“Not On My Field”: Coach Andy Reid Fires 3 Top Players On The Spot For Anthem Kneeling

    CityChiefs kneel

In a surprising turn of events, the NFL found itself in the midst of controversy as Coach Andy Reid, at the helm of the Kansas City Chiefs, took a firm stance against anthem kneeling. The resonating repercussions of this decision have sparked debates about the intersection of sports and activism. Let’s delve into the details of this unexpected development and explore the broader implications it carries.

The ritual of players taking a knee during the national anthem has been a symbol of peaceful protest against racial injustice, with athletes using their platform to amplify social issues. However, Coach Andy Reid’s recent decision to terminate three top players over this act has brought a new dimension to the ongoing discourse.

Addressing the media in a post-game press conference, a visibly determined Reid explained his rationale behind the decision. “I respect every individual’s right to express themselves, but on my field, we stand united. The national anthem is a moment of unity for our team and our fans. I won’t tolerate any actions that undermine that unity,” asserted Reid.

Andy Reid Says Black Lives Matter 'Absolutely They Matter, Man. I Think It's A Beautiful Thing'

The abrupt termination of three top players sent shockwaves through the NFL community and beyond. Social media erupted with a mix of support and criticism for Coach Reid’s decision. The move raised questions about the balance between freedom of expression and the expectations placed on athletes in their professional capacities.

As news of their termination spread, the players involved took to social media to express their perspectives. While some voiced understanding of the team’s policies, others saw it as an infringement on their right to peaceful protest. This difference in viewpoints added fuel to the ongoing national conversation about activism in sports.

The public response to Coach Reid’s decision varied, reflecting the broader societal divisions on the issue of anthem kneeling. Supporters commended the coach for upholding tradition and unity, while critics argued that such actions suppress players’ rights to use their platform for social change.

Beyond the court of public opinion, legal experts weighed in on the potential contractual implications of Coach Reid’s decision. The NFL Players Association, known for advocating players’ rights, announced a thorough review of the terminations to ensure adherence to contractual agreements.

The sudden removal of key players undoubtedly has a significant impact on the Chiefs’ roster and dynamics. The void left by these departures raises questions about the team’s performance going forward and its ability to adapt to this sudden shift in personnel.

Coach Reid’s decision prompts a broader examination of the NFL’s stance on player activism. As the league continues to navigate the intersection of sports and social issues, this incident adds another layer to the complex relationship between athletes, coaches, and the league’s expectations.Coach Andy Reid’s bold move to fire three top players for anthem kneeling has stirred the waters of the NFL, emphasizing the ongoing tension between sports and activism. This incident will likely leave a lasting impact on the league’s approach to issues of expression, solidarity, and the role of athletes in advocating for social change. As the dust settles, the NFL faces a critical juncture in defining its stand on matters beyond the gridiron.

Who Always Came Out on Top Football players Travis and Jason Kelce were teammates

The brothers and their teams, the Kansas City Chiefs and Philadelphia Eagles, faced off once again on Nov. 20. Which of the Kelces has the most wins against the other?

    It was another Kelce showdown!

On Monday night, Nov. 20, Jason Kelce’s Philadelphia Eagles took the field against Travis Kelce’s Kansas City Chiefs at Arrowhead Stadium.

Though the teams have faced off many times throughout NFL history, with the Kelce brothers on the roster, they have played each other five times.

When Jason asked Travis on a recent episode of their New Heights podcast if he enjoys playing against him, Travis said it’s “fun as hell, man.”

“I enjoy just being in the NFL with you let alone when we actually get to share the field,” he continued. “It brings all of our family, all of our friends together to watch one game. Outside of the score at the end, I know that … I definitely have fun throughout every single game that we’ve ever played.”

They first went head-to-head in 2013, however, Travis was sidelined with an injury. The next matchup was 2017, followed by 2021 and most notably, the 2023 Super Bowl, which some affectionately nicknamed the Kelce Bowl.

Here, see whose team won each time the Kelces played against each other.

The streak is over! After lamenting on a November episode of New Heights that “We have never beaten the Chiefs in my tenure with the Philadelphia Eagles,” Jason and his Eagles teammates went on to win on Nov. 20, 27-17.

Immediately after the game, Jason and Travis found each other on the field, where they had a brief interaction, sharing an embrace and a laugh before Travis continued on and Jason walked around to greet people on the field.

On New Heights, Jason spoke about the attention that surrounds the brothers anytime their teams do play each other, calling it “a lot,” especially from a media standpoint.

However, “We genuinely love playing against each other,” he added. “There’s a lot of familiarity within both organizations, there’s a lot of our friends and family that get excited and get to watch one game where both of us are playing. So all of that means a lot to us and we get to enjoy that for the entire week.”

In an intense battle of the best, Travis’s Kansas City Chiefs ended up besting Jason’s Philadelphia Eagles, 38-35, during Super Bowl LVII in Glendale, Arizona, this past February.

“So, still sucked. Proud of my team, my guys,” Jason said on an episode of the brothers’ New Heights podcast days later. “Sorry, Philadelphia that we couldn’t f—ing get it done.”

He added to Travis, “But happy for you guys and, you know, that’s the way it goes sometimes.”

The younger Kelce was emotional in a post-game interview, saying it was a “weird feeling” to beat his big brother.

“There’s nothing really I can say to him other than I love him and he played a hell of a year, a hell of a season,” Travis said, per Sports Illustrated.

A particularly good showing by Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes gave Kansas City what the Associated Press deemed a “record-setting” game, with the Chiefs winning 42-30.

The game marked Jason’s 109th consecutive NFL start, according to the AP. It was a quieter game for Travis, who had four catches for 23 yards, but the AP joked his “acting skills were on display” when he played decoy on a special Mahomes play.

Travis scored an important touchdown in this regular season game that saw the Chiefs win against the Eagles at home, 27-20.

The Kelces’ teams first faced off in 2013, however, Travis didn’t play due to a knee injury. The Chiefs did win that one in Philadelphia, 26-16.

  • Eagles rookie excited to see Jason Kelce in the weight room with the squad

Eagles rookie excited to see Jason Kelce in the weight room with the squad

PHILADELPHIA — Dylan McMahon just arrived in South Philadelphia Thursday for the start of his Eagles career, but the rookie center has already received some in-person advice from Jason Kelce.

McMahon, the team’s sixth-round pick out of North Carolina State, was asked Friday if he had a chance to meet Kelce yet.

“I actually did,” McMahon said before the team’s rookies went through a workout Friday on the NovaCare Complex practice fields. “That was pretty crazy. I came in (Thursday) and I had to meet with Mr. Howie (general manager Howie Roseman) and when I went in the weight room to meet him … Jason Kelce was in there and (Roseman) introduced me to Kelce right away. That was a pretty crazy moment because I’ve watched him since I was little playing football.

“He’s the best center to ever do it and to just meet him and have him around this building to be able to pick his brain once in a while is just an amazing experience.”

So what did the two sixth-round picks talk about?

“He looked at me and said, ‘Undersized center?’ ” McMahon said. “We have that in common.”

Yes, they do. Kelce was 6-3 and 280 pounds when the Eagles drafted him 191st overall in the sixth round of the 2011 draft and McMahon checked in at 6-3 and 299 pounds at this year’s draft combine before the Eagles took him with the 190th pick last Saturday.

“We talked a little bit about football and the guys I’ll be facing regularly in our division,” McMahon said. “He just said, ‘Make sure you’re staying in the weight room and putting good weight on you. With the frame of your body, there are good places to put weight and good places to add muscle.’ And then he just wished me good luck. Like I said, it was pretty surreal meeting him and he just said he hopes to be able to help me out in any way he can. It was pretty cool.”

McMahon said he is inspired not only by Kelce’s story, but also the stories of all late-round picks and undrafted players that make it in the NFL.

“There are plenty of those stories … so you know that it’s possible,” McMahon said. “You just have to keep your head down, work hard and really buy into what (offensive line coach Jeff Stoutland) is doing here … and then there’s no ceiling that’s too high.”

McMahon was asked if he planned on hitting up Kelce for more advice in the coming weeks and months.

“I don’t want to bug him,” McMahon said. “I would do it every day if I could. I mean he’s got his own stuff going on. He luckily gave me his number, so if I ever have a question or anything I might just hit him up. If he doesn’t reply, I know he’s got a lot of stuff going on. Hopefully he will eventually. But hopefully I can hit him up as much as I can without bugging him.”

  • “God, I would never draft a big man who couldn’t palm the ball” – Michael Jordan regrets drafting Kwame Brown

“God, I would never draft a big man who couldn’t palm the ball” – Michael Jordan regrets drafting Kwame Brown

Apart from being a Washington Wizards player in 2001, Michael Jordan was also the president of basketball operations and part-owner of the team. He was one of the front office people responsible for drafting Kwame Brown as the Wizards’ No. 1 overall pick that year.

As it turned out, Jordan only agreed to draft Brown in the hope of leveraging a trade deal for Chicago’s Elton Brand. The agreement did not materialize, and MJ was disappointed with how Brown performed. The GOAT voiced his regret to Charles Oakley and unapologetically let Kwame hear it, too.

“God, I would never draft a big man who couldn’t palm the ball,” Jordan said, repeating the sentiment within earshot of Brown via Sports Illustrated.

    Kwame failed to deliver

In retrospect, some could say that Jordan did not give Kwame a fair shot, especially considering Brown was only 18 years old at the time. On the other hand, it’s also hard to disagree with “His Airness” as Kwame’s lackluster debut season with the Wizards only proved to MJ that everything they saw in him in the draft combine wasn’t true.

For Jordan, a 6-foot-11 averaging 38% from the field was unacceptable, let alone if unable to palm a ball.

“It’s a lesson learned,” Michael concluded, admitting drafting Brown was a mistake.

    Kwame opened up

Brown only played two seasons with Jordan, but memories of all the scorning and riding from the GOAT still hurt him to this day. According to ‘Coffee,’ MJ and other Wizards veterans never failed to make him feel that he was unworthy of being there.

Some could say that Michael and company were just toughening him up, but Kwame felt he was mistreated.

“MJ never wanted me on the Wizards from Day 1. He drafted me to trade me for Elton Brand, but the Owner of the Wizards blocked the trade… They used to bring old veterans into practice just to have them foul and beat the crap out of me every day. I had Charles Oakley threatening to beat me up. I was an 18-year-old KID,” Brown once opened up.

After leaving the Wizards in 2005, Brown went on to play for six different teams. Looking back, Kwame had every opportunity to prove Jordan wrong throughout that stretch. Unfortunately, he wasn’t able to do so.

Whether it was misreading on the part of Jordan and the Wizards scouts or something else, it’s safe to say Brown never lived up to his No. 1 overall pick status. Nowadays, NBA fans remember Kwame as one of the biggest busts in the history of the league.

  • Jerry Reinsdorf takes a subtle shot at Michael Jordan during Bulls Ring of Honor: “The only way the night could be better would be if Jerry Krause were there”

Jerry Reinsdorf takes a subtle shot at Michael Jordan during Bulls Ring of Honor: “The only way the night could be better would be if Jerry Krause were there”

It was supposed to be a night to celebrate the Bulls organization for the accomplishments they made. However, the Ring of Honor ceremony became controversial, to say the least.

First, Michael Jordan and Scottie Pippen, the one-two punch that led them to six NBA championships during the 1990s, did not make it to the occasion. Making matters worse, Bulls fans booed former GM Jerry Krause’s widow in a poor display of character. Then, to top it off, team owner Jerry Reinsdorf took a subtle shot at MJ’s absence.

“The only way the night could be better would be if Jerry Krause were there,” said the Bulls’ longtime owner.

Reinsdorf implied that Krause was more important than Jordan

For sure, the Bulls’ inaugural Ring of Honor ceremony would have been complete had everyone been there. But on a night where Jordan, Pippen, and Krause were not there, it couldn’t have been a mistake that the elder Reinsdorf only mentioned the former GM when the three of them were the most important persons during the Bulls’ six-title run during the 1990s.

By saying what he said, Jerry Reinsdorf implied that Jerry Krause was more important than Michael Jordan. Yes, there’s no question that it was Krause who assembled the Dynasty team and gave Jordan the supporting cast he needed to win championship after championship. But we all know that nothing would have happened without MJ.

Jordan is arguably the greatest basketball player of all time. He took the Bulls from the ashes and turned them into one of the most dominant teams in the history of the NBA. Because he could not make it, Jordan spoke via a taped message. While Jordan didn’t say why he didn’t come, everybody knows his relationship with Reinsdorf was as tainted as his connection with Krause

Michael Jordan was bitter at Jerry Reinsdorf

We don’t need to look too far in their history to paint a picture of the relationship between owner and star player. After winning their fourth championship, Reinsdorf was reluctant to pay Jordan his worth. When he finally agreed to give MJ the $30 million deal, he disrespected Michael by telling him straight in his face that he (Reindsdorf ) would live to regret the decision. Of course, the best basketball player in the world did not like that.

“Michael is bitter at Jerry,” a Bulls employee later explained, “because when Jerry agreed to pay him the $30 million, Jerry told Michael that he would regret it. Michael stood in the training room one day the next fall and told all his teammates, ‘You know what really pissed me off? Jerry said, ‘You know what, Michael? I’m gonna live to regret this,’” Author Roland Lazenby wrote in the book Michael Jordan: The Life.

The Chicago Bulls are one of the most successful NBA franchises of all time. But behind the success, plenty was going on. To say the least, their dynasty was tumultuous, especially at the end. Still, they should’ve put their differences aside and celebrated the Ring of Honor with their fans and the city, but then again, that’s probably easier said than done.

Michael Jordan explained why he shouldn’t be called the GOAT: “I didn’t play against all the great players prior to me”

Many people look up to Michael Jordan and say that he is the greatest basketball player of all time. After all, MJ transcended the sport and became its most popular player.

Michael went 6-0 in the NBA Finals and won six Finals MVP awards aside from taking home five NBA MVP awards, 10 scoring titles, and 14 All-Star selections. However, Jordan himself doesn’t think that he is the GOAT.

“False,” Michael said when the late Georgetown head coach John Thompson said he’s the greatest ever. “Cuz I didn’t play against, you know, all the great players prior to me, and those were the players that influence my game.”“I mean, it’s a great honor, don’t get me wrong. But I love to have played against Jerry West to determine if I was the better guard than him or Oscar Robertson, but we’ll never know,” Jordan added.

Stephen Curry Sat Down With Michael Jordan At The 2024 Ryder Cup To Talk About How Curry Can Over Jordan As “GOAT”

At the illustrious 2024 Ryder Cup, a historic meeting took place between two basketball legends: Stephen Curry and Michael Jordan. However, the topic of conversation wasn’t centered around golf; instead, it revolved around Curry’s aspirations to surpass Jordan as the “Greatest of All Time” (GOAT) in basketball. The rendezvous between Curry and Jordan, both titans of the game in their respective eras, captured the attention of sports enthusiasts worldwide. As they engaged in dialogue, Curry sought insights and wisdom from Jordan, who had long been hailed as the epitome of basketball greatness.

For Curry, the quest to ascend to GOAT status represents a monumental challenge, yet one he embraces with determination and ambition. Armed with unparalleled shooting prowess and an unmatched work ethic, Curry has already etched his name in NBA history books, redefining the game with his revolutionary style of play.

During their conversation, Jordan shared anecdotes from his own storied career, offering invaluable advice and perspective to Curry. From the importance of leadership to the relentless pursuit of excellence, Jordan imparted lessons forged through years of triumphs and tribulations on the hardwood

As Curry absorbed Jordan’s wisdom, he articulated his vision for cementing his legacy as the GOAT. Embracing the ethos of continuous improvement and innovation, Curry expressed his commitment to pushing the boundaries of what’s possible in basketball, just as Jordan had done in his prime.

The meeting between Curry and Jordan symbolized a passing of the torch, as the torchbearer of one generation passed the mantle to the next. Yet, it also underscored the timeless pursuit of greatness that transcends eras and generations, uniting players past and present in a shared pursuit of basketball immortality.

As Curry left the 2024 Ryder Cup, inspired and emboldened by his conversation with Jordan, the basketball world eagerly anticipated the next chapter in his quest to ascend to the pinnacle of the sport. With Jordan’s mentorship guiding him along the way, Curry’s journey towards GOAT status promises to be a captivating saga, one that will be etched in the annals of basketball history for generations to come.

Michael Jordan Once Said He Doesn’t Like Being Called the GOAT — Here’s Why

In the wake of a stirring debate sparked by LeBron James’ recent claim that he’s the greatest player “of all time,” NBA fans have resurfaced a 2009 interview with Michael Jordan in which he rebukes the title.

During a recent sit-down for ESPN’s “More Than an Athlete” series, James was talking about winning the 2016 NBA Finals with the Cleveland Cavaliers when he stated, “That one right there made me the greatest player of all time.”

Many have since debated whether James, 34, or his NBA predecessor, Jordan, are more worthy of the title. And amid the deliberation, Jordan’s commentary on the subject while speaking to ESPN’s Michael Wilbon nearly 10 years ago has been brought back to the forefront, according to CBS.

“I don’t want it in a sense because I think it disrespects Wilt Chamberlain, Jerry West — you know all the guys that prior to me I never had a chance to play against,” the Charlotte Hornets team owner explained at the time of the GOAT title. “What everybody is saying I am, I never had the chance to compete against other legends that was prior to me.”

In fact, Jordan, 55, said that “when I hear it, I cringe a little bit because it’s a little bit embarrassing because no one knows.”

“I never had the chance, once again, to play against those guys,” explained Jordan. “I would love to have played against them but I never did. And for you to say that I’m better than him … I mean it’s your opinion; it’s their opinion. I accept that as their opinion.”

If asked, Jordan doubled down, asserting: “I would never say that I am the greatest player.”

Beyond basketball, James and Jordan are now linked in a much different arena: a Looney Toons one.James will appear in the upcoming Space Jam sequel, which is a continuation of the 1996 film which starred Jordan. While few details of the sequel are available, the original followed Jordan teaming up with the Looney Tunes in a desperate attempt to win a basketball match and earn their freedom.
