The Philadelphia Eagles announced the signing of their new starting running back as the 2024 NFL year began Wednesday afternoon at 4 p.m. ET.

“BACK IN PA! Welcome to the City of Brotherly Love, @saquon. We’ve agreed to terms with @saquon on a 3-year deal,” the Eagles’ X account tweeted.

Barkley, 27, is reportedly signing a three-year, $37.75 million contract that includes $26 million at signing, per ESPN’s Adam Schefter. His new average annual salary of $15.833 million per year will be the second-highest for a running back in NFL history.

A native of Coplay, PA, Barkley stayed in-state and spent three years at Penn State before being the No. 2 overall pick by the New York Giants in the 2018 draft.

In six seasons with New York, Barkley played in 74 games while posting 1,201 carries for 5,211 yards and 35 touchdowns. He also tallied 288 catches for 2,100 yards and 12 touchdowns.

The Eagles will now look to make it back to the Super Bowl-worthy heights that they’ve set for themselves. The money that they’re fixing to throw at Barkley shows they believe he’s the franchise running back that can help get them there.

Controversy appears to be brewing in Philadelphia.

On Monday, it was announced that the Philadelphia Eagles had signed ex-New York Giants star running back Saquon Barkley to a three-year contract worth $37.75 million. The deal became official on Wednesday once the new league year began at 4:00 p.m. EST.

It seemed cut-and-dry at first. The Eagles negotiated with Barkley during the legal tampering window and signed him to a three-year deal.

But Penn State head coach James Franklin may have inadvertently hinted that the Eagles violated the tampering rules, per a piece from Mark Wogenrich of Sports Illustrated. That piece detailed a conversation Franklin had with Eagles GM Howie Roseman.

“He said that was one of the first things that Howie said to him on the phone as part of his sales pitch,” Franklin said on Tuesday, per Wogenrich. “Not only the Philadelphia Eagles and that that but also the connection with Penn State and the fan base as well. So just a really cool opportunity.”

And as noted by Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk, teams cannot speak directly to a player during the negotiating window. If Roseman did speak to Barkley directly, as Franklin indicated, then the Eagles clearly violated the league’s tampering rules:

“During the 52-hour, pre-free-agency negotiating window, teams can talk directly to agents. They can’t talk to the player, unless the player has no agent and represents himself.

That’s relevant today because an item in SI.com suggests that Eagles G.M. Howie Roseman spoke directly to Giants running back Saquon Barkley during the negotiating window. The Eagles have denied it.”

The NFL is awfully strict on violations of tampering rules. In the 2022 offseason, the NFL stripped the Miami Dolphins of their 2023 first and 2024 third-round picks for speaking to Tom Brady and Sean Payton while they were under contract with the Patriots and Saints, respectively.

Owner Stephen Ross was suspended through Oct. 17 of that year and fined $1.5 million.

TAYLOR Swift’s Singapore swing was such a success she landed a multi-million offer for her and Travis Kelce – with the country’s main airline and tourist board.

The U.S. Sun has spoken to a source close to the negotiations who claims the superstar duo made such a positive – and lucrative – impact during the Asia leg of her Eras tour that officials in Singapore are desperate to strike while the iron’s hot.

Taylor and Travis are “the perfect target to become ambassadors for Singapore at the international level,” said the insider who claimed “having both of them here for a couple of days is a massive thing for Singapore, and the impact on the economy is massive.

“We never had an artist that attracts so many fans and helps a country generate so much business and money in such a short amount of time,” he gushed.

The figures are astounding – the source says Singapore Airlines flew around 200,000 Swifties in ahead of her bumper run of six shows in the country earlier this month and that a two-year, $3.2 million deal is on the table.

The airline aims to use them as brand ambassadors for international markets and in commercials, in a move which is being trumpeted as a “fantastic” move for Singapore.

Tourism is said to generate $22 billion a year in southeast Asia. A business consultant in Singapore’s business and tourism department, who has been working on the offers, believes bringing the Cruel Summer star and her boyfriend into the mix is the “perfect” fit.

“They are both superb people, their love is so contagious and everybody loves them,” the insider told The U.S. Sun.

“They are modern, smiling, very positive minded and very dynamic and ambitious. That fits perfectly with the country’s philosophy.”

The six concerts at the National Stadium were a rip-roaring success, with Singapore the envy of Asia – this was her only stop in the region following gigs in Australia.
