Jason Kelce and Travis share their Mother’s Day intentions after their mother criticizes their inadequate gift-giving abilities

It seems like being called out by your own mother is just the kind of motivation one needs to get a great Mother’s Day gift for your mom and wife this year.

Jason and Travis Kelce’s mother Donna Kelce was on the Today Show to show off some of her favorite ideas for Mother’s Day presents, and America’s football mom was asked if her sons are good gift givers when it comes to the holiday.

Mama Kelce had no shame in putting her sons on blast for their crappy gift-giving skills.

“Boys usually are not,” she said. “I’m very rarely in the same place they are on Mother’s Day because it’s their offseason, so they’re off and running and doing their own thing. But that’s OK, I’ve had so many blessings that I don’t even care.”

And what’s worse? The brothers couldn’t deny it.

The former Philadelphia Eagles star lineman and the current Kansas City Chiefs All-Pro tight end reacted to their mom’s appearance on the show on their latest episode of “New Heights,” released May 1, and acknowledged their lack of talent when it comes to choosing Mother’s Day gifts.

“Mom was on the Today show to share some Mother’s Day gift ideas, and she was also asked if the two of us are good at Mother’s Day gifts. Are we gift-givers?” Travis Kelce asked.

“Don’t ask Kylie,” Jason Kelce said, referring to his wife. “I am a bad gift planner and giver.”

It seems the older Kelce sibling is so bad at gift-giving – unlike Kylie apparently – that he’s a month late on an anniversary gift for her as well.

Since the two have been married for six years, it’s traditionally their iron anniversary. With that in mind, Travis Kelce went on to suggest he have a sword made for his wife for either occasion, which led Jason Kelce to search for somewhere he could obtain a custom sword between the time the episode was recorded and when it aired.

“At least she was honest, and she didn’t just keep us like we’re unhuman,” Travis Kelce said about their mother. “You’ve got to be [expletive] at something.”

“I can’t be good at dancing and be good at gift giving. I can only have one of those,” Jason Kelce joked.

“We should just send Mom gifs of us dancing for Mother’s Day,” Travis Kelce suggested.

“For a gift, you’re going to get a gif,” Jason Kelce replied.

“What do you get a woman that has everything?” Travis Kelce wondered out loud.

Jason Kelce said he usually gets Kylie hydrangeas, chocolates, and a card. Meanwhile, his mom usually receives “a heartfelt Mother’s Day text.”

Fortunately, this year will be different for their mother.

“Mom, we’re going to figure it out,” Travis Kelce said. “This year you’re getting it because you called us out, and now if you get too much stuff, it’s your fault. Love you.”

"Michael Jordan was Delighted": Magic Johnson Favoring Bulls Superstar Infuriated Isiah Thomas During 1990 Charity All-Star Game

Back in 1990, Magic Johnson hosted what many would consider, a better version of the All-Star game. The charity basketball event had a plethora of All-Stars in the league playing, with the likes of Isiah Thomas and Michael Jordan being on the roster.

The event which was called Midsummer Night’s Magic was an event, which took place during the off-season, the same time that players engaged in other hobbies and spent time with their families.

Jordan, who was looking to win his first Championship, was already the young face of the league. Johnson remained the most popular, but Jordan wasn’t too far behind. But in true Jordan fashion, MJ would arrive late to the event, the reason being – ‘golf’.

Jordan who is known for his obsession with golf, was sure to finish his game at the course, before driving down to the venue. Well, the logical decision would be to start the game without Jordan, but Magic had different plans. Talking about it in the book When the Game Was Ours, the author recalled,

“Rather than start the event without the star of the league, Johnson had decided to delay it to give Jordan time to be there for tip-off, which reportedly infuriated Isiah Thomas. Jordan was delighted that he had inconvenienced his nemesis.”

It’s understandable as to why Jordan would feel delighted at Isaiah’s misery. Isaiah and the Pistons were back-to-back Champions in ’89 and ’90. They not only stopped the Bulls from making the finals but gave Jordan a good beating while doing so. Being the competitor that Jordan was, he relished in Isaiah’s misery, as MJ had one thing Isiah didn’t, ‘ the love and admiration of the public.’

Isiah Thomas stops the best 1v1 in NBA history

Isiah Thomas hated Jordan, and it was no secret. Thomas always felt like he got cheated out of his popularity and fame by Jodan, as even after winning back-to-back finals MVPs, Jordan stayed the talk of the town. Both Johnson and Jordan topped popularity rankings, even as the Pistons whipped the floor with the Bulls and Lakers.

During the same time, Jordan and Magic were set to play a 1v1 match against each other, something that would be a spectacle for its time. But unfortunately for everyone involved, Isiah would step in and convince the NBA to scrap the idea.

Being the head of the Players Association, Isiah went out of his way to ensure the event never took place, something that infuriated Jordan. Jordan would later comment on Isaiah’s actions in the book Michael Jordan: The Life. Writing about the situation, Ronald Lazenby wrote,

“ Jordan lashed out at Thomas’s intervention, charging that the Detroit guard was jealous because no one would pay to see him play.”

Isiah would prevent Jordan from taking the spotlight, but this action of Isiah wouldn’t go without retaliation. Two years later, Isiah Thomas didn’t make it onto the USA Men’s Olympics team and many believe it was Jordan who had a say in the decision. The honour of playing for his country would be something that Thomas would miss out on, even though he was rightfully deserving of it.

“I Consider Myself at the Bottom”: Disliking Comparison to Marvel Superheroes, Michael Jordan Was Once Humbled by Magic Johnson and Larry Bird

Michael Jordan and the Chicago Bulls had a great time destroying opposition back in the 90s. No one could argue about their sheer dominance on the court. Jordan is considered the greatest ever to play the game. Back in 2013, Ahmad Rashad interviewed the 6-time NBA Champion on the occasion of his 50th birthday.

In the hour-long interview, Ahmad Rashad mentioned the earliest nickname that the Bulls legend had gotten, ‘Captain Marvel’.

    Michael Jordan addressing his nicknames

As it turns out, Michael Jordan wasn’t a big fan of his first nickname. And he even detailed the reasons for his dislike.

Jordan chuckled and replied, “ It just didn’t seem right, Captain sounded like I’m on the top of the league and I considered myself at the bottom you know at that time.”  He further added, “I am walking into arenas playing Larry Bird and Magic Johnson, and you call me ‘Captain Marvel’, puts a big dot on my back”.

Despite being widely regarded as the greatest player ever, Michael Jordan had the humility to acknowledge his position in the totem pole in his early years. He deferred to Larry Bird and Magic Johnson’s dominance when they ruled the NBA world. However, he would later go on to establish his own monopoly in the league for the Chicago Bulls.

The nickname ‘His Airness’ was a direct sign of love, adulation, and respect for the Bulls no. 23. This nickname was derived from the basketball legend’s ability to hang in the air while dunking from the free throw line.

Combined with the royal status that he exuded, by making the Bulls the most formidable team of the 90s. It was a perfect nickname.

The Bulls legend against Larry Bird and Magic Johnson

The Bulls legend stated that was at the bottom of the NBA hierarchy in his early seasons. Also motivating him more to be at par with the legends of the game.

The 1986 NBA Playoffs had the Bulls and Larry Bird’s  Boston Celtics pitted against each other. The Boston Garden saw a game like no other when the home team won 135-131. Despite that, Michael Jordan scored 63 points, which is to this day still a playoff record. Larry Bird famously said, “I think he’s God disguised as Michael Jordan”.

In the 1991 NBA Finals, the Chicago Bulls faced Magic Johnson and the legendary LA Lakers. The Lakers were appearing in their 9th NBA final in 12 years. Nobody could question their status as a team.

Michael Jordan calls it: Magic Johnson is the greatest point guard in NBA history

Michael Jordan's verdict: Magic Johnson ascends as ultimate point...

NBA icon Michael Jordan has entered the arena of debate surrounding the title of the greatest point guard in NBA history, sending shockwaves through the basketball community.

The spark for this spirited discourse was ignited when Stephen Curry confidently declared himself the premier point guard in NBA history during a candid podcast conversation with Gilbert Arenas earlier this week. The ensuing deliberation gained traction as renowned ESPN commentator Stephen A. Smith, after careful consideration, lent his support to Curry’s claim, edging out Magic Johnson. However, a new development emerged during Wednesday morning’s episode of First Take, as Smith unveiled a revelation he received via text from none other than Michael Jordan.

    Thank you for watching

In his illuminating message, Jordan, a paragon of basketball excellence, delved into the heart of the matter. “While the quest to identify the ultimate point guard is perennially debated, I hold a divergent view on the matter,” remarked Jordan. He firmly asserted, “Magic Johnson unequivocally reigns as the preeminent point guard of all time. Although Steph Curry’s prowess is unquestionable and his proximity to greatness undeniable, he falls just shy of surpassing Magic.”

Jordan’s take: Curry’s unrivaled shooting and Johnson’s legacy propel point guard debate

Jordan, acknowledged as an astute observer of the game, went on to underline Curry’s exceptional marksmanship, hailing him as “unequivocally the most exceptional shooter in the history of the sport.” Nonetheless, he emphasized the crux of Johnson’s unmatched legacy. Jordan highlighted Johnson’s revolutionary contribution in pioneering the concept of the triple-double, a feat that has left an indelible mark on the sport. In a compelling juxtaposition, Jordan underscored Johnson’s championship triumphs, boasting five coveted NBA titles, one more than Curry.

Notably, the careers of Magic Johnson and Michael Jordan intersected, culminating in their shared court time as pivotal members of the legendary 1992 “Dream Team” in USA Basketball‘s history. The weight of Jordan’s opinion in this discourse, arguably the most illustrious figure in the realm of sports, reverberates across the sports world. His deliberate reflection on this subject, as evidenced in his message to Smith, resonates as a testament to his deep contemplation on the matter.

In conclusion, the entry of Michael Jordan into the conversation surrounding the greatest point guard of all time adds an exhilarating dimension to the ongoing debate. While Stephen Curry’s audacious claim sent waves through the sports community, Jordan’s perspective has further stoked the flames of discussion, ultimately anointing Magic Johnson with the prestigious title, albeit with Curry as a compelling runner-up. The echoes of Jordan’s words are destined to resonate as the basketball world grapples with this captivating conundrum.

‘I didn’t get a chance to hate Michael Jordan…’: Magic Johnson’s big revelation

In a recent episode of “The Dan Patrick Show”, Johnson went down the memory lane and reminisced how he became friends with Jordan during their play with the Dream Team.

Basketball fans can never forget the gold-medal winning, legendary ‘Dream Team’ of the 1992 Olympic games that featured both Michael Jordan and Magic Johnson. Considered by experts as the greatest sports team ever assembled, it was the first time that NBA players competed for USA in Olympics. The champion team recorded an average margin of victory of more than 40 points in the Olympics that year.

In a recent episode of “The Dan Patrick Show”, Johnson went down the memory lane and reminisced how he became friends with Jordan during their play with the team. Johnson also contrasted it by his equation with the legendary Larry Bird about whom he admitted that they hated each other.

“I didn’t get a chance to hate Michael because we played one time (in the NBA Finals). I think because of the relationship with Larry happened in college then it carried over to the two most storied franchises in NBA history. We played so many times, that’s why we hated each other.” said Johnson.

“Michael, I think the dislike, might have come more the Bulls and Celtics. … I didn’t have the chance to hate Michael, but we’re good friends. I love MJ and what he stands for, for what he’s built, not only on the court, but off the court. His business, so it’s great,” added Johnson.

Jordan’s team Chicago Bulls had defeated Johnson’s team LA Lakers in the NBA Finals in 1991 to lift their first title. MJ was adjudged the Most Valuable Player in the finals.

MJ once talked about his initial rivalry and sour equation with Johnson and said “Well, I understood it to be jealousy. And you know, I think a lot of it came from, ‘Magic Johnson should have been Michael Jordan before Michael Jordan.’ He had the smile, he had everything. He had the marketability, he had championships.”
