“Messin’ With the Old Ice Man”: When George Gervin Defended Losing to Michael Jordan in a 1-on-1 Game by Recalling His Glory Days

George Gervin acquired the nickname ‘The Iceman’ due to his remarkable scoring ability, calm demeanor, and reluctance to engage in conversations. His ABA teammate, Roland Taylor, initially called him ‘Ice,’ and the name stuck. Gervin credited Julius Erving for further solidifying the persona by engaging in intense 1-on-1 battles during practice. ‘Ice’ evolved into ‘The Iceman,’ making it one of the coolest nicknames in NBA history, pun intended.

NBA Analyst Breaks Down How Bucks Can Keep Giannis Antetokounmpo and Counter Stephen Curry Like the Warriors

The Milwaukee Bucks are in big trouble. Their superstar forward Giannis Antetokounmpo made it clear that he will leave Milwaukee if the team does not work towards winning another championship. “I am a Milwaukee Buck, but most importantly, I am a winner.” said the Greek Freak on his dicey future with the Bucks. Following Giannis’ shocking comments, analysts are trying to find a way Milwaukee can secure their franchise leader for the long haul.

Veteran NBA Analyst Ramona Shelburne showed the Bucks a strategy to keep their superstar in Milwaukee, reminding them of The Golden State Warriors’ way of handling Stephen Curry’s career.

The Milwaukee Bucks can do what the Warriors did with Chef Curry

In the latest episode of the Lowe Post Podcast hosted by Zach Lowe, Ramona showed Milwaukee a way to keep the 2-time MVP in their team. Talking about the aging core roster of the Bucks, she advised them to follow what the Warriors did when their superstars Stephen Curry, Klay Thomspon, and Draymond Green reached the later stages of their careers. She compared Giannis to Steph, calling them “Superstars way too good to trade”. After the 2019 finals loss, it seemed like Stephen Curry would look for another destination because his team was no longer a championship contender due to injuries.

“They got good again real fast.” The veteran analyst said. The Warriors handled the situation beautifully as they brought in more help for the 4-time Champion, and when the team got healthy, they got back to the top of the mountain in 2022. “They have doubled down on the guys who seem to give Steph a chance to win. Youth and rebuilding plan be damned.” Ramona added. Warriors have decided to go All-in on their superstar trio as long as they are healthy and competing. That has kept Stephen Curry happy in Golden State.

Giannis Antetokounmpo in Milwaukee will be more like Dirk than Steph

Despite Ramona’s strategy to treat Giannis like Steph, Zach Lowe believes that the Golden State Warriors situation is one of a kind, “The Warriors are an anomaly.” The Warriors were lucky to draft three future superstars around the same time. But that is not what generally happens.

“Dirk is the norm.” Lowe believes if Giannis stays in Milwaukee throughout his career, his situation will more likely be like Dallas legend Dirk Nowitzki rather than Stephen Curry. Dirk won only one title in Dallas in 2011 and then rode off into the sunset after several losing seasons. The same happened with Kobe Bryant and the Lakers. His final years with the Lakers were very disappointing. “This is generally what happens to great teams.” Lowe concluded.

Milwaukee does not have many assets to upgrade its roster. The clock is ticking, and they need to act fast. If Giannis and Co. have another disappointing season this year, the 2-time MVP will most likely find a “better situation” to succeed.

Ayesha Curry is putting an end to “ridiculous” rumors she’s in an open relationship with her NBA superstar husband, Stephen Curry … saying it’s 100% not true.

Ayesha — who married Steph in 2011 — is breaking her silence weeks after gossip blogs reported (citing an anonymous tip) the adored couple wasn’t monogamous … denying the claims in a response to an Instagram troll.

“Don’t believe everything you read,” Curry said on Monday. “Do you know how ridiculous that is? Don’t disrespect my marriage like that. Please and thank you.”

Of course, the Currys first met as teens in Charlotte, N.C. … but didn’t start dating until years later.

The couple got hitched on July 30, 2011 … and went on to have 3 kids together — Riley (9), Ryan (6), and Canon (3).

Ayesha Curry has shared much with fans over the years, but if she could do things differently in showing off her family life, she would.

In her May 2023 cover story with Insider, the wife of Warriors superstar Steph Curry expressed remorse for overexposing the couple’s eldest child, 10-year-old daughter Riley, on a public platform when she was younger.

“When the social media thing started, nobody knew what that was going to become,” the 34-year-old Ayesha said.

“If we had known back in the day just how chaotic it would make life, I don’t think we would’ve done it. But we were just genuinely living our lives back then. And we thought, ‘This is our kid. We’re bringing our kid along.’”

Riley was often a staple at Curry’s postgame press conferences as the team won three titles in four seasons between 2015-’18.

Though Ayesha sporadically features her family on Instagram, including daughter Ryan, 7, and son Canon, 4, the media personality notes that none of her and Curry’s three children have social media accounts or mobile devices.

That said, Ayesha and Curry, 35, have conversed about striking a balance.

“Where’s the middle ground, where we’re strict, but we’re also allowing our kids to experience life?” Ayesha said “We’re trying to figure out what that balance is. Just kind of learn as you go, right?”

  • The Impact of Hank Luisetti’s Shooting Style on Stephen Curry’s Basketball Journey

The Impact of Hank Luisetti’s Shooting Style on Stephen Curry’s Basketball Journey

    https://image2.affcoder.com/storage/images/169510979037IATsIkPocojhgwmvxi.jpeg

Stephen Curry is the NBA’s greatest shooter, and it’s often said that he changed the game. This is true, but Curry wasn’t the first player to change how NBA players played.

In fact, if it wasn’t for Stanford’s Hank Luisetti, Curry may have never had the chance to change the game. This was because Luisetti is credited as the player who invented what we know to be the jump shot.

“We made a trip to New York, played in Madison Square Garden and revolutionized the game,” Walter Vincenti, Stanford’s 1936 basketball team manager, said. “He [Luisetti] was unusual in his day. But people soon began to imitate him, and basketball became a more wide-open game.”

Vincenti was speaking about how, when all the other players were shooting either hook shots or the standard two-handed set shot, Luisetti was shooting the game’s first jump shots.

Now, there’s some debate about whether Luisetti actually created the jump shot. A player named John Miller Cooper has also been credited as the inventor of the jump shot.

Even if Luisetti did not create what we know as the jump shot, he was the one who made it popular. Just like Stephen Curry did not invent the three-point shot, but he sure did popularize it.

Luisetti continued to use his jump shot, which was a running jump shot, and this would change the game forever, like how Curry’s three-point shot has changed the game today. The reason Luisetti’s jump shot was such a game-changer was because it sped up the game.

The game was slow, as players took the time to get into their set shots. The jump shot was quicker and more fluid. This led to a fast pace style of basketball that not only saw bigger scores but it was more exciting, at least to most.

There were some people who didn’t approve of Luisetti’s shooting style and believed it was bad for the game. In a game between Stanford and No. 1-ranked Long Island University, a reporter wrote a piece about Luisetti’s shooting and it wasn’t to praise it.

“Some of his shots would have been deemed foolhardy if attempted by another player,” the reporter wrote.

Still, Luisetti and his new form of shooting, which his teammates copied, set out to do the unthinkable. They were going to beat the top-seeded Long Island team.

The game was played at Madison Square Garden, and Long Island entered the game on a 43-game winning streak. The arena was packed as most wanted to watch the best team, Long Island, play.

According to Stanford basketball radio analyst John Platz, he believed fans should be packing the stadium to watch Luisetti play.

“He’s certainly known here [Stanford],” Platz said. “Why isn’t he more revered?”

As for the game between Stanford and Long Island, Luisetti scored 15 points and led Stanford to a 45-31 victory over Long Island. This ended Long Island’s long win streak and gave the world its first glimpse at Luisetti and his jump shot.

    Stephen Curry Changed The Game
Stephen Curry was drafted into the NBA in 2009. At that time, NBA teams averaged 18.1 three-point attempts per game. As of the 2022-23 season, the league average was 34.2 per game.

Curry is the main reason for the change because not only did she start attempting a lot per game, he was making them at a high rate. As a rookie, Curry attempted 4.8 threes per game.

In Curry’s historic 2015-16 season, where he was named the first-ever unanimous MVP, Curry attempted 11.2 threes while making 5.1 threes per game. This type of shooting from Curry led to every team changing their game plans.

Today, centers routinely step out and fire up three-pointers. This is encouraged by the coaching staff. In the 1990s, if a center shot a three, he’d likely be pulled from the game.

Yes, things have changed. First, it was Hank Luisetti changing the game with his jump shot. More recently, Stephen Curry changed the game with his incredible three-point shooting.

The game has constantly evolved, and it’ll continue to happen. This is what keeps the game of basketball exciting and fresh.

Before he was splashing three-pointers on his way the Most Valuable Player award, Stephen Curry was a key piece for the 10th seeded Davidson Wildcats.

    March 28, 2008

Behind a pair of jaw-dropping shooting displays against Gonzaga and Georgetown, Curry’s wildcats traveled to Fox Field in Detroit for the Sweet 16.

Davidson met up with the third-seeded Wisconsin Badgers in the Midwest Regional Final. Bo Ryan’s 30-5 Badgers boasted a rotation with three All-Big Ten players. Wisconsin’s guard Joe Krabenhoff was named to the Big-Ten All-Defensive Team. After two 15-point victories, the Badgers coasted into the Sweet 16.

No matter the accolades, it wasn’t enough to slow down Curry. The second-team All-American toasted the defensive combo of Krabenhoff and Michael Flowers for 33 of Davidson’s 73 points en route to the Elite Eight.

The future lottery pick drilled six shots from beyond the arc while adding four assists, four steals and three rebounds. Curry’s 33 in the Sweet 16 was his fourth straight 30-point effort in the NCAA Tournament.

Michael Jordan explains the difference between Larry Bird and Bill Laimbeer when it comes to dirty plays…..

During an interview on the Arsenio Hall show in 1990, basketball legend Michael Jordan shared his thoughts on some of the dirtiest players in the NBA. When asked about the names that come to his mind, Jordan pointed out Bill Laimbeer and Larry Bird.

However, Jordan made a distinction between the two players when it came to their style of play. He acknowledged that both Laimbeer and Bird were known for their physicality on the court, but he believed Bird played a cleaner game compared to Laimbeer. Jordan explained that Bird’s aggressive approach didn’t involve dirty tactics, whereas Laimbeer had a reputation for using more questionable methods to gain an advantage.

Jordan’s opinion provides insight into the differences in playing styles among NBA players and highlights the varying degrees of physicality and sportsmanship within the league.

Overall, Jordan’s remarks offer a glimpse into the conversations and perceptions surrounding the NBA during that era, shedding light on players who were noted for their aggressive play, but with varying degrees of fairness.
