LeBron James and his wife heartbroken as their 1st-date location in Akron closes down

    Mark J. Rebilas-USA TODAY Sports

Former Cleveland Cavaliers superstar LeBron James and his wife Savannah reacted on social media after learning that the location of their first date — an Outback Steakhouse in Akron, Ohio — has closed down.

Some time ago, Savannah James recalled the first date during an interview and shared a special moment that came from it.

“I knew he loved me when I left my leftovers from dinner in his car,” she told Harper’s Bazaar years ago.

    She continued.

“I’d totally forgotten about them, and he brought them to me,” she said. “I think he just wanted another excuse to come and see me.”

The couple met in high school and got married in 2013. The relationship between the two has served as an inspiration for many over the years.

It’s an exciting era for the James family, especially with Bronny James — the eldest child in the family — trying to reach the NBA. Bronny James is currently playing at the University of Southern California and could be selected in the 2024 NBA Draft.

Meanwhile, LeBron James is in the midst of his 21st NBA season, and he’s still one of the league’s elite players. The future Hall of Famer is averaging 25.3 points, 7.1 rebounds and 7.9 assists per game this season while shooting 52.5 percent from the field and 40.8 percent from beyond the arc.

His Los Angeles Lakers are 33-28 and currently hold the No. 9 spot in the Western Conference. Earlier this season, they won the NBA Cup by emerging victorious in the league’s In-Season Tournament.

The future of the Lakers superstar is in question, as he could become a free agent this offseason. He has a player option on his deal for the 2024-25 season that he could decline.

There has been some speculation about the possibility of LeBron James returning to Cleveland before his career ends, but it’s unclear if that’s a realistic scenario. Earlier in his career, the 20-time All-Star helped the Cavs win their first NBA title, as the organization stunned the Golden State Warriors in the 2016 NBA Finals.

It may be a sad time in the James household amid the closing of Akron’s Outback Steakhouse, but LeBron and Savannah James will certainly be able to hold on to the memories of their first date forever.

  • Revealing how many statues will LeBron James have after his NBA career is done?

Revealing how many statues will LeBron James have after his NBA career is done?

LeBron James is inarguably one of the greatest players in basketball history and whenever his career is over, he will get honored like no other.

But inspired by a recent question posed by our friends at USA TODAY Sports, we recently wondered how many statues James will have around the league when it is all said and done.

James has won championships with the Cleveland Cavaliers, Miami Heat, and Los Angeles Lakers. He won NBA Finals MVP while playing for each team as well. Is that enough, however, for each organization to eventually put up a statue to tribute his accomplishments?

Should LeBron James have a statue in Cleveland, Miami and LA? pic.twitter.com/PE17FJJ4VR

    — USA TODAY Sports (@usatodaysports) March 2, 2024

James will definitely have a statue in Cleveland, the city where is from and where he brought the first and only NBA championship in 2016. It was the only professional title the city had won since 1964.

But will James also get immortalized in Miami and Los Angeles? That is a much harder question to answer.

Miami is the only city where James won multiple championships. But he also did not play for the team for very long, spending just four of his seasons with the Heat.

No one in franchise history has a statue for the Heat, though Dwyane Wade will soon become the first. ESPN’s Stephen A. Smith believes that James did enough to warrant a statue in Miami.

We can expect Wade will have the solo honor of immortalization in South Beach for a bit before the team considers the same treatment for his former teammate.

Perhaps a tougher task for James is earning a statue in Los Angeles.

There are currently six former players (Shaquille O’Neal, Magic Johnson, Jerry West, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Elgin Baylor, and Kobe Bryant) who have statues for the Lakers.

James didn’t spend nearly as much time with the team as any of the players listed above, but he did break the NBA’s all-time scoring record previously held by Kareem Abdul-Jabbar while wearing a Lakers jersey.

Should he win another title with Los Angeles, perhaps the possibility will become more realistic. Otherwise, though, it seems most likely that James has just one statue outside an NBA arena once his career is over.

  • LeBron James’ next deal, and every contract option with the Lakers or another team

LeBron James’ next deal, and every contract option with the Lakers or another team

As far as basketball settings go, it was hard to top the buzz Saturday night inside Crypto.com Arena.

LeBron James, on the brink of becoming the first player in NBA history to reach the 40,000-point plateau, arrived hours before his Los Angeles Lakers tipped off at home against the Denver Nuggets.

Entertainment industry impresarios such as Jeffrey Katzenberg, Peter Berg, Byron Allen and Lemuel Plummer filed in through the VIP entrance. Stars from film and sports — Kate Hudson and Dyan Cannon, Novak Djokovic and Magic Johnson — dotted the stands.

Even James himself was flanked by a documentary crew banking footage for his upcoming Netflix series.

During a break in the action midway through the second quarter — LeBron had scored the ninth point he needed to make history a few minutes earlier — James winked in the direction of Lakers governor Jeanie Buss, located in her second-row seat across from the home bench. It was a custom the two shared during his first couple seasons in L.A. that James dusted off for the historic night.

And, after the game, the Lakers commemorated the moment on their theater-style marquee in the player tunnel: 1st NBA Player Ever. Congrats LeBron James. 40,000 Points Scored.

James, who has privately questioned whether Laker Nation would ever fully embrace him after seeing him battle their beloved Kobe Bryant for so long, acknowledged the way the fans and the franchise showed up for him.

“Much respect and much loyalty to the Laker fan base for showing me that love,” James said. “Being the first player to do something, that’s pretty cool in this league.”

The Lakers and James can pair on another first this offseason. Should he agree to a new, multiyear contract, L.A. will be guaranteed to be the first and only team that James will have played eight consecutive seasons with, eclipsing the seven-year start to his career with the Cleveland Cavaliers.

As rocky as James’ relationship with the Lakers has appeared at times, it’s hard to imagine any other franchise providing the elements that aligned Saturday night in L.A.

But James, nearing 40 years old and in his 21st season, has options as he approaches free agency for the fifth — and perhaps final — time in his career.

    The next contract

James has made more than $482 million in salary in his career and will become the first player in NBA history to pass the $500 million mark next season, by either opting in to his $51.4 million salary, signing a new contract with the Lakers or, in a less likely scenario, signing with another team.

James said Feb. 3 that he has not yet made a decision on his player option. He has until June 29 to decide to opt in or become a free agent.

Because of the over-38 rule, no team, including the Lakers, can offer James a contract for more than three seasons if he elects to become a free agent. That restriction should not matter; of the past six contracts James has signed, five have been for three years or less.

Those short-term deals have limited the total value of James’ recent contracts, meaning a new three-year maximum deal — either for $162 million with the Lakers or for $157 million with another team — would represent the largest total contract in James’ career, eclipsing the $154 million, four-year deal he signed with the Lakers in 2018.

James could follow the path from prior years and sign an even shorter deal with the Lakers. A two-year, $104 million contract with a player option on the second season would allow James to hit free agency again next summer — perhaps when his son, USC freshman guard Bronny James, enters the 2025 NBA draft.

“It’s up to him, it’s up to the kid,” James told Turner Sports on Feb. 18, referring to Bronny declaring for the 2024 NBA draft. “We’re going to go through the whole process. He’s still in-season now. He has the Pac-12 tournament coming up. … We’re going to weigh all options and we’re going to let the kid make the decision.”

The early entry deadline to declare for the 2024 draft is April 27 at 11:59 p.m. ET. If Bronny did declare, he would have until May 31 at 11:59 p.m. ET. to withdraw his name. He did not appear in ESPN’s latest 2024 mock draft and is projected to go 39th in ESPN draft expert Jonathan Givony’s 2025 mock draft.

“I don’t value a young player getting into the lottery as much as I do getting him on the right team in the right developmental situation,” Klutch Sports CEO Rich Paul told ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski on Saturday, regarding Bronny’s status for the upcoming draft.

The Lakers can also offer something no team can — a true no-trade clause. Players are only eligible to negotiate a no-trade clause if they’ve been in the league for at least eight years and have played four years for the team offering the contract. No-trade clauses can’t be added to extensions, which is why James wasn’t eligible to add one when he signed his latest extension in 2022. (Phoenix Suns guard Bradley Beal is the only NBA player who currently has a no-trade clause.)

If James opts in to his contract, he would be eligible to sign a two-year, $112 million extension with the Lakers starting Aug. 18. It would be his third time extending with Los Angeles since he initially signed in 2018.

    The offseason in L.A.

Lakers general manager Rob Pelinka elected not to make changes to the roster before the trade deadline.

“You can’t buy a house that’s not for sale,” Pelinka said Feb. 8. “We spend a lot of time looking for ways to use assets to make our team better. But the right move wasn’t there.”

The 2024 offseason will present another opportunity for Pelinka and the Lakers to reshape their roster around James and Anthony Davis.

The Lakers’ tradable first-round picks will increase from one (2029) to three (2024 or 2025, 2029 and 2031) starting the night of the draft, giving them more options if an All-Star such as Atlanta Hawks guard Trae Young or Cavaliers guard Donovan Mitchell becomes available. Los Angeles also has tradable contracts, with 10 players earning a salary between $1.9 and $19 million.

“In terms of what was available at the trade deadline, we had one first-round draft pick,” Pelinka said. “It was our only sort of hook to fish with. And this summer in June, we, at the time of the draft, we’ll have three first-round draft picks to look for deals.”

Paul also told ESPN’s Wojnarowski that Bronny’s draft position isn’t as important to him as the fit he would find through the draft process, which should free Pelinka to use all of the first-round picks in potential trades without feeling the need to preserve one to select the USC combo guard in order to satisfy his father.

Paul said that James would be “head-over-heels excited” if his son ended up on the Lakers “organically,” but that messaging didn’t read as a mandate by any stretch.

The Lakers will have their own first-round pick if the New Orleans Pelicans elect to defer until 2025. The Pelicans have until June 1 to keep or defer, and a decision will likely not happen until after the draft combine in mid-May.

If the Pelicans keep the pick, the Lakers would be allowed to trade their 2025 first-rounder starting on the first night of the draft.

Swinging for a big deal at the expense of draft capital is nothing new when James is under contract. Cleveland, Miami and Los Angeles have traded away 23 total future first-round picks during his tenures with those teams.

One difficulty with the plan to find another superstar is the new collective bargaining agreement, which restricts how much high-spending teams can add to their rosters.

Starting April 15, the Lakers as currently constructed are not allowed to take back more money than they send out in a trade. They are also walking a financial tightrope just below the salary cap’s second apron, which they must avoid to aggregate contracts in any trades. L.A. is at the $180.9 million first apron, $8.7 million below the $189.6 million second apron and projected to be a repeater tax team for the fourth consecutive season.

While Pelinka has highlighted the Lakers’ three first-round picks available to trade in late June (they also have five years of first-round pick swaps to offer), they are still not flush with draft equity compared to the eight teams — Oklahoma City Thunder, New York Knicks, Brooklyn Nets, San Antonio Spurs, Orlando Magic, Philadelphia 76ers, Toronto Raptors and Utah Jazz — that each have at least five first-rounders to trade.

    James’ options outside the Lakers

During All-Star Sunday in Indianapolis, James dismissed the notion that he is unhappy in Los Angeles, despite a second straight season competing for a spot in the Western Conference play-in tournament.

“I am a Laker and I’m happy and been very happy being a Laker the last six years and hopefully it stays that way,” James said. “But I don’t have the answer to how long it is or which uniform I’ll be in. Hopefully [it] is with the Lakers. It’s a great organization, with so many greats. But we’ll see.”

But what happens if the Lakers fail to reach the first round for the second time in three seasons or do not get past the first round? Los Angeles is 34-29, 2.5 games behind the sixth-place Phoenix Suns.

The only playoff teams flush with cap space are Philadelphia, Oklahoma City and Orlando, but that would require James relocating to a new city and a different roster for the sole purpose of chasing his fifth championship.

As ESPN’s Wojnarowski and Ramona Shelburne reported, Warriors owner Joe Lacob reached out to Buss before the deadline to express interest in acquiring James in a trade. The talks went nowhere because of James’ desire to remain with the Lakers.

Revisiting such a deal would be complicated for Golden State and general manager Mike Dunleavy Jr.

The Warriors have $174 million in salary next season, including $37 million in the non-guaranteed salaries of guard Chris Paul and center Kevon Looney. That figure does not include guard Klay Thompson, who will become a free agent this summer after making $43.2 million in 2023-24.

A sign-and-trade involving James and Thompson would hard cap Golden State at the $178.9 million first apron, making it difficult for L.A. to re-sign Thompson. James could opt-in to his contract and then work out a trade, but Golden State would not be allowed to send out aggregate contracts if James’ $51.4 million salary pushed the Warriors over the second apron.

The Knicks, however, have the financial flexibility below both aprons to trade for James without losing Jalen Brunson and OG Anunoby.

New York has five players (Julius Randle, Josh Hart, Mitchell Robinson, Bojan Bogdanovic and Donte DiVincenzo) earning a salary between $11.5 and $30.3 million. They also have up to eight tradable first-rounders to include in a deal.

“During my free agency period in 2010, it was one of the teams that I looked at,” James said before the Lakers played at Madison Square Garden on Feb. 3. “So I’ve had that thought in my career.”

  • Michael Jordan’s parents, Deloris and James R. Jordan, Sr., helped their son build his legacy

Michael Jordan’s parents, Deloris and James R. Jordan, Sr., helped their son build his legacy

Michael Jordan is grateful to his parents, Deloris and James R. Jordan, Sr., for encouraging him to participate in athletics.

Recognized as the preeminent basketball athlete of all time, Michael led the Chicago Bulls to six NBA titles. At the time, they achieved the rare feat of becoming the sole team to complete two “three-peats,” as they did so by claiming three consecutive championships from 1991 to 1993 and 1996 to 1998. Throughout all of Michael’s significant events, his parents provided unwavering support and were the ones who urged him to enroll in community athletics during his childhood. Michael recalled in the premiere episode of his 2020 ESPN documentary series The Last Dance how his parents “try to keep me busy” and “encourage all their children to participate in organized sports so they can learn more about life.”

“At times, we worried about the whereabouts of our five children while both my spouse and I were employed,” James said in archival footage featured in the series. “Consequently, we reasoned that engaging them in sports could be one approach.” Depart them at the gym or the little league field and maintain their community involvement.” Michael stated that his success in the NBA was due to the teachings he gained during his formative years of athletics. “As one ages, in retrospect, one comes to comprehend the process by which one formed their personal identity.” Without the lessons I did absorb at a very tender age, I doubt I would be where I am today. “That inner competitiveness began to develop in me when I was a young child,” he elaborated on The Last Dance. Additionally, the athlete’s parents were instrumental in preserving their son’s legacy. Deloris advised the basketball player during negotiations with Nike in 1984, an agreement that produced the renowned Air Jordan shoe and served as the inspiration for the 2023 film Air. Deloris Jordan and James R. Jordan, Sr., Michael Jordan’s late mother and father, have been through everything from matching at a high school basketball contest to guiding Michael through his NBA career. It all began in high school.

Charity High School in Rose Hill, North Carolina, was where James and Deloris attended, according to the National Women’s History Museum. Following their 1954 encounter at a basketball game where James was a participant, they maintained romantic ties throughout their senior year of high school. Deloris attended a trade school in Alabama after they graduated, whereas James enlisted in the Air Force and moved to San Antonio, Texas, following their graduation. The couple wed and relocated to Virginia in 1956, subsequent to James’s transfer to a military base in that state. According to the Chicago Tribune, they lived in Virginia for several years before relocating temporarily to Brooklyn, New York, in 1962 so James could complete mechanic’s training on the GI Bill. It took the parents of Michael 18 months to relocate from New York to North Carolina, where they continued to raise their family. Deloris and James are the parents of five children.

Michael is the youngest son of James and Deloris. Roslyn Jordan, James Ronald “Ronnie” Jordan Jr., Deloris Jordan, and Larry Jordan are the other four offspring of the couple. ESPN reported in 2009 that Ronnie had devoted 31 years to the Army, that Rosyln and her mother had co-authored a number of children’s books, and that Larry had previously held the position of regional sales manager for Upper Deck, a manufacturer of sports memorabilia. “I always told my children, ‘Each one of you has special gifts, it’s how you use them,’” Deloris indicated to ESPN. “Everyone possessed a unique talent; however, their approaches to that talent varied considerably.” While Michael may possess basketball prowess, Larry was more inclined towards handiwork, and our eldest son was an ROTC cadet who was a model of leadership. Additionally, James and Deloris are grandparents. Ronnie, their oldest son, is the father of three children, while Larry is the father of two. Michael is the father of five children; an earlier marriage to Juanita Vanoy resulted in the birth of three children, Jeffrey, Marcus, and Jasmine; his current wife, Yvette Prieto, bore identical twin daughters Victoria and Ysabel. James passed away in July 1993. James, who was slumbering in his vehicle at a rest stop along the North Carolina highway system in Robeson County, was fatally shot in July 1993. His remains were discovered eleven days later, having been thrown off a bridge in South Carolina. In 1996, Larry Demery and Daniel Andre Green, two adolescents, were found guilty of first-degree murder, armed robbery, and conspiracy to commit larceny. They received life sentences. With an initial release date of August 2023, Demery was granted parole in 2020. However, for an unspecified reason, the North Carolina Post-Release Supervision and Parole Commission terminated the agreement in 2021. Michael discussed the death of his father and how his family “had to support each other” during such a trying period in The Last Dance. According to him, Deloris, his mother, remained “strong” and assisted him in overcoming his sorrow. “The first thing she says, ‘You know, you got to be thankful,’ and I started looking at the positive,” recalls Jordan. “One of the things that [my dad] always taught me is that you have to take a negative and turn it into a positive, so I started looking to the other side of it, and that helped me get through it.” Michael revealed to Oprah Winfrey in 1993 that he had no intention of discovering the crime’s motive while he was lamenting the loss of his father. “I do not wish to know,” he replied in response to the query of whether he wished to question Demery and Green. “Simply knowing their rationales would likely cause me even more pain.” Because if it is, it will be completely without significance for the given reasons. “It is preferable that I am unaware.” Deloris is very active in charitable activities.

In 1989 and 1997, respectively, Deloris co-founded The Michael Jordan Foundation and the James R. Jordan Boys & Girls Club and Family Life Center with the intention of offering academic opportunities and recreational after-school programs to disadvantaged youth. Additionally, she assumes the role of the James R. Jordan Foundation’s founder and president. Established in 2000 in remembrance of her late spouse, this organization offers additional academic assistance to low-income children via a variety of mentorship programs. “I established the James R. Jordan Foundation to inspire young people by proving that anything is feasible with the right education. “Our students are intelligent and motivated to learn; all they require is guidance and a solid support system,” Deloris wrote in an online letter for the foundation. “Our role is to come alongside the schools, the families and the communities, and ultimately help them learn to help themselves.” Furthermore, Deloris constructed the Kenya Women and Children’s Wellness Centre in Nairobi, Kenya, as part of her efforts to improve the quality of healthcare there. She was honored with the Clinton Global Initiative Award in 2005 in recognition of her continuous endeavors in that region. Michael was motivated to pursue baseball by James.

Michael disclosed in the seventh episode of The Last Dance that James and he had a conversation regarding his retirement from basketball as one of their final topics of discussion. “We were debating, me and him, we were debating about me playing baseball,” Jordan remarked. “I would like to go play baseball.” I am contemplating retirement and would like to go play baseball. Additionally, “Do it, do it” was his mantra, as he was the one who initiated my baseball career. After the demise of his father in 1993, Michael made his initial retirement from basketball. His family and the Bulls’ leadership endorsed his choice, recognizing his necessity for transformation. “Because it was his father’s dream that he become a baseball player, I refrained from attempting to dissuade him,” said Jerry Reinsdorf, the Chicago Bulls’ owner, in the series. “But I said to him, ‘playing baseball is a lot harder than you think it is.’” In 1994, Michael entered into a minor league agreement with the Chicago White Sox, where he participated for their affiliate, the Birmingham Barons, until March 1995, when he made his NBA return. James and Michael maintained an exceptionally tight bond.

Michael has expressed his close relationship with his father in a candid manner. On The Last Dance, he referred to him as “my rock” and remarked that they were “extremely close.” “I was constantly advised by him,” the NBA legend remarked. “I recall being suspended three times in a single year during ninth grade. During that summer, my father discreetly approached me and advised, ‘Look, you don’t appear to be progressing in the right direction.’” “If you wish to engage in all of this mischievous activity, you may disregard sports.” He proceeded, “That was sufficient for my attention.” It was thereafter as if I had tunnel vision, and I avoided any further misbehavior.” James was in attendance when his son won the NBA championship for the third time in a row (1991, 1992, 1993). The final championship was won only a few weeks prior to the passing of James. Michael stated in the eighth episode of The Last Dance that he “felt naked” at his first basketball contest back in 1995 because his father “just wasn’t there.” Initially, Michael altered his jersey number in response to the passing of his father. In the series, he stated, “I didn’t want to go to 23 because I knew my father wouldn’t be there to watch me.” “And I felt it was a new beginning, and 45 was my first number when I played in high school.” Michael played in his fourth NBA Finals appearance on Father’s Day, 1996, and the day’s significance profoundly affected him. His companion and driver, George Kohler, stated on The Last Dance that Michael’s father’s constant presence at that game “suffocated a portion of his heart.” After securing another championship for the Chicago Bulls, Jordan broke down in tears on the floor in the locker room as he dedicated the victory to his father. “I cannot even put into words what it means to me on Father’s Day.” “I am certain that he is watching,” he stated in a series-featured post-game interview. “To my wife, to my kids, to my mother, to my brothers and sisters, this is for daddy.” Deloris is the author of numerous publications.

While performing charitable work, Deloris is also the author of a best-selling book. Together with her daughter Rosyln, she has authored numerous children’s books, such as Salt in His Shoes and Michael’s Golden Rules. In September 2009, Deloris divulged the source of inspiration for her inaugural children’s book, Salt in His Shoes, during an interview with ESPN. She recollected an incident from Michael’s youth in which he beseeched her to “go sprinkle salt in your shoes and pray” in response to his demand to attain a greater stature. “He would tell me I was being silly, but I had to pacify him so I could finish dinner,” according to her. “His father would then enter the room and tell him that he desired to be tall.” “You have it in your heart,” we would advise. Your height resides within you. “Your thinking can be as tall as you desire it to be.” Deloris stated to NPR in April 2007 that her capacity to compose captivating and enlightening content for children is a result of her philanthropic endeavors in schools and her responsibilities as a mother of five. “As a result of my collaboration with the James Jordan Foundation, we have endorsed four schools in Chicago,” They attend grades elementary through high. Consequently, we labor at the school. I recognize the children’s predicament. As soon as I start writing, it flows effortlessly. “Once more, it is effortless because I collaborate with them,” she explained. Michael was ultimately persuaded to contract with Nike.

Although he is now closely associated with Nike, Michael nearly withdrew from his contract with the company in 1984. The basketball player detailed in The Last Dance how, despite his initial desire to sign with Adidas, his parents persuaded him to attend a meeting with Nike. “My mother instructed me to go listen,” I replied. ‘You will go listen even if it’s not to your liking.’ “In the series, she compelled me to board that plane and attend the lecture,” he stated. “I entered that meeting with a reluctance to participate, and Nike presented a substantial proposal. My father stated, “It would be foolish for you to decline this offer.” “This is an exceptional offer.” Michael was awarded a $250,000 salary and a signature shoe, the now-iconic Air Jordan footwear, as part of his initial contract with Nike. Michael denoted his mother’s contribution to his accomplishments in 2021 with the Dear Deloris shoe, an installment in his Jordan Series that commemorates individuals who have influenced his legacy

Los Angeles Lakers superstar LeBron James recently broke the Internet by surpassing NBA legend Kareem Abdul-Jabbar’s all-time scoring record. Meanwhile, Tuesday night’s historic game against the Oklahoma City Thunder led to several heart-warming father-son moments between LeBron James and Bronny and Bryce James amid the cheering of the crowd. The trio continued their frolics during Thursday night’s game against the Milwaukee Bucks. Fans caught the star kids Bronny and Bryce mocking their father on live TV, which prompted hilarious responses from the King and his fans.

The Lakers rested James for the game against the Bucks. Therefore, he witnessed the game in a suit from courtside. However, the game didn’t go in favor of the Lakers as they succumbed to the Milwaukee side for a 106-115 defeat. The Greek Freak Giannis Antetokoumpo pitched in with 38 points, 10 rebounds, and 6 assists to lead his team to a comfortable victory.

The Bleacher Report recently shared a post on Instagram, where the Bronny James imitated his father’s stiff movements during the Bucks game with the caption, “Bronny and Bryce got jokes.”.
