Taylor Swift wins 13th Grammy for pop vocal album ‘Midnights’

It’s her, hi! Taylor Swift, the winner of 13 Grammys and the internet breaker after announcing brand-new album, “Tortured Poets Department.”

Swift won best pop vocal album for “Midnights.” This is Swift’s second win in the category; she was nominated once before for “1989.”

Swift has been nominated 52 times over her career, adding six this year:

“Anti-Hero,” pop solo performance, Taylor Swift
“Karma,” pop duo/group performance, Taylor Swift featuring Ice Spice
“Anti-Hero,” song of the year, Jack Antonoff and Taylor Swift
“Anti-Hero,” record of the year, Taylor Swift
“Midnights,” pop vocal album, Taylor Swift
“Midnights,” album of the year, Taylor Swift

Swift didn’t win song of the year, Billie Eilish won for her Barbie ballad, “What was I made for?” She also didn’t win best pop solo performance. The award went to Miley Cyrus’s “Flowers” and was her very first Grammy.

Before the primetime show, Swift and Ice Spice’s pop duo/group performance nomination did not win. “Karma” lost out to Phoebe Bridgers and SZA’s “Ghost In The Machine.” The win was Bridgers first Grammy.

The “Midnights” singer dressed in a white gown with long, sleek black gloves. Diamond necklaces draped around her neck along with a black jeweled choker with a watch in the center. Swift wore her hair down with a single braid.

Taylor Swift1… 2… 3… album of the year wins

Swift’s first through fourth Grammys came in 2010 for her work on her sophomore album, “Fearless,” including the coveted album of the year award. It’s an award she’s won thrice and could make history for winning four times.

“This is the story, all of us,” Swift said in her acceptance speech, “when we are 80 years old and we are telling the same stories over and over again to our grandkids and they’re so annoyed with us. This is the story we’re going to be telling over and over again. In 2010, that we got to win album of the year at the Grammys.”

    “White Horse.”

“We went to the off-camera area which is where they give country song of the year,” Rose said. “It was so cool because Taylor was so gracious and she said, ‘If we win, I want you to talk.’ And these were her first Grammys, too.”

In 2016, Swift’s fifth album,”1989,” took the top honor.

“I want to say to all the young women out there,” Swift said in her acceptance speech, “there are going to be people along the way who will try to undercut your success or take credit for your accomplishments or your fame. But if you just focus on the work and you don’t let those people sidetrack you, someday when you get where you’re going, you will look around and you will know that it was you and the people who love you who put you there.”

In 2021, her eighth album “Folklore” beat seven other artists including Dua Lipa, Post Malone and Coldplay. “Mostly, we just want to thank the fans,” she said in her acceptance speech. “You guys met us in this imaginary world that we created and we can’t tell you how honored we are forever by this.”

Swift’s friend and co-producer Aaron Dessner said in his speech, “It’s hard to believe I’m standing up here with one of the greatest living songwriters who somehow put trust in me to collaborate in this crazy time we all lived through.”

Taylor Swift just unveiled a new album at the 66th Grammy Awards on Sunday, and it’s not the one her fans were expecting.

Upon accepting the award for pop vocal albumSwift thanked the Recording Academy for its support, which is a “direct reflection of the fans.” As a token of her gratitude to her devoted fan base, she announced her newest release, “The Tortured Poets Department,” is on its way.

“I want to say thank you to the fans by telling you a secret that I’ve been keeping from you for the last two years,” she said. “Which is that my brand new album comes out April 19.”

She concluded her speech telling fans that she would post the cover art for her newest release on Instagram — and she made good on that promise. “All’s fair in love and poetry…,” she captioned a photo of the cover art. Her Instagram post also included a new set of what look to be lyrics to a song.

The self-proclaimed chairman of the Tortured Poets Department took her fans by surprise on Sunday. Ahead of the ceremony, fans speculated that Swift would announce “Reputation (Taylor’s Version),” a rerecorded version of her 2017 album.

Swifties noticed that the singer un-archived a 2017 Instagram post announcing the arrival of “Reputation,” which featured hits “Look What You Made Me Do” and “Getaway Car.” Swifties also noticed that the singer recently updated her social media profile pictures with a black-and-white version of the same photo.

For the uninitiated, Swift’s “Reputation” featured a black-and-white photo of the singer as its album art. At the 61st Grammy Awards in 2019, “Reputation” earned a nomination for pop vocal album.

On Sunday, fans also noticed that Swift’s merchandise store was locked and required a password for access.

Fueling even more “Reputation” speculation, Swift donned a white Schiaparelli gown. She accessorized the flowy gown — which featured a leg slit — with a black bedazzled clock choker, black arm-length gloves and black peep-toe heels.

“The Tortured Poets Department” will arrive after a landmark year for the Grammy-winning singer. In 2023, Swift launched her highly lucrative Eras tour, broke box office records with a film about her tour and began her highly public romance with Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce.

When Swift made Time magazine history as the first woman to appear twice on its annual Person of the Year cover, she told the magazine, “This is the proudest and happiest I’ve ever felt, and the most creatively fulfilled and free I’ve ever been.”

Coming into Sunday’s awards show, Swift was nominated for six Grammys. Her “Midnights” took home a pop vocal album and album of the year wins.

Taylor Swift looked like a princess at the 2024 Grammys!

The pop singer attended Sunday’s ceremony dressed in a white strapless Schiaparelli thigh-high slit dress that resembled Kate Middleton’s gown at the 2023 BAFTAs.

Like the Princess of Wales, Swift paired the look with black opera gloves but added some special accessories that included a layered necklace and a custom-made Lorraine Schwartz vintage watch that was worn as a choker.

The musician opted for a dark red lip and wore her hair to the side in textured waves. Swift made history on Sunday, becoming the only artist ever to win Album of the Year four times.

Although similar, Kate’s dress at the 2023 BAFTAs was an Alexander McQueen design that she first wore to attend the same ceremony in 2019. The repurposed dress had its left shoulder floral embellishments covered with white chiffon.

After originally wearing the look with silver jewelry, Kate added gloves and oversized rose gold floral earrings from Zara for a pop of color.

Genevieve James, creative director at royal glove supplier Cornelia James, told PEOPLE at the time about Kate’s accessories: “Opera gloves are transformative; they have enormous leverage. They turn any event into an occasion and a dress into a statement.”

Like Swift, Kate also made history wearing the dress as the 2023 BAFTAs marked her and Prince William’s event debut as the Prince and Princess of Wales. The couple have shown that they are fans of Swift on prior occasions.

While celebrating the 75th anniversary of the HMT Empire Windrush to London and the start of Black History Month in the United Kingdom, Kate was seen flashing heart hands — Swift’s signature move.

Ronnie Wood told Hello! magazine in November 2023 that Prince William joked that he would only go to one of his concerts if Swift made an appearance.

“We were talking about the tour and I said, ‘Come on, you’ve got to come out on tour’ and we were talking about the new album and everything. William said [he would] if we could get Taylor Swift there,” Wood said.

On Sunday, Swift shocked fans by announcing a new album, The Tortured Poets Department, coming out on April 19. She announced the project while accepting the Grammy for best pop vocal album.

Taylor Swift quietly downsizes to one private jet

Taylor Swift is down to one private jet.

The singer parted ways with her Dassault Falcon 900 on January 30, according to the Federal Aviation Authority’s website.

The jet had previously been listed under SATA LLC, a company with the same address as Taylor Swift Productions in Nashville, according to Tennessee Secretary of State documents. Swift’s holding company acquired the Dassault Falcon 900 in 2009, according to FAA data.

The jet is now registered to a company based in Missouri, which was incorporated in 2006. A representative from the company did not respond to Business Insider’s request for comment ahead of publication.

It’s unclear what the terms of the deal were. A brand new Dassault 900 has a list price of $44 million, according to Business Jet Traveler.

Up until January, the pop star had two private jets: the Dassault 900 and a Dassault 7X. The Dassault 7X is still registered to Island Jet Inc., a holding company listed under the same address as Taylor Swift Productions.

The Dassault 900 jet can carry up to 12 passengers. The Dassault 7X, by comparison, has a slightly larger cabin, carrying up to 16 passengers, and is designed for longer flights.

The last recorded flight on the Dassault 900 was on January 30, when the aircraft flew from Illinois to St. Louis, Missouri, according to data from the jet-tracking site JetSpy. The last time her 7X plane flew was on January 28 from Baltimore to Nashville, according to the flight tracker.

If Swift doesn’t use her 7X plane to get to Tokyo for this week’s string of concerts, fans have wondered how she will travel to the Super Bowl this weekend in Las Vegas to cheer on her boyfriend, Travis Kelce. Most likely, she’ll charter a private plane.

The singer has faced backlash for her private jet usage in the past. In 2022, Swift topped a list of celebrities with the most private jet carbon emissions. Last year, BI reported that the singer’s private jets spent over 166 hours in flight during the initial US leg of her Eras tour.

Swift’s spokesperson previously told BI the singer had purchased carbon credits to offset her jet use.

In the past, the singer has attempted to fly incognito, using the FAA’s privacy ICAO aircraft address program, also known as PIA.

However, Jack Sweeney, a college student who tracks the flights of celebrities using public information, has published flight data about Swift’s travels on social media.

    The singer has noticed.

Swift’s legal team sent a cease-and-desist letter to Sweeney, accusing him of “stalking and harassing behavior” over the publicized flight data, The Washington Post first reported on Tuesday.

“I think the people are interested,” Sweeney told BI over text. “You should have a decent expectation that your jet will be tracked whether or not I do it as, after all, it is public information.”

Taylor Swift walks the red carpet at the 2024 Grammy Awards

Taylor Swift shut down the red carpet at the 2024 Grammy Awards red carpet in a black and white dress.

Taylor Swift teased her new album “The Tortured Poets Department” by releasing the track list — and fans have speculated some songs may be about Swift’s most recent ex-boyfriend, Joe Alwyn.

In a surprising move, Swift revealed the titles for the songs in an Instagram post Monday, just days after announcing the upcoming music.

For her last album “Midnights,” the pop star slowly revealed each track on the album.

“The Tortured Poets Department” features tracks such as “Down Bad,” “But Daddy I Love Him,” “I Can Fix Him (No Really I Can” and “My Boy Only Breaks His Favorite Toys.”

The latest cover of the album also showcased the phrase, “I love you, it’s ruining my life.”

Fans are speculating the new album will be about her break up from Alwyn, with titles like “So Long, London.”

The indie actor, who is from London, previously inspired her song “London Boy” from her “Lover” album. “So Long, London” is also track five. The spot is typically reserved for Swift’s most vulnerable and personal song of the album.

Some of Swift’s previous track five songs include “Dear John,” “You’re On You’re Own, Kid” and “tolerate it.”

Fans also think the album title is a nod to her breakup with Alwyn. In 2022, the actor revealed he’s part of a group chat with actors Paul Mescal and Andrew Scott titled “The Tortured Man Club.”

Alwyn and Swift’s breakup became public knowledge in April, right after Swift kicked off “The Eras Tour,” but few details were shared.

“They had plenty in common and fell in love in a safe bubble while she was retreating from the world during ‘Reputation,’” a source told People magazine at the time. “Then, the pandemic hit, and they were locked down together and able to continue growing their relationship in this insulated way. But he didn’t really ‘know’ her yet outside of that bubble.”

Later in the evening, Swift also made history by winning her fourth album of the year award, also for “Midnights.”

“I love it so much. It makes me so happy,” Swift said while accepting the Grammy. “All I want to do is keep doing this. Mindblown. Thank you so much.”

Fans of Taylor Swift queue to buy merchandise in front of the Tokyo Dome a few hours ahead of the first leg of her Asia-Pacific “Eras Tour” in Tokyo on February 7, 2024

Taylor Swift will celebrate making Grammys history with a run of concerts in Tokyo starting on Feb 7, kicking off a month of sell-out shows in Asia that will include a quick run home to see her boyfriend contest the United States Super Bowl.

Hundreds of excited fans queued in the cold from morning to buy merchandise at the Tokyo Dome before the four shows, part of the megastar’s Eras Tour – the first billion-dollar tour ever.

“It’s us, hi! We are Swifties from Taiwan!” read a huge fabric banner featuring 10 pictures of Swift’s face, held up by a group of fans outside the 55,000-capacity arena.

Results of a hotly contested ticket lottery for Swift’s Japan dates were announced in July. Some fans travelled to Tokyo – even if the tour was coming to them.

“We came just for the concert as we couldn’t get tickets in Australia,” said 18-year-old Ebony Donohue with a laugh.

“I’m so excited to finally see her. All her music is so different. She’s so relatable, and strong and amazing.”

Others wearing Taylor Swift T-shirts and miniskirts snapped pictures, while those in a long line for branded goods said they had been waiting years for this moment.

“I’ve been listening to her songs since I was in middle school, about 10 years. This is the first time I’ll see her in concert, and I’ve been so excited since the moment we were able to get tickets,” 25-year-old Saya Matsuo told AFP.

“She is someone who can grab people’s hearts, make people sing and dance. I love her personality.”

Eighteen-year-old students Hikari Oka and Honoka Shimabara had been waiting since before 9am for the merchandise stall that opened at midday.

“When I listen to her songs, I feel energised, and it also gives me confidence,” Ms Oka said.

Swift-mania has reached fever pitch worldwide after the 34-year-old on Feb 4 scooped her fourth Album of the Year prize at the Grammys.

That is the most held by any artiste and breaks the previous record of three jointly held by Swift and the likes of Frank Sinatra, Paul Simon and Stevie Wonder.

    Super Bowl dash

Straight after her last Tokyo concert wraps up on Feb 10, Swift will make a pit stop at this weekend’s Super Bowl, where she is expected to cheer on her beau, Travis Kelce of the Kansas City Chiefs, from the VIP suites.

The pop icon will then play dates in Australia and Singapore before heading to Europe on the tour, which is predicted to make a staggering US$2 billion (S$2.7 billion).

An influx of fans to the concerts has been shown to create a so-called Swift effect on local economies.

Travel technology company Amadeus reported an “extraordinary increase in interest” in search traffic for travel to cities in the Asia-Pacific region visited on the Eras Tour.

Swift is not the only global superstar in Tokyo this week.

Lionel Messi’s Inter Miami are facing Vissel Kobe in a pre-season friendly at Tokyo’s National Stadium on Feb 7, but it was still uncertain whether the injured Argentina great would play.

With hundreds of millions of social media followers and a staunchly loyal fan base, politicos – and conspiracy theorists – have opined on Swift’s potential impact on the upcoming US presidential election.

Some right-wing critics have floated the theory that the pop icon’s burgeoning romance with Kelce is evidence of a “deep-state” plot to rig the Super Bowl and help get US President Joe Biden re-elected.

But NFL commissioner Roger Goodell has dismissed such conspiracy theories as “nonsense”. AFP

Taylor Swift threatens to sue student who tracks her private jet

Taylor Swift attends the 66th GRAMMY Awards at Crypto.com Arena on 04 February

A student who tracks the private jets of celebrities says Taylor Swift‘s lawyers have threatened to sue him for sharing her flight information online.

Jack Sweeney uses publicly available data to track the take-offs and landings of planes belonging to the wealthy and posts them one day later.

The tracking amounts to “stalking”, Swift’s lawyers claim.

In 2022, Twitter banned Mr Sweeney after Elon Musk accused him of sharing his “assassination coordinates”.

Swift’s lawyers have issued a cease-and-desist letter to Mr Sweeney, a 21-year-old student at the University of Central Florida, demanding that he stop sharing the location of her private jet.

The letter, issued in December, says that the information poses “an imminent threat to the safety and wellbeing” of Swift, calling it a “life-or-death matter” for her.

It cites numerous stalkers she has dealt with in her career, and says the data gives criminals “a roadmap to carry out their plans”.

The BBC has not independently reviewed the letter, whose contents have been reported by US media.

In a statement to the BBC, Mr Sweeney said “nowhere do I intend for harm”.

“I actually think Swift has some good songs. I believe in transparency and public information, ” he said.

He added that he received the threatening letter after media outlets began scrutinising Swift’s carbon footprint.

In 2022, Swift topped the list of celebrities with the highest private jet CO2 emissions, according to digital marketing firm Yard.

The organisation found that her jet emission were about 1,185 times more than the average person’s total annual emissions.

Last month, a 33-year-old man was arrested on stalking charges outside Swift’s home.

A spokeswoman for Swift told US media that the posts about her jet were partly to blame.

“We cannot comment on any ongoing police investigation but can confirm the timing of stalkers suggests a connection,” said spokeswoman Tree Paine.

“His posts tell you exactly when and where she would be.”

The BBC has contacted Swift’s lawyers for comment.

Swift’s travel plans have also drawn increased attention from fans in recent months due to her highly publicised concert tour.

On Sunday, she is due to fly to Las Vegas to see her boyfriend play in the NFL Super Bowl, one day after her concert in Tokyo.

Mr Sweeney’s post do not provide any information about who is traveling on the planes, or where the travellers go once they land.

He has also tracked the private flights of other wealthy Americans, including Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates, Amazon founder Jeff Bezos, and Meta chief executive Mark Zuckerberg.
