BREAKING: New England Patriots Interested In Massive Trade For Kansas City Chiefs 2X Super Bowl Champion

New England Patriots Kansas City Chiefs

The New England Patriots have reportedly expressed interest in trading for a star Kansas City Chiefs cornerback this offseason. The Patriots are looking to improve the position group after cutting J.C Jackson last week following a dramatic 2023 season.

The Kansas City Chiefs have big decisions upcoming

The offseason for the Chiefs has been marked by internal drama, primarily revolving around the intricate balancing act between their star defensive players and the constraints of their salary cap. Notably, the Chiefs have not yet finalized an extension for defensive tackle Chris Jones. Additionally, recent developments saw the Chiefs using the franchise tag on L’Jarius Sneed, although they have allowed him to explore potential trade options.

L’Jarious Sneed has a lot of interest from the league

The trade market for Sneed is robust a week before free agency starts. According to Tyler Dragon with USA Today, the Patriots are one of seven teams that have shown interest in trading for Sneed:

“As expected, the Kansas City Chiefs officially placed the franchise tag on cornerback L’Jarius Sneed. Sneed still has permission to seek a trade despite the designation. A person with direct knowledge of the situation told USA TODAY Sports that the Minnesota Vikings, Indianapolis Colts, Tennessee Titans, New England Patriots, Detroit Lions, Atlanta Falcons and Jacksonville Jaguars have expressed interest in the Chiefs corner. The person told USA TODAY Sports on condition of anonymity because of the sensitivity of the situation.

Both sides have until mid-July to finalize a long-term extension or until the NFL’s trade deadline to part ways via trade.

Sneed is one of the best zone cover corners in the NFL. According to Next Gen Stats, Sneed allowed no touchdowns and a league-low four yards per target while in zone coverage in 2023.”

Do the New England Patriots need Sneed over other areas?

L'Jarius Sneed expected to land massive payday after Super Bowl exploits as NFL teams aim to poach Chiefs CB away from Kansas City
Sneed emerged as a pivotal player in the Chiefs’ triumph over the San Francisco 49ers in the Super Bowl, showcasing his prowess as one of the top cornerbacks in the league during the previous season. His addition would undoubtedly bolster the formidable defensive lineup of the Patriots.

However, amidst the potential gains Sneed could bring to the Patriots, it prompts consideration whether that’s the primary area where New England should direct its focus. To secure victories, especially in tightly contested matches, the Patriots must prioritize augmenting their offensive arsenal with potent weapons for the upcoming season.

BREAKING: Chris Jones Secures Title as Highest-Paid Defensive Tackle in NFL History

Following consecutive Super Bowl championships, the Kansas City Chiefs are now aiming to achieve an unprecedented three-peat. This past Saturday, the team took a significant stride towards this ambitious goal by re-signing the highly-regarded defensive tackle, Chris Jones.

Jones will be returning to Kansas City under a lucrative five-year contract, guaranteeing him $95 million. While the final terms of the agreement are still being ironed out, it’s confirmed that the guaranteed sum will be dispersed over the initial three years, according to ESPN.

With this massive deal, Jones ascends to the position of the highest-paid defensive tackle, surpassing Nick Bosa of the San Francisco 49ers.

Having patiently awaited a long-term contract, the 29-year-old finally reaches an agreement that promises his presence in Kansas City for the foreseeable future. Ahead of the 2023 season, Jones held out for an extension and even skipped the Chiefs’ training camp before ultimately settling for a one-year deal.

Chris Jones’ decision to bet on himself last year appears to have paid dividends. He played a crucial role in Steve Spagnuolo’s formidable defense, which allowed only 17.3 points per game throughout the regular season. With impressive stats of 10.5 sacks and 30 tackles during the 2023 season, Jones significantly contributed to securing the Kansas City Chiefs’ fourth Super Bowl title. Consequently, it was only a matter of time before the organization secured the services of the five-time Pro-Bowler once again.

BREAKING!!! Chris Jones agrees record-breaking five-year contract with Kansas City Chiefs

The Super Bowl champion Kansas City Chiefs and defensive star Chris Jones have agreed to the framework of a five-year contract that includes $95m guaranteed and keeps the All-Pro defensive tackle off the free-agent market, sources told the Associated Press.

The money that is guaranteed is expected to come over the first three years with another two years that are not guaranteed. The deal makes Jones the highest-paid defensive tackle in NFL history.

Jones, who turns 30 in July, becomes one of the highest-paid defensive players in the NFL, falling just behind the $34m average annual salary paid by the San Francisco 49ers to edge-rusher Nick Bosa. The deal eclipses the $31.6m average of Rams defensive tackle Aaron Donald, who had long represented the financial benchmark for a defensive player.

Kansas City Chiefs Sign Chris Jones To Record Breaking Deal | Yardbarker

Jones’s agents, Michael and Jason Katz, tweeted their congratulations in a post on X, to “the highest-paid defensive tackle in NFL history.”

Jones made it clear after the Chiefs beat the 49ers in the Super Bowl last month, that he was eager to chase a three-peat. But he first needed to reach an agreement to remain in Kansas City, which had proven difficult over the past two offseasons.

Jones and the Chiefs were at such an impasse entering the final year of his previous contract that he skipped the entire offseason program, including a mandatory minicamp and training camp, and Week 1 of the regular season. Jones piled up nearly $4m in fines before agreeing to an incentive-laden one-year deal that got him back on the field this past season.

Jones responded by starting every game the rest of the way, including a meaningless regular-season finale against the Chargers, when he got the last sack he needed to trigger a $1.25m bonus in his contract.

Jones had another half-sack in a wildcard win over Miami in one of the coldest games in NFL history, then helped Kansas City win road games over Buffalo and Baltimore to return to the Super Bowl. In that game, the Chiefs fell behind early before rallying to force overtime, then winning the game on Patrick Mahomes’ touchdown pass to Mecole Hardman.

The Chiefs have been aggressive in trying to keep the core of the league’s second-ranked defense together next season.

Earlier in the week, the Chiefs used the franchise tag on L’Jarius Sneed, giving them the option of keeping one of the best cover cornerbacks expected to hit free agency on a $19.8m contract next season. The Chiefs also could sign him to a long-term deal or trade him, which not only would provide some draft capital but also some salary cap relief.

Shortly after tagging Sneed, the Chiefs signed pending free-agent linebacker Drue Tranquill to a $19m, three-year deal that included a $4.5m signing bonus and $12.5m guaranteed. Tranquill signed a one-year deal with Kansas City relatively late in free agency last year, but he emerged as one of the unsung heroes of coordinator Steve Spagnuolo’s defense.

There is nothing unsung about Jones, though. The fearsome defensive tackle has been a game-wrecker almost since the moment Kansas City drafted him in the second round out of Mississippi State in 2016. Jones moved into the starting lineup by the sixth game of his rookie season, earned second-team All-Pro honors while piling up 15 1/2 sacks in 2018, and then began a run of five straight Pro Bowls the following year.

He was voted a first-team All-Pro for the second straight season this past year. And while it is unclear whether that drove up his price, it almost certainly made keeping him in Kansas City a priority for the Chiefs with the start of free agency Wednesday.

Choking back tears, Jason Kelce devoted a chunk of his retirement speech to his wife, Kylie, saying it’s “no coincidence I have enjoyed my best years of my career with Kylie by my side.”

He also spoke about the night he met Kylie at Buffalo Billiards in 2014 following the Eagles’ annual Christmas party. 85.6% of Inquirer readers wanted Jason Kelce to stick around for another year despite the strong rumors of his retirement.

However, that’s a gradual decline from previous years — 97.9% after the 2021 season and 94.8% after 2022 — which suggests readers are slowly arriving at the acceptance stage of grief.

The Philadelphia Eagles are reportedly shopping one of their top pass-rushers as the 2024 league new year draws closer.

According to a report from Tom Pelissero and Ian Rapoport of NFL Network, the Philadelphia Eagles are engaged in “trade calls on” veteran defensive end Josh Sweat. The 26-year-old has one year remaining on his contract.

The Eagles have already lost All-Pro center Jason Kelce to retirement, and veteran safety Kevin Byard was released in a cap-saving move. Defensive linemen Fletcher Cox is a pending free agent as well, with retirement a possibility.

Another star Eagles pass-rusher, Haason Reddick, has also been heavily mentioned in trade rumors. And now it looks like GM Howie Roseman is looking to move on from

The Eagles have two promising young talents on the defensive line in Jordan Davis and Jalen Carter, who can expect larger roles in 2024. Still, it’s hard to believe that an Eagles’ front seven that racked up 70 sacks in the 2022 season is already undergoing so much change in just one offseason.

Report: Eagles shopping Josh Sweat and Haason Reddick; interested in Bryce Huff..

While Jon Rothstein has credibly informed us that “This Is March” and college basketball postseason tournaments are already in full swing, the NFL takes no time off from news and this Saturday is no different. Per The Athletic’s Dianna Russini (and NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero among others), the Philadelphia Eagles have “been shopping both Josh Sweat and Haason Reddick” for the last “few weeks.”

A month ago there were reports that the Birds gave Reddick permission to seek a trade but, two days later, Reddick himself said he didn’t ask to seek a trade and he wanted to stay in Philly, which is his hometown and where he played college football too. However, a week ago, rumors surfaced that the Dallas Cowboys and Jacksonville Jaguars were interested in trading for Reddick and now there seems to be more smoke building around a potential trade with Russini’s Saturday morning report.

Reddick, who turns 30 on Sept. 22, was a first round pick by the Arizona Cardinals in 2017 and signed a free agent deal with the Eagles in 2022. In two seasons in Philly, Reddick has amassed 27 sacks, six forced fumbles, three fumble recoveries, and 87 tackles. His cap hit for 2024 is just under $22 million, which is the highest on the team.

Sweat’s name is a newer addition to the rumor mill and, with both of them entering contract years in a new, Vic Fangio-led defensive system and looking to be paid what they’re worth, it appears less and less likely that both will be on the team in 2024. With NFL free agency starting next week the moves could be coming fast and furious as Howie Roseman attempts to reshape an Eagles defense that was extremely underwhelming last year.

Sweat, a fourth round pick in 2018, has 35 sacks (11 during the 2022 season) in his six-year career and has made one Pro Bowl. His contract shows him with a cap hit of just over $9 million this year and, if my rudimentary understanding of the salary cap charts on Over The Cap are correct, the 26-year old will cost the Eagles more in dead money if moved before June 1.

To round out Russini’s information-packed tweet, she notes that Roseman and the Eagles are expected to “aggressively pursue” New York Jets EDGE Bryce Huff. Signed as an undrafted free agent by the Jets in 2020, the former Memphis Tiger has blossomed into a fierce pass rusher. Last year for New York, the 26-year old racked up 29 tackles, 10 sacks, and one pass defended.

Howie Roseman has never been shy about making big moves in the off-season and the Eagles need much more production from their pass rush in 2024, so it appears as though every option is on the table for improvement. With Philadelphia legend Brandon Graham re-signing for a 15th season at EDGE rusher, the Eagles will also be looking for increased production from Nolan Smith, Tarron Jackson, and Patrick Johnson.

“I have zero iпterest iп writiпg Travis Kelce as a sυperhero,” Frizell said. “My backgroυпd is I have a master of fiпe arts iп creative пoпfictioп writiпg. Aпd so writiпg aboυt real people aпd real thiпgs aпd tryiпg to get iп their head aпd that’s what drew me to the pυblisher.

Kelce’s life story, particυlarly his troυbles at the Uпiversity of Ciпciппati aпd his relatioпship with brother, Jasoп, appealed to Frizell.
