Jason Kelce responds to intense rumors he’s landed prime time hosting gig with ESPN – but warns brother Travis deal isn’t done yet

Jason Kelce reportedly has a new job.

The legendary Philadelphia Eagles hung up his jersey at the end of last season, fuelling speculation about what his next career move will be.

Recently, The Athletic’s Andrew Marchand reported that the former offensive lineman is joining ESPN’s ‘Monday Night Countdown’ — the network’s ‘Monday Night Football’ pregame show.

Kelce hasn’t spoke about the reports until today, when he all but confirmed the rumors while speaking to brother Travis on their New Heights podcast.

“Jason is heading to TV land,” Travis said on the episode. “We all knew it was f***ing coming we just didn’t know which direction you were going.

    “That’s right,” Jason responded.

“Noting’s been officially inked yet or announced yet. Obviously there’s been a lot of reports out there about me going to ESPN. Time will take care of that.

“It’s a tremendous honor to even be considered to potentially work there.

“That network was everything that Travis and I watched growing up. We talk about it all the time. We lived watching ESPN.”

“It fuelled out love for sports,” Travis added.”We were glued to the TV each and every day so the fact that I may potentially-probably-will be working there is pretty darn cool,” Jason continued.

    “That’s awesome, man” Travis added.

“That’s some cool stuff to see full circle because we used to live and die by ESPN on that TV growing up. I’m happy as hell for you.”

“I’m a talking head,” said Jason.

“Meeting and talking to everyone at ESPN it became apparent that it was really the right fit.

“It’s something I’m really looking forward to, this next phase.

“I know to some degree who I’m working with and think very, very highly of all of them.

“I’m excited to learn. I know a lot about football but not a lot about this world. So it’s just another avenue to continue to expand my knowledge and create relationships – that’s what this business is all about.

    “Really excited.”

The Athletic previously reported that Jason could line up a new deal with one of the major US television networks, with the deal potentially including Travis and the brothers’ podcast.

Per that report, NBC, CBS and ESPN were all interested in acquiring Jason’s talents for a major TV role.

Amazon Prime Video was also a contender to land Jason’s services, with one potential deal involving Travis and the podcast.

New Heights fans will be relieved to know that Jason joining ESPN won’t have any impact on the podcast.

The elder Kelce joining ESPN comes after the network added two other powerhouse names this offseason.

They have added Nick Saban to its college football coverage and Bill Belichick to its NFL coverage.

Both Saban and Belichick were lauded for their performances during the NFL Draft. The former Patriots head coach in particular went down a storm and will appear weekly on ‘The Pat McAfee Show’ – which is licensed by ESPN – on Mondays during the NFL season.

Kelce is expected to be joined on ESPN’s ‘Monday Night Countdown’ by host Scott Van Pelt and analysts Marcus Spears and Ryan Clark.

Robert Griffin III is not expected back.

ESPN won the Jason Kelce sweepstakes

A source familiar with the negotiations has confirmed to TODAY.com that Kelce, recently retired from the NFL, is stepping into this new role.

ESPN has chosen to remain tight-lipped about the development, but The Athletic was quick to report this exciting addition to the cast.

Kelce’s decision to retire from the NFL marks the end of a remarkable 13-season career, during which he garnered seven Pro Bowl appearances, six All-Pro honors, and played a pivotal role in the Eagles’ Super Bowl triumph in 2018.

Known for his vibrant personality and captivating antics, Kelce endeared himself to football fans nationwide.

His retirement announcement in March was an emotional moment, underscoring the impact he had on the game.

Jason will continue with “New Heights” podcast along Travis

However, Kelce’s journey doesn’t end with retirement from professional football.

With a penchant for entertaining and connecting with audiences, Kelce is no stranger to the broadcast realm.

Alongside his brother, Kansas City Chiefs star tight end Travis Kelce, he hosts the successful “New Heights” podcast, showcasing his versatility beyond the gridiron.

Kelce’s pivot to ESPN’s“Monday Night Countdown” is not surprising given his wife Kylie Kelce’s earlier hints about his potential career shift.

She spoke on NBC’s “TODAY” show, emphasizing Kelce’s ability to excel in various endeavors.

Kelce’s recent appearances at high-profile events like the Chiefs’ playoff game and “WrestleMania 40” showcased his larger-than-life persona, setting the stage for his transition to television.

The news of Kelce’s new role is expected to coincide with ESPN’s upfront presentation to advertisers on May 14, adding further anticipation to the upcoming NFL season.

As Kelce embarks on this new chapter, he will continue his podcasting ventures and his documentary film with Prime Video, ensuring that his dynamic presence resonates far beyond the football field.

The recently retired Jason Kelce is headed to ESPN to be part of its “Monday Night Football” pregame show, sources briefed on the move told The Athletic.

Kelce, who just retired after what is considered a Hall of Fame career with the Philadelphia Eagles, was sought after by multiple networks, but is slated to land on ESPN’s “Monday Night Countdown.”

    ESPN declined to comment.

Kelce and his brother, Travis, have a popular podcast called “New Heights.” Jason, 36, has been interested in media and drew interest from NBC, CBS and Amazon, among others. He and his wife, Kylie, already had a pre-existing relationship with Amazon as they did a documentary series called, “Kelce,” which followed him around during his final season. Amazon Prime Video’s Thursday Night set is already pretty packed. NBC and CBS were both interested in adding Kelce to their Sunday desks.

The Disney upfronts are two weeks away and Kelce is likely to be a part of it. ESPN also has picked up Bill Belichick, the other biggest NFL media free agent of this offseason. Belichick will appear weekly on “The Pat McAfee Show” on Mondays during the NFL season. McAfee will pay Belichick to be on his program, which is licensed on ESPN.

Meanwhile, a Belichick deal with Peyton Manning’s Omaha Productions is slated to happen that would include Belichick becoming a semi-regular guest on the Manningcast. ESPN’s “Monday Night Countdown” is hosted by Scott Van Pelt and features analysts Marcus Spears and Ryan Clark. The Athletic previously reported that another of the analysts on the program, Robert Griffin III, was unlikely to return.

  • Kylie Kelce gives former Philadelphia Eagles center Jason Kelce the perfect retirement gift

Kylie Kelce gives former Philadelphia Eagles center Jason Kelce the perfect retirement gift

No one has supported Jason Kelce’s football career more than his wife, Kylie. And so when he retired from the NFL after 13 career seasons, Kylie gave Jason the perfect gift.

Kylie had a wood replica of Lincoln Financial Field made, with Jason’s name engraved along with all of his accolades.

Earlier this month, the two celebrated their sixth wedding anniversary, with everyone having fallen in love with the iconic couple due to their incredible banter. And the story of the two meeting is one that nobody will ever forget.

“I won’t forget the Eagles Christmas party in 2014, and heading out afterwards with a bunch of my teammates to Buffalo Billiards, where my life would change forever. That night, I’d meet my future wife,” Kelce said during his retirement speech. “I still remember the moment she walked through the door. The first instance is burned in my retina. It was like she glided through the opening, an aura around her. Then she started talking and I thought, ‘Man, is this what love feels like?’”m

Jason’s retirement speech was very emotional, but as usual, along with complimenting him, Kylie provided a funny comment when asked what she thought about it.

“It, of course, made me emotional,” she said during an interview with NBC10 in March. “It cracks me up that he tries to talk about what he remembers from that night because he was, as I’ve said before, intoxicated. It was very, very sweet. Very kind. It was far too much credit.”

While fans are no longer going to get to see Jason on the field competing with the Eagles, his New Heights podcast will hopefully provide plenty more Kylie content.

And as for how he’s keeping busy, Kylie believes that Jason will eventually find something to do. At least she hopes he does.

“He needs to get out of the — it’s not that I need him to get out of the house. It’s like he needs to get out of the house. I think that with three small children, I don’t think golf is going to cut it,” Kylie said on The Today Show at the beginning of April.

Travis Kelce’s Sister-in-Law Kylie Kelce Subtly Teases Him About Taylor Swift While Making This Request

Kylie Kelce has no problem using her brother-in-law Travis Kelce’s romance with Taylor Swift to her advantage. The wife of Travis’ older brother, Jason Kelce, appeared on the brothers’ special family holiday episode of their New Heights podcast on Friday, where she talked about the new pet she’s been wanting.

“I told Jason that I want a cat, and he told me no. And I feel like… you might like cats now,” Kylie said to Travis, with some pointed pauses.

Swifties know that Taylor is the proud owner of three cats — Meredith Grey, Olivia Benson, and Benjamin Button.

Of course, Travis was immediately on board with helping his sister-in-law secure her new pet.

“What color? What color should I do?” Travis asked her.

“I don’t want you to send a cat. I just want you to get on my team here,” Kylie clarified.

The request was an about face for Kylie, who shared that she had a strict rule against Travis getting their family “anything with a heartbeat.”

In fact, Kylie said that if Travis does give them a pet she will retaliate with “a full petting zoo on your front lawn.”

Kylie and Jason are parents to young daughters Wyatt, Elliotte, and Bennett.

In addition to teasing Travis about his new affinity for cats, Kylie also gave Taylor’s brother, Austin Swift, a shoutout for attending Travis’ Christmas Day game with the Kansas City Chiefs in a Santa suit.

“That was a full commit, and I respect that,” Kylie said of Austin’s festive game day attire.

Back in November, Kylie shut down rumors that she was avoiding “the Taylor Swift spotlight,” after she gave an interview about not liking attention.

“Go watch that interview,” she urged her followers on TikTok. “I said it’s not my cup of tea to be, like, have attention on me.”

She continued, pointing at the headline, “I didn’t say that. That seems like a stretch to me. You are reachin’, you’re reachin’, you’re reachin’.”

Kylie Kelce loves Jason Kelce’s version of how they met — even if it might not be entirely accurate.

During an interview with NBC Philadelphia on Tuesday, March 5, Kylie, 31, reacted to Jason, 36, bringing up how they met while giving a speech about his retirement from the Philadelphia Eagles. Kylie called Jason’s words “very, very sweet” but said his version “cracks me up” since he was “intoxicated” when they initially crossed paths.

Jason announced his retirement in a press conference on Monday, March 4, after 13 years playing center for the Eagles. While discussing his career highs, Jason credited Kylie for keeping him grounded throughout the journey.

“I won’t forget the Eagles’ Christmas party in 2014 and heading out afterwards with a bunch of my teammates to Buffalo Billiards where my life would change forever,” he said. “That night, I’d meet my future wife. I still remember the moment she walked through the door.”Jason got visibly emotional while recalling the “first instance” he saw Kylie — who he had matched with on Tinder — at the bar. “It was like she glided through the opening, an aura around her. Then she started talking and I thought, ‘Man, is this what love feels like?’” he continued. “She was beautiful and smart, serious yet playful. I knew it right away.”

The athlete praised Kylie for making his time in the NFL better, adding, “I think it’s no coincidence that I have enjoyed my best years of my career with Kylie by my side. Every accolade I have ever received has come with her in my life. She has brought the best out of me through love, devotion, support, honesty, intelligence, and of course, a swift kick in the ass from time to time.”

Jason, who shares daughters Wyatt, 4, Ellie, 3, and Bennet, 12 months, with Kylie, thanked his wife for making him a dad.

“[Thank you for] three beautiful girls and a life that increasingly brings me more fulfillment off the field than it does on,” he concluded. “We’ve had a great run, Ky.”

After playing college football for the Cincinnati Bearcats, Jason was selected by the Eagles during the 2011 draft, with the team winning the Super Bowl against the New England Patriots in 2017.

Kylie confirmed on Tuesday Jason’s decision to retire was years in the making.

“I’ve heard multiple versions over the last four years. This was a completely different version,” she shared. “I think every year he sort of started from scratch as to what was sitting on the surface. But when he said that he was contemplating retirement for years, he means for years.”

She concluded: “I think I was the only one that had heard the speech before he went into it. I think it was just a perfect summary of 13 years. It was an incredible run he had as a player in the NFL.”

In a heartfelt speech that lasted around 45 minutes, Kelce expressed his gratitude for the remarkable journey he had experienced in the NFL.

“So, this all brings us here to today,” he began, announcing his decision to retire from the league after over a decade with the Philadelphia Eagles.

The new ESPN contract terms for Jason Kelce are out, include a massive New Heights clause and a multi-year agreement worth millions of dollars

Jason Kelce will be joining an NFL legend after receiving his new ESPN contract

JASON Kelce was “delighted” to pen a $1.8 million a year Monday Night Football deal with ESPN – because it allows him to continue working on his New Heights podcast with brother Travis.

The U.S. Sun has spoken to a source close to the Philadelphia Eagles legend who claims the three-year contract has a sign-on bonus of an extra $1 million.

Fox was keen to land Jason and was ready to offer a three-year deal, worth $2 million a year.

But The U.S. Sun understands that ESPN is happy to give him “full freedom” to work on New Heights, which was a deal breaker.

The podcast is continuing to make serious waves and we reported earlier this month how sponsors are queuing up for a piece of the action with deals worth an eye-watering $90 million.

ESPN, as part of the agreement, can buy New Heights if the brothers decide to sell before 2025.

Jason wanted to sign up with the sports broadcasting giant – Amazon, NBC, and CBS were also interested – because it is allowing him to extend his contract at the end of three years and renegotiate his salary.

He will join multiple Super Bowl-winning coach Bill Belichick on the new look Monday Night Football.

The insider said Jason took his time in making the decision, with so many interesting offers to consider.

But the option to just work on Mondays and have the rest of the week to spend time with his family and work on the pod was enough to seal the deal.

Jason is already getting to work, with the source saying, “He is already asking for advice from other members of the crew, and getting prepared for this next step.”

“I knew he wanted to be an analyst to start with, as it will give him great insight into the TV industry,” added the insider who is close to the Kelce family.

“The transition from retiring into something new has been smooth. He loves football, he loves his new life, and he thinks that this next step is the perfect one to transition and be in the football industry for many, many more years.”

The U.S. Sun has revealed the Kelce brothers have been approached by Hollywood bosses who have a $100 million budget for an action movie starring the NFL stars.

Travis, meanwhile, wants to establish himself as a media “heavyweight” and knows his relationship with singing sensation Taylor Swift has helped thrust his profile – and his brothers – into the mainstream.

The 34-year-old Travis wants to expand his horizons through television.

He’ll be the new host of Are You Smarter Than a Celebrity? which is a spin-off of Are You Smarter Than a 5th Grader?

The series will be available to be streamed on Prime Video.

On Monday, Travis signed an adjusted contract with the Kansas City Chiefs, keeping him on the team for another two seasons.

The eight-time Pro Bowl tight end tweaked his current contract that runs through the 2025 season.

The adjusted contract raises Kelce’s 2024-25 total money from $30.25 million up to $34.25 million which guarantees $17 million at signing.

And the deal also guarantees “most of next year” on the third day of the 2025 league year, per ESPN.

Kelce will turn 35 in October as himself and the Chiefs will make their run at the NFL’s first-ever three-peat.

Michael Jordan reaches agreement to sell majority stake in Charlotte Hornets

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (WJZY) — Michael Jordan has officially reached an agreement to sell his stake in the Charlotte Hornets, ending his 13-year run as the majority owner.

Hornets Sports & Entertainment confirmed Friday that Jordan reached an agreement to sell his majority stake in the Charlotte Hornets to a group led by Gabe Plotkin and Rick Schnall.

Plotkin, who acquired a minority stake in the team in 2019, has been an alternate governor on the NBA Board of Governors since 2019 and is the founder and chief investment officer of Tallwoods Capital LLC.

    (Charlotte Hornets)+

Schnall is co-president of Clayton, Dubilier & Rice LLC, where he has worked for 27 years, and has been a significant minority owner of the Atlanta Hawks and an alternate governor on the NBA Board of Governors since 2015, the Hornets said.
How much do NBA All-Star players get paid?
Schnall is in the process of selling his investment in the Hawks, which is expected to be completed in the next several weeks, officials with the Hornets explained.

The Buyer Group will also include Chris Shumway, Dan Sundheim, Ian Loring, Dyal HomeCourt Partners, North Carolina natives recording artist J. Cole and country music singer-songwriter Eric Church, and several local Charlotte investors, including Amy Levine Dawson and Damian Mills.

When the news of Jordan’s initial talks to sell his stake in the Charlotte Hornets broke earlier this year, it was noted that Jordan would maintain a minority stake in the team.

The transaction is subject to the approval of the NBA Board of Governors.
