Pippen was, claiming that they wouldn’t succeed is rather bold. While the duo of MJ and Pippen did succeed winning their first three-without Rodman, the team was significantly better with ‘the Worm’.

In the three seasons the Bulls big three played, the Bulls made the top 3 of the defensive rating chart each season. To give some context, their record rating in the first three-peat was significantly lower as they didn’t even break top 5.

The team was also elite offensively as they had the best offensive rating in the league for the first two seasons. Rodman might not have chipped in with points, but there are no doubts that he made the team a defensive juggernaut. Would the Bulls have succeeded without Rodman during their second three-peat?

  • “From that point on, Dennis Rodman was straight as an arrow, and we started to win”: Bulls legend Michael Jordan recalls the only time he called out The Worm in their three seasons together

“From that point on, Dennis Rodman was straight as an arrow, and we started to win”: Bulls legend Michael Jordan recalls the only time he called out The Worm in their three seasons together

“Dennis Rodman and Bill Laimbeer try to live up to their image as a**holes”: When Michael Jordan expressed his disdain for the Pistons bruisers

The time when Dennis Rodman got Micahel Jordan angry and what followed it worked like a charm on the troublesome forward.

The Chicago Bulls began the 1997-98 season knowing well enough that it’ll be all of their last rides together. The well-documented last season of the Bulls’ dynasty revealed several stories about most of the Bulls, with much concentration on the trio – Michael Jordan, Scottie Pippen, and Dennis Rodman.

Bulls started that season with Pippen recovering from a surgery, meaning Jordan would be relying on Rodman to be his second fiddle, not just a rebounding monster that he usually was. With Jordan and Rodman leading from the front, the Bulls went 24-11 without Pippen.

Scottie made his season debut on January 10th. And then, as we all know, the Bulls most certainly didn’t stop without winning a championship to complete their second 3-peat. One of the greatest basketball dynasties then dissolved with the best possible ending.

But it wouldn’t have ended that way had Jordan, for the first and only time in their 3 years together, didn’t ask Rodman to be more accountable than he was.

Michael Jordan had enough of Rodman in their final year so let him know

It came as a surprise to many that Jordan and Rodman had such a respectful relationship that the former, who is famous for being an arrogant teammate, would leave any of his teammates out of his slander.

But the 5-time MVP had always kept “the Worm” out of his radar of thrashing and rightfully so, as the former “Bad Boy” Pistons man had one of the most threatening presence on the court.

Still during one of the early games in 1997-98, as “Dennis the Menace” got kicked out, Jordan was livid. He made sure Rodman got to know about his displeasure this time. However, things changed after the two-time Defensive Player of the Year went to Jordan’s hotel room to ask for a cigar. Listen to the incident as the 6-time Finals MVP tells it.

“He didn’t say an apology, he didn’t say anything, but by him coming to my room, it was his way of saying, ‘Look, I fu—- up.’ And from that point on, Dennis was straight as an arrow, and we started to win.”

With on fell sweep, MJ had Rodman being accountable and as sharp as ever. Goes to show how much the pair respected each other.

  • Michael Jordan to present Kobe Bryant at Hall of Fame induction

Michael Jordan to present Kobe Bryant at Hall of Fame induction

Michael Jordan will present Kobe Bryant for enshrinement in the Hall of Fame on Saturday in Connecticut.

From gravity-defying dunks and in-air acrobatics to an unquenchable thirst for dominance and an overt disdain for anything shy of excellence, Kobe Bryant spent much of his life following in the footsteps left by Michael Jordan’s iconic Nike sneakers.

This weekend that path winds its way into New England, where Jordan will once more show Bryant the way, this time formally inviting him atop basketball’s most elite mountaintop.

On Saturday Jordan will present Bryant for posthumous enshrinement into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame, an inevitable honor delayed nearly nine months by the Covid-19 pandemic.

The late Los Angeles Lakers legend enters the Hall as the glistening centerpiece of a star-studded 2020 class, one which also includes fellow players Tim Duncan and Kevin Garnett, as well as former WNBA MVP Tamika Catchings and three-time NCAA National Championship coach Kim Mulkey. The nationally televised ceremony tips-off at 5:30 p.m. from Mohegan Sun in Uncasville, Connecticut.

Vanessa Bryant, Kobe’s widow, will speak in honor of her late husband, while Jordan, a 2009 Hall of Fame inductee, will accompany her on stage. On January 26, 2020, Kobe Bryant, along with his 13-year-old daughter Gianna and seven others, tragically died in a California helicopter crash. According to the Hall of Fame, presenters are selected by “incoming Hall of Famers, or their family members if recognized posthumously.”

Following Bryant’s death, it was Vanessa who tabbed Jordan for Kobe’s enshrinement, a nod to the pair’s roundball bond. Kobe had long modeled his game after Jordan’s, considering the six-time NBA champion a mentor and confidant. Jordan, meanwhile, referred to Bryant as his “little brother,” and during Bryant’s Los Angeles memorial service shared that, “When Kobe died, a part of me died.”

Jordan recently revealed that he still clings to the last conversation he and Bryant shared, a series of texts tapped out between the two that Jordan can’t bring himself to remove from his smart phone.

“I don’t know why,” he says, “but I just can’t delete it.”

Though it’s uncertain how much Jordan will speak Saturday night, he’ll no doubt be guarding against a force as unrelenting as any he or Bryant saw during either of their legendary careers – the emotions of the moment. After all, it was during his own Hall of Fame induction in 2009 when Jordan famously failed to fight back rivers of tears, a scene which ultimately birthed the infamous “Crying Jordan Meme.”

But Bryant’s ceremony will be far different than Jordan’s, as the former’s absence figures to hang palpably in the air, just as both Bryant’s No. 8 and No. 24 jerseys float among the Staples Center rafters.

At age 41, Bryant is the rare legend to die prior to his own Hall of Fame induction. The world will never know what he might have said on this evening, how he’d have reflected on his journey, the one traveled along the path paved by Jordan that he was further clearing for Gianna, herself a blossoming basketball player.

And while Bryant’s acceptance speech will go unheard, his achievements have long spoken for themselves. During his 20-year-career – all spent with the Lakers – the 6’6” Bryant collected five NBA championships, was selected to 18 All-Star teams, earned the NBA MVP, and twice led the league in scoring. His 33,643 points scored are 4th most all-time, 1,351 ahead of Jordan, who sits one place back of Bryant.

But as close as Bryant and Jordan were statistically, it’s unlikely that numbers will drive the narrative during this weekend’s events. More likely, the conversation will center around the passion shared by the two elite masters of their craft, one gone far too soon, the other called upon one final time to set the stage for his little brother.

April 15 (UPI) — The Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame on Thursday revealed its list of Hall of Famers who are scheduled to present the Class of 2020, with NBA icon Michael Jordan honoring Los Angeles Lakers great Kobe Bryant.

Jordan, who spoke at Bryant’s memorial service in February 2020, also will introduce Baylor women’s basketball coach Kim Mulkey, making him the only Hall of Famer who will present multiple honorees during this year’s induction ceremony.

The strong connection between Jordan and Bryant came to light when the former Chicago Bulls superstar gave his heartfelt speech at the memorial service after Bryant’s death in a helicopter crash in January 2020.

“Maybe it surprised people that Kobe and I were very close friends, but we were very close friends,” Jordan said. “Kobe was my dear friend; he was like a little brother. … As I got to know him, I wanted to be the best big brother I could be.”

Bryant is one of many big names in the 2020 class, which is being honored May 15 because of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Fellow first-ballot inductees Tim Duncan and Kevin Garnett will be presented by David Robinson and Isiah Thomas, respectively, while two-time NBA champion and former Houston Rockets coach Rudy Tomjanovich will be introduced by franchise legends Hakeem Olajuwon and Calvin Murphy.

Former NBA player Sidney Moncrief, Kansas head coach Bill Self and Kentucky head coach John Calipari will present Eddie Sutton, who made three Final Fours and was the national college coach of the year four times. Sutton died last May.

Five-time Division II national coach of the year Barbara Stevens will be introduced by Connecticut women’s coach Geno Auriemma and former Notre Dame women’s coach Muffet McGraw, while WNBA great Tamika Catchings will be presented by Alonzo Mourning and South Carolina women’s coach Dawn Staley.
Longtime FIBA executive Patrick Baumann, who died in 2018, will be honored by former NBA deputy commissioner Ross Granik and Vlade Divac.

When Los Angeles Lakers great Kobe Bryant is posthumously enshrined in the basketball Hall of Fame next month he’ll be welcomed in by arguably the sport’s greatest player – Michael Jordan.

Bryant’s family selected Jordan to present him at the May 15 ceremony at the Mohegan Sun Arena in Connecticut, according to a statement from the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame.

The five-time NBA champion and the fourth all-time leading scorer in NBA history was elected into the Hall last April in his first year of eligibility – just months after Bryant, his 13-year-old daughter, Gianna, and seven others were killed in a January 26 helicopter crash in Southern California.

Jordan described Bryant as a little brother in an emotional speech at his memorial service at the Staples Center, where Bryant made so many highlights during his 20-year career.

“When Kobe Bryant died, a piece of me died, and as I look at this arena and across the globe, a piece of you died,” he said last February. “I promise you, from this day forward, I will live with the memories of knowing that I had a little brother that I tried to help in every way I could. Please rest in peace, little brother.”

The enshrinement ceremony for Bryant and the Hall of Fame Class of 2020, which includes players Tim Duncan, Kevin Garnett and 10-time WNBA All-Star Tamika Catchings, was delayed because of the Covid-19 pandemic.

Jordan also will present Baylor coach Kim Mulkey, who led her team to three NCAA national championships and is the only person to ever win championships as a player, assistant coach and a head coach.

The ceremony will also honor coaches Rudy Tomjanovich, Barbara Stevens and Eddie Sutton, who died in May, and Swiss basketball executive Patrick Baumann, who died in 2018.
