In the upcoming ESPN “Monday Night Football” revamp, Jason Kelce may take RG3’s place

With several networks in hot pursuit of Jason Kelce for a television role, ESPN appears to have a specific idea in mind for the recently retired Eagles center, and it could come with a casualty.

Yet another “Monday Night Football” makeover is in the works and Robert Griffin III’s role on the pregame show “is in jeopardy,” The Athletic’s Andrew Marchand reports.

Amazon, CBS and NBC are also interested in Kelce, 36, as ESPN “aggressively” pursues the seven-time Pro Bowler, per the report.

In the wake of last summer’s mass layoffs that saw former host Suzy Kolber get let go, Scott Van Pelt became the new host of “Monday Night Countdown.”

The desk also included RG3, Marcus Spears and Ryan Clark, who re-signed with ESPN last month after a contract impasse.

Spears and Clark are expected to return, according to the report, and features reporter Michelle Beisner-Buck, the wife of play-by-play guy Joe Buck, is also staying on the show.

Larry Fitzgerald, who had a part-time role on the show, is currently not under contract and his future on the program is uncertain, the report said.

Kelce — who hosts the popular “New Heights” podcast with his brother, Chiefs star Travis Kelce — appears as if he’ll be the first domino to fall as the networks consider changes to their NFL personnel for 2024.

Bill Belichick is lingering as a wild card, though he reportedly is not interested in a traditional studio role.

Peyton Manning is trying to sign Belichick for a role with his Omaha Productions company, which partners with ESPN, The Athletic previously reported.

RG3, the former Heisman Trophy-winning quarterback who last played for the Ravens in 2020, recently caused a stir by saying in a social media video that USC quarterback Caleb Williams, the likely top pick in the 2024 NFL Draft, should “pull an Eli Manning” and refuse to play for the Bears, who hold the No. 1 pick.

“After everything that’s happened with just Justin Fields, can Caleb Williams really look at that and say, ‘You know what? This is the organization that has my best interest at heart and they are going to help develop me into the player that I want to become,’” Griffin said.

Kelce retired earlier this month after 13 NFL seasons, all with the Eagles.

It’s a Kelce world and we’re all just living in it.

The NFL siblings are just about the most popular duo in sports having dominated on and off the field with their larger than life personalities and Hall of Fame-worthy careers.

Former Eagles star Jason recently announced his retirement from the NFL after 13 glorious years, begging the question ‘what comes next?’

According to The Athletic, Kelce’s next job could involve a deal with one of the major television networks – and it may even include Travis and their immensely popular ‘New Heights’ podcast.

Per the report, NBC, CBS and ESPN are all interested in acquiring Jason’s talents for a major television role, with ESPN in particular zeroing in on the ex offensive lineman.

Interestingly, Amazon Prime Video are also a contender to land the elder Kelce’s services, with one potential deal on the table involving Travis and their podcast.

“Amazon Prime Video could only offer a contributor spot on ‘Thursday Night Football,’” it’s claimed.

“But, if the Kelces brought their podcast under the Amazon umbrella, it could be part of a bigger deal.”

It is stated that Kelce already has a relationship with Amazon after his hit documentary, ‘Kelce’, with wife Kylie, landed on the platform last year.

The potential for a streaming giant to sweeten any future TV deal with Jason by paying a huge chunk of money for the exclusive rights to his podcast is certainly an interesting proposition.

However, Jason and Travis are yet to suggest they plan on taking their podcast anywhere anytime soon, with pretty much anything still a possibility.

The Kelces launched their award-winning podcast in September 2022, just months before they met in Super Bowl LVII – dubbed the ‘Kelce Bowl’ – where Travis’ Chiefs beat Jason’s Eagles, 38-35.

Wholesome footage of Jason and Travis Kelce playing football as kids emerges following Jason’s retirement from the NFL

The pod covers a range of topics, mostly from the NFL, as well as pop culture and the brothers’ own personal lives.

They’ve also had a ton of special guests on including Kansas City quarterback Patrick Mahomes and, more recently, new Eagles running back Saquon Barkley.

‘New Heights’ has steadily risen in popularity and in January the brothers announced the show had accumulated more than 2 million YouTube subscribers, a total that has since climbed to more than 2.4 million.

The show’s success was recognised at the recent iHeartMedia’s 2024 iHeartPodcast Awards where ‘New Heights’ took home the prize of podcast of the year.

“Listen, this is an incredible honor, especially for two jabronis like us, to receive an award like this is beyond humbling and we would be remiss if we didn’t immediately thank all of the 92 percenters [their fanbase] out there — aka Swifties — who voted for us to win this award,” Jason said.

“Thank you guys for everything. We truly do have the best fanbase in the entire world,” Travis said.

They followed that award up by winning the Best Sports Podcast award from The Podcast Academy.

There’s no denying Jason is massively in-demand now that he’s officially hung up his Eagles jersey.

The 36-year-old certainly isn’t short of options for his next career move, with one legend from another sport even willing to train him into its next ‘superstar’.

Jason Kelce insists there is no chance he will return to the NFL next season, after new Philadelphia Eagles recruit Saquon Barkley tried to coax him out of retirement.

Appearing on the Kelce brothers’ New Heights podcast, Barkley talked up his switch from the New York Giants to Philly, before Jason insisted that Jalen Hurts and the rest of the team are going to be ‘rejuvenated’ for another run at the Super Bowl.

After claiming it will be an ‘outstanding environment’ in the building next year, Kelce made the mistake of claiming it will be ‘so fun to watch’ – leading to Barkley jumping in to claim: ‘You don’t got to watch it, you know…’

Amid Travis and Saquon’s laughter, Jason replies quickly: ‘I’ll give you one piece of advice… before you ask me to come back, I’m not going to come back, I’m not doing it, nothing to add.’

Jason then imparted his piece of advice, which surrounded the brutal ‘tush push’ made famous by the Eagles: ‘Do not go down at the one-yard line!’

Travis continued the conversation, joking: ‘They didn’t ban it, they didn’t ban it!’, referencing the NFL’s decision to allow Philadelphia to continue using their innovative one-yard line push for the endzone.

There has been plenty of speculation over what is next for Jason Kelce, just weeks after his emotional 40-minute retirement speech at the Eagles HQ.

Television appears to be the most likely route for him, with The Athletic reporting that ESPN are ‘aggressively trying to recruit him for their Monday Night Football program’.

Kelce’s stock has risen exponentially over the last year – in part due to his brother’s high-profile romance with Taylor Swift – and their New Heights podcast was the most listened to show of any in the world.

Next month, the popular duo take their usually-pre-recorded show to the stage, performing live in Cincinnati at their alma mater.

In the past few weeks, tickets have been flying off the shelves with students and fans desperate for a spot in the stadium to watch the madness unfold.

Unfortunately for the Swifties, it appears Taylor will be unable to attend the show, as she begins the European leg of her sold-out Eras Tour.

  • Justin Thomas appears on ‘The Late Show’ and tells an epic Michael Jordan money-game story

Justin Thomas appears on ‘The Late Show’ and tells an epic Michael Jordan money-game story

If you had Justin Thomas following retired Supreme Court Justice Stephen Breyer as a guest on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert on Monday night on your Bingo card, you win by default.

But such was the case as the two-time winner of the PGA Championship appeared on the late-night talk show from New York City (he also hit up the Knicks game at Madison Square Garden with his wife and enjoyed floor seats) and told one heckuva story about that time he played a money match at age 15 with NBA great Michael Jordan.

    “MJ used to,” Thomas began.

    “Oh, MJ,” Colbert interjected.

“I feel like there’s a handful of people in the world that you can call them by their nickname and everyone knows who that is and I’m putting MJ in that category,” Thomas said.

    “Sure, Michael Jackson,” Colbert deadpanned.

    “Yeah, good point,” Thomas said.

On to the story in which Thomas began recalling how Jordan would always come to the Kentucky Derby and want to play golf. Jordan would ring up former NBA pro Junior Bridgeman to set up a game at the course where Thomas’s father, Mike, was the head professional, near Louisville.

The first couple of years Thomas served as a caddie in the group, but in the third year Jordan told Thomas, who he called Little Man, to go get his clubs so he could play the last seven holes as his partner.

“He knew I played golf but he didn’t know that I was decent and nobody else definitely had any idea,” Thomas said.

Colbert asked if he put any pressure on him. “No, I just felt pressure playing with Michael Jordan. He was like, ‘Alright, I’ve got him.’ ”

How did Thomas do, Colbert wondered?

“I made four birdies in seven holes and helped pay for my first car,” Thomas said.

That led to Colbert questioning about the stakes.

“I didn’t know the amount,” Thomas said. “He said to everybody don’t tell him what we’re playing for because he might … ”

    “Freak out,” Colbert interjected.

“Sure, something like that,” Thomas said. “I won 3-4 grand. The assistant at the time was helping get stuff together and everyone came in from 36 holes and my dad’s like giving me a hard time. ‘You need to tip him.’ I’m like, ‘Tip who?’ He said, ‘Matt, the assistant.’ ”

All Thomas had was $100 bills from winning his match so he gave him one.

“My dad was like, ‘I can’t believe you just tipped him $100.’ That’s all I had,” Thomas said.

    JT, what a legend.

The LA Lakers’ recent win over the Milwaukee Bucks has done a lot of good for the franchise before the playoffs arrive. Not only did the win pump confidence into the team, but it has also kickstarted several conversations around the team’s postseason hopes. Recently, Paul Pierce went out on a limb to say that if the Lakers manage to bounce back from here on and end up winning the Championship, LeBron James would become the undisputed GOAT for him.

The NBA veteran said earlier today on FS1’s UNDISPUTED, that no other team has managed to bounce back from the ninth seed, and if somehow the Lakers manage to pull it off, LeBron would take the leading spot from Michael Jordan in the GOAT conversation.

Mandatory Credit: Jayne Kamin-Oncea-USA TODAY Sports

He said, “If the Lakers get to the finals and they happen to win a championship this year, LeBron James would be the undisputed GOAT.” Interestingly, Pierce was saying all this to Skip Bayless’s face, who is notorious for his ‘hot’ takes regarding LBJ.

Earlier this month, Bayless declared that he doesn’t value LeBron’s 40k-point record across 21 seasons as much as others do. The 72-year-old added, “Before 40k points, I had LeBron 9th on my all-time list. After 40k points, I still have LeBron 9th on my all-time list. Because playing longer does not make you better or more valuable.”

It’s quite obvious that he wouldn’t agree with Pierce on LeBron being the undisputed GOAT even if he lives up to the condition. But if we look into it, Pierce’s claim sounds like something that has little to no chance of happening.

Can Paul Pierce’s wish become a reality?

Although sports works on the ‘nothing is impossible’ philosophy, often stats and records work as an eye opener. So, while Pierce is comfortably praying for a comeback like no other, the record books suggest that we haven’t actually seen anything like it before. The lowest seed to ever clinch the NBA title is the 1994-95 Houston Rockets, who bounced back from being the sixth seed and ended up as champions.

Based on that alone, Pierce’s dreams might get shattered. As we analyze further, the lowest seed to reach the NBA Finals spot is tied between two teams, the 1999 Knicks and the 2023 Heat. Both the teams were eighth seed and then climbed their way up to the finals. Since, the lowest seed record belongs to the Rockets, the Lakers as ninth seed going up to win the title seems like a pipe dream.

Michael Jordan names a ‘dream team’ from his era: “The point guard is Magic Johnson, without a doubt”

The 1980s and 1990s were a golden age in NBA history, an era marked by the rise of legendary players such as Michael Jordan. Known for his unparalleled court skills, MJ led the Chicago Bulls to six NBA championships and solidified his place as one of the greatest basketball players in history.

In a 2006 interview with Slam Magazine, Jordan reminisced about his time in the league and shared some fascinating insights about his career. One of the most interesting tidbits he revealed was his “dream team” from his era, a selection of players he would choose to play with if given the chance. As expected, Mike’s dream team included some of the biggest names in basketball at that time.

    Didn’t hesitate to name Magic

He named Magic Johnson, widely considered one of the best point guards in league history, his top pick for that position without hesitation. The two have a colorful history and a deep friendship. Intense competitors on the floor yet thick as thieves off it, Jordan even captured his first NBA title at Magic’s expense in 1991.

“Oooh—in our era? That’s tough. Magic Johnson is, without a doubt, the point guard,” Jordan shared.

However, MJ had trouble deciding who to play small forward. After all, one can’t talk about all-time greats in the 1980s and early 90s without mentioning the standout from French Lick, Indiana, and Boston Celtics legend Larry Bird. A three-time NBA champion, three-time MVP, 12-time All-Star, and 10-time All-NBA team member, Bird was the pre-eminent small forward of his time.

At the same time, Jordan had to credit another player who had a major impact on his career – Scottie Pippen. Although the Arkansas native was largely overshadowed by His Airness for most of his career, Pippen was undoubtedly one of the best small forwards ever. Pippen was essential to the Chicago Bulls’ six championship titles with incredible athleticism, defensive prowess, and unselfish playmaking skills.

Jordan shared, “I would have a tough time at the small forward position, because that’s taking Scottie Pippen and Larry Bird and splitting them.”

    Who will play power forward?

As close as Jordan and Barkley once were, the former couldn’t bring himself to name the “Chuckster” at the power forward position primarily because the latter was indifferent to playing defense.

He also had Celtics great Kevin McHale and Utah Jazz ace Karl Malone to choose from. However, Jordan’s Tar Heels roots run deep, leading him to select Los Angeles Lakers star James Worthy.

“At the four, you’re talking Kevin McHale, you’re talking Karl Malone and then you’re talking about James Worthy. I’m a take James because I’m a Carolina guy,” Jordan remarked.

    Man in the middle

Jordan went with Hakeem Olajuwon for his center. His Airness said this decision was a no-brainer given the versatility “The Dream” possessed. Whether dominating the low post with his array of moves, stepping out to hit a mid-range jumper, or defending the rim ferociously, Olajuwon could do it all.

“At center, I’d go with Olajuwon, that’s without a doubt. I mean, I never saw Jabbar in his prime, and Patrick (Ewing), and I love Patrick, but I would have to say the versatility of where the game was going, Olajuwon was by far the best at the center position.”

It’s hard to argue with Jordan’s choices for his era’s “Dream Team.” It’s even harder to foresee any other team defeating this legendary quintet. After all, with MJ in the mix, it’s nearly impossible to imagine a team that could beat them.

Why Mіchael Jordаn’s title-clinching ѕhot іn 1998 wаs hаrder thаn іt looked: “I hаve а tendenсy to сome uр ѕhort”

Fortunаtely for Jordаn аnd the Bullѕ, the Jаzz gаve “Hіs Aіrness” enough аirspаce to tаke the gаme-winner.

Lіttle dіd the Jаzz know thаt MJ hаd no іntentіon of lettіng аnother teаmmаte tаke the glory іn the tіtle remаtch. Stoсkton аnd Kаrl Mаlone trіed to рack the рaint when he ѕtarted аttаcking off the drіbble, but they рrobably dіdn’t exрect Jordаn to ѕtep bаck аfter а ѕlight рush on Ruѕѕell.

Whаt іf Jordаn mіssed the gаme-winner?

Stіll, іt would hаve been іnterestіng to wаtch whаt would hаve hаppened іf “Hіs Aіrness” сlanked the jumрer.

It lіkely would hаve led to Utаh hаnging on for the wіn аnd the ѕerieѕ gettіng extended to а ѕeventh meetіng, whіch would hаve been unсhartered terrіtory for Jordаn. Whіle he hаd рlayed іn three Gаme 7ѕ іn hіs сareer, wіnnіng two of them аnd аverаging 33.7 рoints, 7.7 reboundѕ, аnd 7.0 аssists рer сontest, he never hаd to go thаt fаr іn hіs ѕix Fіnals аppeаrаnces.

If the 1998 ѕerieѕ went the dіstance, the Jаzz сould hаve hаd the oррortunity to wіn the frаnchise’s fіrst сhampionship аt home. But let’ѕ not kіd ourѕelveѕ. Jordаn lіkely would hаve ѕtill found wаys to leаd the Bullѕ to the tіtle аnd аdded аnother сhapter to hіs legаcy.
