The head coach spoke about Kelce during the NFL owner’s meeting in Florida

In the wake of Jason Kelce’s retirement from the NFL, Andy Reid, the head coach of the Kansas City Chiefs, took a moment to reflect on the profound impact Kelce had on the Philadelphia Eagles’ locker room.

“Not only was he a great player, but he also had the leadership. He did it on the field, he also did it off the field, which was important. All those guys keeping everybody in line is a big thing. I’m sure they have other guys who can work in there. “Reid remarked.

He emphasized Kelce’s influential presence, highlighting the challenge of finding someone to step into his shoes.

Reid, who drafted Kelce in 2011 during his tenure with the Eagles, recognized the significance of Kelce’s contributions from the moment he joined the team. “He kinda took over things right away,”Reid recalled, emphasizing Kelce’s natural ability to lead.

Reflecting on his relationship with the Kelce family, Reid expressed pride in both Jason and his younger brother Travis, whom he drafted in 2013 while coaching the Chiefs.

“That family, I’ve become close with it,”Reid remarked fondly. “Tremendous players, and Jason is a great leader – emotional player, brings that to the table, and has done so for a long time.”

Chiefs expected to announce Reid contract extension soon

In other developments, Reid and the Chiefs are expected to begin negotiations on a new contract, with Reid poised to become one of the highest-paid coaches in football history.

Despite perpetual speculation about retirement, Reid has shown no signs of slowing down, reaffirming his commitment to leading the Chiefs in pursuit of a three-peat.

The team’s general manager, Brett Veach, is also due for a new contract deal.

Veach and Reid signed extensions after the Chiefs’ win in Super Bowl LIV.

Since then, Kansas City has won two more back-to-back championships and are the first team to run it back since the 2003-04 New England Patriots.

Reid is believed to be the third highest-earning coach in the AFC West after Sean Payton and Jim Harbaugh.

Jason discussed his retirement in the latest ‘New Heights’ podcast with brother Travis.

During the episode, the Super LII winner revealed his one biggest regret about retiring right now.

“The one thing I’m disappointed about retiring right now is I’m retiring when the Eagles had potentially the biggest collapse in the history of the organisation.

“Not potentially, probably the most.

“The reason why I say I’m upset about that is I really truly think the Eagles are gonna’ ball out next year.

“I think all of those guys there’s still a tremendous amount of talent right there, they’re hired two really good coaches.

Jason and the Eagles made the Super Bowl the year before last where they narrowly lost to Travis and the Chiefs, 38-35.

Many expected them to pick up where they left off, and they did, starting this past season 10-1.

However, their form fell off a cliff during the end of the regular season and they lost five of their last six games.

The worst of those loses game at the hands of the lowly New York Giants in the regular season finale which they lost, 27-10.

They followed that up with a 32-9 loss to the Bucs in the wild-card round, which turned out to be Jason’s last ever game with the franchise.

Although his playing days are over, Jason said he will continue to support the Eagles.

However, he’ll also be rooting for three other teams too.

“I’m Eagles first and foremost,” he said on the 6 March episode of ‘New Heights’.

The Cleveland, Ohio, native added: “We are still Cleveland sports fans, I still cheer the Browns on, and I did my entire career.

“I’m always rooting for the Browns.

“It’s Eagles, then until you [Travis] retire it’s Chiefs – the moment you retire it’s probably Browns then Chiefs.

“Those are the top three, and then the Bills.”

“They [Bills] just lured me in, they were so nice,” he added, reflecting on his shirtless antics in Buffalo during their recent playoff game against Kansas City.

“They’re an easy fourth at this point.”

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. (WHTM) – At the NFL Annual League Meeting on Tuesday Philadelphia Eagles chairman and CEO Jeffrey Lurie commented on how Jason Kelce will remain a part of the Eagles culture.

“What happens with us, and I think you’ll see it with both Jason and Fletch. . . is they’re a part of the organization (after retirement),” said Lurie. “I don’t expect any of them to not be a part of what we’re doing as the decades go by.”

Lurie says that the long-term relationship built with players in Philadelphia is part of what makes the team special.

“These are guys that you’re going to see around us forever, at least as long as I’m around and I think it goes long after that,” Lurie said. “It’s part of why I love our team so much.”

As far as celebrations for Kelce and Fletcher Cox, Lurie says there will definitely be something, but the details haven’t been solidified yet.

“They deserve it,” Lurie said. “There’s going to be, I’m sure, lots of celebrations.”

Jason Kelce is a big supporter of brother Travis Kelce’s love story with Taylor Swift — but admits the public interest in the new couple is “a lot.”

“It’s certainly been weird, the level that it is now,” he told NBC Sports on Sunday night. “On one hand, I’m happy for my brother that he seems to be in a relationship that he’s excited about, that he is genuine about. But there’s another end of it where it’s like, ‘Man, this is a lot.’”

The Philadelphia Eagles center, 35, continued, “There’s paparazzi talking about him fueling his car before the game today and I’m like, ‘Is that really necessary information to share?’”

“This is another level of stardom that typically football players don’t deal with,” he added.

As long as Travis, 34, is safe, however, Jason is “happy” for his little brother amid his budding romance with the pop star, 33.

“And so on one hand, really, really happy for my brother and where he’s at in his current situation with Taylor but on the other hand, there’s some, I think, alarms sometimes with how you know, over-in-pursuit people can be,” he told NBC Sports.

“Overall, he can deal with some of this,” he added. “As long as it’s not, you know, becoming a threat to his safety and things like that.”

On Monday, Jason mentioned Swift again, this time on the Today show. The center appeared on the show with fellow Eagles linemen Lane Johnson and Jordan Mailata to talk about their second Christmas album, a now-annual charity project.

While discussing the record, which features a Patti LaBelle duet, Kelce shared that he would not be opposed to a Swift appearance on the holiday album next year.

“Maybe, not this one, not this time around,” Jason, 35, said after Today co-host Sheinelle Jones asked about the possibility of a holiday collaboration with the Midnights songstress.

“That would be pretty incredible,” he added. “Maybe in the future.”

On Sunday, Travis and the Kansas City Chiefs won their fourth game with the “Love Story” singer in attendance, prompting head coach Andy Reid to praise the pop star’s seemingly positive influence.

“Kelce is getting better with time,” Reid said during a press conference shared on social media, adding: “Taylor can stay around all she wants.”

Reid’s comments after the Los Angeles Chargers defeat marked the second time he has mentioned Swift amid her new relationship with his star tight end. A week earlier, Reid, who used to coach the Eagles — both Jason’s team and Swift’s hometown team — talked about knowing the pop star’s dad.

“I knew her from Philadelphia; her dad was a big NFL fan, so I had met her when she was real young, and her dad,” he explained before jokingly taking credit for orchestrating the internet’s favorite new romance.

“I joked about setting Kelce up, and, you know, I’m just saying!” the Chiefs head coach said.

He added, “She’s a good girl, she’s into it, we’re glad she’s here.”
