It’s going to be a historic day and the start of something great.”

Patrick and Brittany, also 28, are co-owners of the professional soccer team, which Brittany founded alongside Chris and Angie Long.

The Kansas City Chiefs player continued, “I just want to give back in the best way possible and to be making history in women’s sports, I have my own daughter, to give them the platform that they deserve. I mean, I’ve seen the type of talent they showcase every single game and we wanted to build a stadium that matched that talent. And to have it here in Kansas City as the first women’s-specific stadium, and it’s just the start of something that will kinda take off throughout the rest of the world.”

Right before the game, the couple — who married in March 2022 and share two kids — stepped out onto the field and expressed their gratitude for all the support surrounding the team and the stadium.

“Kansas City! We’re here, we did it,” Brittany told the crowd. “I just want to say thank you guys for showing up today. This is history, this is incredible, and for you guys to show up for these women in their own stadium is amazing.”

Then, Patrick led the audience in the traditional “KC Baby” chant.

Throughout the game, Brittany shared tons of pictures and videos of their time at the Missouri venue via her Instagram Stories, including a cute one of her and Patrick hugging and cheering on the team from their seats.

Last January, Patrick shared the news on X that he was going to be taking a bigger role in the organization. “I am thankful for the chance to join @brittanylynne as part of the @thekccurrent ownership team,” he wrote. “She and the Longs have done an incredible job building a world-class organization and I am excited to join another championship-caliber club as it continues to make history.”

This isn’t the first team of which Patrick is part-owner. The quarterback is also a part-owner of the men’s soccer team Sporting KC and the baseball team Kansas City Royals.

“For me, it just shows how much support Kansas City has,” he told SportsCenter. “You go to any game, you see the fanbase and how much support. They really love the players for what they do on the field, but also off of it as well. It’s a great city. It’s the place me and Brittany want to raise our kids in, and it speaks to the people in this city.”

He isn’t the only one who supports the Missouri city. SportsCenter anchors asked Patrick and Brittany if pal Taylor Swift might attend a KC Current game in the near future.

“We might get her here at some point,” Patrick said. “She’s a busy woman and Travis [Kelce] is a busy guy, so maybe during the season or something like that we’ll get her out to a KC Current game. She loves supporting Kansas City just like we do. I’m sure Brittany can nudge her and get her here pretty easily.”

Urgent Update!! Kansas City Chiefs on the verge of trading L’Jarius Sneed to AFC contender …

Most of the gang is set to return as the Kansas City Chiefs attempt to become the first team in the Super Bowl era to threepeat as back-to-back-to-back champions. But one player whose future is uncertain is star cornerback L’Jarius Sneed.

He’s helped the Chiefs win two Super Bowls and has played in another, but now his contract has expired after playing out four years in Kansas City since becoming a fourth-round pick in 2020. The Chiefs, realizing Sneed’s value, placed the franchise tag on their 27-year-old starting cornerback. If he signed it, he would have earned $19.8 million in 2024, but he’d also be right back in this situation next year, seeking a new contract again.

Instead, there’s been a lot of trade chatter surrounding the 6-foot-1 cornerback. The Chiefs are already tight against the salary cap, and may not have the extra room needed to pay Sneed what he’s worth, so a trade may be the best resolution for all sides, and now there’s real momentum toward striking a deal.

According to Destin Adams of A to Z Sports, the Indianapolis Colts are nearing a trade for L’Jarius Sneed. A trade is believed to be very close, with the Colts expected to send the Chiefs a 2024 third-round pick (No. 82), plus an additional unknown selection in 2025.

However, other Colts reporters, namely Stephen Holder, suggest a trade may not happen with the Colts at all.

However, if the Colts strike a deal, they’re adding an impact player to their defense. Sneed ranked 30th among cornerbacks according to Pro Football Focus last season, earning a 73.8 coverage grade, good for 29th among 126 players. He primarily plays as an outside cornerback, which works out well for the Colts’ needs.

The Chiefs were initially believed to be seeking a second-round pick for Sneed, but those offers never materialized. Plus, the Colts will still have to sign Sneed to likely one of the richest contracts for cornerbacks.

However, landing the 82nd pick plus another selection in 2025 still offers the Chiefs a chance to improve their roster this offseason. Meanwhile, the Colts will be getting a new starting cornerback to pair with JuJu Brents and Kenny Moore III.

His vision for the Ignition Lab was born out of this desire, aiming to provide teens with hands-on STEM opportunities and industry-recognized skills in areas such as automotive, design, green tech, and software programming.

The Ignition Lab, set to occupy the muffler shop adjacent to Operation Breakthrough, will feature 10 dedicated labs offering a range of activities from multimedia production to automotive engineering. It serves as a natural progression for teens who have aged out of Operation Breakthrough’s MakerCity program and provides an alternative for those who may have nowhere else to turn.

The NWSL’s Kansas City Current and its ownership group, headlined by Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes and his wife, Brittany, had a Saturday to remember.

The Current opened the 2024 season on Saturday in their brand new CPKC Stadium, a historic soccer field with a capacity of 11,500 fans that is the first stadium built specifically to host women’s professional sports in the United States.

Kansas City came out firing, grabbing a 5–2 lead over the Portland Thorns and hanging on for a 5–4 victory to earn three points in the standings.

The Mahomes family, watching from a suite, were loving every minute of it.

“It’s been remarkable to be in this stadium and see the fans. I feel like I’m at Arrowhead,” Patrick Mahomes said before the game, via ESPN. “That’s the type of vibe I’m having here.”

Brittany Mahomes, who played collegiate soccer at the University of Texas at Tyler, bought a stake in the franchise along with Angie and Chris Long in December 2020. Patrick Mahomes joined the ownership group himself in 2023.

“I’ve seen the talent that they showcase every single game,” Patrick Mahomes told ESPN. “We wanted to build a stadium to match that talent. To have it here in Kansas City as the first women’s-specific, women’s only stadium, I think it’s the start of something that will take off throughout the rest of the world.”

Bia Zaneratto, Vanessa DiBernardo, Ellie Wheeler, Kristen Hamilton and Alexandra Pfeiffer also scored goals for Kansas City. Pfeiffer became the youngest goal scorer in NWSL history at 16 years and four months old.

Chiefs Digest’s Matt Derrick posted on March 11, “The Chiefs won’t tender an offer to RFA TE Jody Fortson but still hope to bring him back once free agency begins Wednesday.” However, on March 14, the Katz Brothers broke the news that Fortson was signing with the Miami Dolphins.

Fortson signed a one-year, $942,000 contract with the Dolphins. The 28-year-old told reporters he’s ready to make an impact in Miami and offered much credit to his time with Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce.

“Travis Kelce is my favorite teammate of all time on any level — Pop Warner, high school, college,” Fortson told reporters. “Not only because he took his time trying to like teach me the role of being a tight end, but just because of how a great person he is. He didn’t have to… He just showed unconditional love and knowledge for the game.”

The Valdosta State alum offered his mentor the highest praise possible. “Being in a room with Kelce, it probably, not probably, it definitely set me forward light years of where I would have been had I not had arguably the greatest of all time in that room. Being able to learn and see how he’s attacking different routes, and why he views coverage like this… you’re not able to get that unless you’re with somebody who knows that.”

With Kelce, he learned to slow his game down and have patience. Fortson called working with the future Hall of Famer an “extraordinary blessing.”

Fortson will have at least one familiar face in Miami, former Chiefs superstar wide receiver Tyreek Hill. “Now this is the news I been waiting on 🥹,” Hill posted after the news was announced. Fortson replied, “YEAHHHH 10 !!!!”

“You know, Tyreek is a goofball all the time,” Fortson told reporters. “But that’s also another intelligent player… He was like, ‘You’re coming into a situation where you get to be you. Let your personality ooze out. Just let that happen and everything would be fine.”

Fortson only had positive to say about his five-year tenure in Kansas City. “I just think it brings a winner’s attitude, a winner’s mindset,” the three-time Super Bowl champ said. “Everybody here knows I’ve been with the Chiefs my entire career. We’ve won there. I might not have had the role that I like, but I know what it takes to win.”

Fortson initially joined Kansas City on a tryout basis as an undrafted free agent in 2019. Despite minimal playing time, he became a fan favorite. After two years on the practice squad, he joined the active roster in 2021. Between 2021 and 2022, he appeared in 21 games, recording 14 receptions for 155 yards and four touchdowns. He missed the entirety of the 2023 NFL season after he suffered a shoulder injury in training camp.

Fortson still needs to earn his roster spot with the Dolphins. USA Today’s Mike Masala wrote, “If Fortson makes the team in Miami, he’ll likely be used as a run blocker and red-zone threat, considering he has received great run-blocking grades from Pro Football Focus (85.8 in 2021 and 73.9 in 2022).”

The Chiefs TEs Room with Travis Kelce May Look Very Different Next Season

Fortson likely isn’t the only tight end leaving the Chiefs in 2024. On March 12, ESPN’s Adam Schefter broke the news that former Cincinnati Bengals tight end Irv Smith Jr. was joining the Chiefs. Smith signed a one-year, $1.2 million contract with Kansas City.

With Smith joining the roster, the move appears to signal that tight end Blake Bell won’t remain in Kansas City. Smith, 25, is seen as an upgrade over Bell.

Bell, drafted in the fourth round of the 2015 NFL draft, closed out his fourth season with the Chiefs. After helping the Chiefs win the 2020 Super Bowl, he spent a year with the Dallas Cowboys before returning to Kansas City in 2021. Last March, he signed a one-year, $1.2 million contract with the Chiefs.
