Charles Barkley Says LeBron James Should Retire “Sooner Rather Than Later”

Charles Barkley wants LeBron James to retire soon.

Speaking on ESPN Radio this week, NBA legend Charles Barkley gave some interesting advice to LeBron James on when he should hang up his jersey. According to Barkley, LeBron shouldn’t bother trying to play much longer and risk tainting his career with subpar play on the court.

“I hope he retires while he can still play,” Barkley said. “I saw Michael Jordan [play] with the [Washington] Wizards and it was not pretty. I saw Patrick Ewing with the Orlando Magic. I would love to see [LeBron James] retire sooner rather than later…because it ends badly when you keep on playing.”

It’s never easy for a player to end his basketball career, but Father Time is undefeated, and it comes for every player. Unfortunately, when it comes to the all-time greats, it can go either way on how their decline pans out. In the case of guys like Michael Jordan and Allen Iverson, we saw them as a shell of themselves at the end and it was at a point where they were almost unrecognizable from their prime basketball years.

In the case of Kobe Bryant, he remained loyal to the Lakers until the very end but his determination to keep playing resulted in some of the worst seasons of his career and it held the Lakers back for many years until his eventual retirement.

At 39 years old, it’s no secret that the end is near for LeBron and even he’s been open about this fact. But rather than go out on the decline, why should he not end things while he’s still at the top? After back-to-back losses to the Nuggets and fading durability, it seems like LeBron’s best days are already behind him and Barkley believes he’s better off ending things before he experiences a major drop-off in his game.

LeBron James Only Has A Few Years Left

After 21 seasons in the NBA, LeBron doesn’t have much longer in the NBA, and he has a big decision to make this summer as an unrestricted free agent. With the potential to join forces with his son, the 2023-24 campaign may have been LeBron’s last with the Lakers, depending on how everything shakes out.

After averaging 25.7 points, 8.3 assists, and 7.3 rebounds per game on 54% shooting this season, LeBron proved that he is still one of the best in the world and experts agree that he could still have several years left at this level of production.

But after dedicating over half of his life to the game of basketball, LeBron is ready to settle down, spend time with his family, and enjoy the luxuries of retirement after a Hall of Fame career. With so much on the line, the whole world will be watching and waiting for the King’s decision and he will have total control over his path ahead.

If he wants to avoid experiencing a sharp decline like other legends, LeBron may want to consider shutting it down as soon as possible especially since the Western Conference is only getting tougher. LeBron has nothing left to prove at this stage of his career and other NBA superstars have already begun to take over as his time has already passed.

Lakers’ Supporting Cast Falls Short of Supporting LeBron James and Anthony Davis

The Lakers lost 112-105 to the Nuggets on Thursday, proving that the eleventh time wasn’t the charm.

LeBron James & Anthony Davis Credit Rest Of Lakers For Stepping Up In Play-In Tournament Victory Over Pelicans

The plot between these two teams is as inventive as a replay of Three’s Company: even if you didn’t watch it, you can still infer the outcome.

Early in, the Lakers had a double-digit advantage. LeBron James and Anthony Davis carried the squad the entire way. In the second frame, the Nuggets gained ground.

Similar to previous season, the Nuggets already hold a dominating 3-0 lead.

The disappointing aspect of these defeats is that LeBron and AD have done the most part of their jobs. Stars have performed spectacularly in important games. James finished Game 3 with a scorching 26 points, nine rebounds, and six assists, while Davis finished with 33 points, 15 rebounds, and three assists.

LeBron James: Lakers Star Anthony Davis Has Nothing Left To Prove

That’s not enough, though, when Russell, your starting guard, scores you zero points, Hachimura manages only five, and the bench adds a few more points but is dominated on the glass and in their individual defensive duties.

During playoff games, both fans and the media can frequently focus their attention on the stars, but this series, the core surrounding James and Davis has let them down.

The Nuggets are still getting fantastic plays from Aaron Gordon, Michael Porter Jr., and Peyton Watson, while the Lakers can only rely on James and Davis to be reliable players.

At this point, that is insufficient, and no rotation choices, plans, or timeouts will make it better. As Davis and James attempt to be the two best players on the court at all times for 48 minutes, the stage begins to appear empty if the supporting cast is unable to provide any assistance.

    Anthony Davis (36 PTS) & LeBron James (37 PTS) GET BUSY! | April 12, 2024 - YouTube

After the defeat, Austin Reaves stated, “It’s really frustrating that our offense hasn’t been clicking.” “It hurts to lose. We’re losing right now, that’s all anyone should be concerned about in our locker room. That should be the only thing there is to it. Nothing else.

When the Lakers face the Nuggets, they are the Three Bears and Goldilocks.

In Game 2, D’Angelo Russell puts on a fantastic display, but Reaves finds it difficult to score. In Game 3, when Reaves scores 22 points, Russell puts up a goose egg. After making a heroic defensive effort in Game 1, Rui Hachimura disappears for the remainder of the series.

Even on a Thursday night, the problem is as evident as day, and while you can search within for solutions, whatever that can go wrong will.

Investigation Launched After Racist Poster Depicting LeBron James as a Monkey Appears at New York School Art Show

It has been claimed that a racist poster that compared Lebron James to a monkey was somehow permitted to be displayed over the weekend at a school art show in New York.

The yearly K–12 art exhibition for students in the New Hartford Central School District took place on Saturday.

However, one entry went too far since it included a picture of James front and center in an advertising for a phony cereal brand called “Monkey Premium.”

The poster featured an image of James jumping up for a dunk and said, “Eat Monkeys, Jump Like Monkeys!”

In addition, the “art” predicted that viewers would “jump 2–5 inches higher for about 2 hours after eating.”

After the story was originally reported by WIBX, New Hartford superintendent Cosimo Tangorra Jr. sent a statement to the Daily Sentinel, stating, “It is disheartening that racist work was not only created, but then overlooked and allowed to be displayed.”

Tangorra allegedly declared that an investigation had been launched into the incident in an email sent to the community on May 6.

Tangorra told the Daily Sentinel that although the student had been notified, their identity could not be made public for privacy concerns.

We acknowledge that the events that occurred may not have made certain students, families, staff, or community members feel secure, welcome, or welcomed. Tangorra stated, “Everyone in our school community should have access to a safe, supportive learning environment where they feel valued, included, and respected.”

“We need to improve as we haven’t met that objective.” As a district, we will keep trying to make sure that every student and their family feels important, and that calls for more awareness-raising, communication, and involvement from the whole school community.

LeBron James Now Says Playing With Son Bronny In The NBA ‘isn’t A Priority,’” Says ESPN NBA Insider

In a surprising turn of events that has sparked speculation among basketball fans worldwide, LeBron James has revealed that playing with his son Bronny in the NBA “isn’t a priority” for him at this time, according to an exclusive report from ESPN’s NBA insider. The revelation, made during a candid interview, has prompted intense discussion and debate about LeBron’s future plans and the potential implications for the James family legacy. Let’s delve into the details of this headline-making revelation and its significance within the basketball community.

During a recent interview with ESPN’s NBA insider, LeBron James made waves by addressing the possibility of playing alongside his son Bronny in the NBA. Contrary to previous speculation and anticipation, LeBron revealed that prioritizing the opportunity to share the court with his son “isn’t a priority” for him at this stage in his career. The candid admission marks a significant shift in LeBron’s perspective and sheds light on his evolving priorities as both a basketball player and a father.

LeBron James’ revelation underscores the delicate balance between family and career aspirations that many athletes face, particularly those with children pursuing careers in professional sports. While the prospect of playing alongside his son in the NBA has long been a source of excitement and anticipation for LeBron and basketball fans alike, the reality of balancing his own career aspirations with his son’s journey presents a complex and deeply personal dilemma. LeBron’s decision to prioritize his own career aspirations over the opportunity to play with Bronny reflects the challenges and sacrifices inherent in the pursuit of greatness.

As LeBron James continues to navigate the latter stages of his illustrious career, the question of legacy looms large. While the opportunity to play alongside his son in the NBA would undoubtedly add another chapter to LeBron’s storied career, his decision to prioritize other pursuits underscores his commitment to leaving a lasting impact on the game of basketball, both on and off the court. Whether LeBron ultimately shares the court with Bronny or not, his legacy as one of the greatest players in NBA history is secure, and his influence will continue to shape the future of the sport for generations to come.

While LeBron James’ revelation may come as a disappointment to some fans hoping to see him play alongside his son Bronny, it also opens the door to new possibilities and opportunities for the James family. As Bronny continues to hone his skills and pursue his own NBA dreams, LeBron will undoubtedly play a pivotal role in guiding and supporting his son’s journey, both as a mentor and as a father. Whatever the future holds, one thing is certain: the James family legacy will endure, leaving an indelible mark on the world of basketball for years to come.

In conclusion, LeBron James’ revelation that playing with his son Bronny in the NBA “isn’t a priority” marks a significant moment in both his career and his personal journey as a father. While the decision may come as a surprise to some, it reflects LeBron’s unwavering commitment to excellence and his willingness to make difficult choices in pursuit of his goals. As LeBron continues to chart his own path, the basketball world eagerly awaits the next chapter in the James family saga, knowing that whatever the future holds, it will be nothing short of extraordinary.

Lakers ‘Very Open’ To Drafting Bronny James So LeBron James Can Play With Him

According to NBA insiders Shams Charania, Jovan Buha and Sam Amick of The Athletic, the Los Angeles Lakers are “very open” to drafting Bronny James so LeBron James can play with his son.

NBA, Los Angeles Lakers, LeBron James, Bronny James Bronny has declared for the 2024 NBA Draft while retaining his college eligibility. He has also entered the transfer portal.

“What’s more, team sources say the Lakers are very open to the prospect of helping LeBron fulfill his dream of playing with his son Bronny by potentially drafting him,” Charania,

    Buha and Amick wrote.

Bronny averaged 4.8 points, 2.8 rebounds, 2.1 assists, 0.8 steals and 0.2 blocks for USC this season while shooting 36.6% from the field, 26.7% from beyond the arc and 67.6% from the free-throw line.

NBA, Los Angeles Lakers, LeBron James, Bronny James

LeBron can become an unrestricted free agent this summer if he declines his 2024-25 player option with the Lakers, who lost to the Denver Nuggets in the first round of the 2024 playoffs in five games.

LeBron, who turns 40 in December, is expected to play up to two more NBA seasons. He has a $51.4 million player option for the 2024-25 season. Two more seasons would take LeBron through the 2026 All-Star Weekend in Los Angeles.

LeBron appeared in 71 games for the Lakers this season. He averaged 25.7 points, 7.3 rebounds and 8.3 assists while shooting 54.0% from the field, 41.0% from beyond the arc and 75.0% from the free-throw line.

“As for his father, the Lakers want him back — badly — and the potential of the 39-year-old LeBron returning remains the most likely scenario,” Charania, Buha and Amick wrote. “Lakers owner Jeanie Buss, in particular, believes James’ return is of paramount importance to their plan. This franchise has always been buoyed by the stars, and James’ ability to still play at an elite level at his advanced age has only strengthened the desire to have him retire in a purple-and-gold jersey one day. And after six seasons together in which there has been no shortage of ups and downs, Buss and James, team sources say, have a relationship that is better than ever these days.”

LeBron joined the Lakers in the summer of 2018. LA missed the playoffs in Year 1, won the title in Year 2, lost in the first round of the playoffs in Year 3, missed the playoffs in Year 4, lost in the conference finals in Year 5 and lost in the first round of the postseason in Year 6.

Lakers’ LeBron James pinpoints reasons for blown opportunities vs. Nuggets

Lakers’ LeBron James pinpoints reasons for blown opportunities vs. Nuggets

For the second consecutive season, the Los Angeles Lakers’ championship hopes were dashed by none other than the Denver Nuggets.

Regardless of how hard LeBron James and company tried, the Nuggets seemed to have every answer.

Now, all that’s left for the Lakers to do is reflect upon how they couldn’t seem to overcome the Nuggets and how they could then be better moving forward.

That is exactly what James did in the most recent episode of his podcast with JJ Redick, “Mind the Game”. The King explained what he thought went wrong for the Lakers as they let a few winnable games slip from their fingertips.

“Obviously, going against the defending champions in the first round was always going to be a difficult challenge. We knew that coming into it. F**k, we had so many opportunities man. To lose in five, two of them being game-winners by Jamal (Murray)… his greatness …. I believe we made too many errors in some of the games,” James said.

Now, playing the what-if game is dangerous slippery slope. But LeBron James couldn’t help but think that if a few plays had gone their way, especially in Game 2 where they blew a 20-point lead and lost at the buzzer to a Jamal Murray fadeaway, the Lakers could have put up more of a fight.

“Having so many opportunities in other games, you just feel like, s**t, if one play here, one play there, could have made a hell of a difference. But when you’re playing against a team like that, you have zero room for error,” James added.

In the end, LeBron James felt like the Lakers had a chance to send the Nuggets home early, although he credits them for coming back from multiple double-digit deficits in multiple games by being the better team.

“Emotionally, I felt like we was right there. Obviously, in every game, to be able to steal a game. But at the same time, we weren’t. S**t hurts,” James said. “F**k man, a couple plays here, a couple plays there. We could’ve won the series. But the better team won. The better team won, for sure. Give credit where credit is due.”

    Lakers can’t sustain their leads

The Nuggets outscored the Lakers by a total of 39 points in the second half of games, and in all of the Nuggets’ wins in the series, a familiar story was present: Los Angeles couldn’t seem to hold on to their leads. Just to hammer home how many golden opportunities the Lakers had to get more than one win in the series against Denver, their time of lead throughout the first four games of the series was over triple than the Nuggets’.

Nuggets have a 3-1 lead, but Lakers have been up in every game this series 😮 (h/t @WorldWideWob)

It was perplexing to see the Lakers get away from what worked in the first half; credit must go to the Nuggets for mounting one comeback after another, but they shot themselves on the foot on multiple occasions. They stopped running organized offense when they were in the lead, perhaps due to fatigue, and an effect of this is that the Lakers couldn’t get the ball to Anthony Davis consistently.

The team’s lack of scoring success in the halfcourt allowed the Nuggets to push the pace, and they got easier baskets as a result. A feedback loop ensued, and thus, the Lakers choked away their leads on a consistent basis.

“I’d see some crazy a** stat about like the minutes that we were leading in the series compared to losing in the series. But we both know that’s a bit of fool’s gold because most playoff games come down to one or two, three or four possessions. If you’re not able to capitalize off those possessions or make plays during those possessions then that’s how you lose games,” James added.

There’s no need for the Lakers to overreact and overhaul their team completely after losing to the Nuggets. Perhaps better coaching and some better wing depth could help them get over the hump. Alas, a new roster-building trend appears to be upon us, and it’s not quite clear if the Lakers’ offseason trade targets would help them emerge as one of the best teams in a stacked Western Conference.

Timberwolves and Thunder create a new meta

Small-ball became the wave following the Golden State Warriors’ dominance in the mid-2010s. But the Minnesota Timberwolves and Oklahoma City Thunder are showing that skilled size is the way to go, making it even more difficult for the Lakers to try and keep up.

Switchable wings who can make plays off the bounce will be at a premium in the trade market, as the Timberwolves show that athleticism and size could help cover a ton of ground in a pace-and-space-centric NBA. The Thunder also have huge ballhandlers and a versatile center, and they have good to solid defenders at every position. This is the kind of roster the Lakers should aim to build as they try to maximize the remaining years of LeBron James’ career.

If Lebron James Teams Up With Anthony Davis And Myles Turner, Especially At The Center Position, It Will Truly Send Shivers Down The Spines Of Rival Teams In The NBA

The prospect of LeBron James teaming up with Anthony Davis and Myles Turner, particularly with Turner in the center position, indeed sends shivers down the spines of opposing teams in the NBA. Here’s why such a trio would be a formidable force on the basketball court:

LeBron James’ Versatility: LeBron James, often hailed as one of the greatest basketball players of all time, possesses a rare combination of size, skill, and basketball IQ. His ability to play multiple positions, handle the ball, score, rebound, and facilitate makes him a matchup nightmare for any defense. With his leadership on and off the court, James can elevate the performance of his teammates and orchestrate plays with precision.
Anthony Davis’ Dominance: Anthony Davis, a perennial All-Star and former NBA champion, is a force to be reckoned with on both ends of the floor. Standing at 6 feet 10 inches tall with a remarkable wingspan, Davis dominates in the paint with his scoring, shot-blocking, and rebounding prowess. His ability to stretch the floor with his outside shooting adds another dimension to his offensive game, creating space for his teammates to operate.
Myles Turner’s Defensive Presence: Myles Turner, known for his shot-blocking ability and defensive acumen, would solidify the center position in this trio. Standing at 6 feet 11 inches tall, Turner possesses the length and athleticism to protect the rim and deter opponents from driving to the basket. His ability to anchor the defense and switch onto perimeter players adds versatility and flexibility to the team’s defensive schemes.
Floor Spacing and Interior Dominance: With LeBron James’ playmaking ability and court vision, paired with Anthony Davis’ inside-outside scoring threat and Myles Turner’s defensive presence in the paint, this trio would excel in both half-court sets and transition offense. Turner’s ability to stretch the floor with his outside shooting would open up driving lanes for James and Davis, while also providing additional spacing for perimeter shooters.
Defensive Versatility: Defensively, LeBron James, Anthony Davis, and Myles Turner would form a formidable trio capable of switching, rotating, and protecting the rim with their length, athleticism, and basketball IQ. Their ability to communicate and cover ground effectively would disrupt opposing offenses and create transition opportunities for easy baskets.

In summary, the combination of LeBron James, Anthony Davis, and Myles Turner would indeed be a “scary good” lineup in the NBA, blending offensive firepower, defensive prowess, and basketball IQ to create a formidable force capable of contending for championships.

NBA star Stephen Curry’s little sister Sydel Curry-Lee is forging her own path.

The youngest of three siblings, Sydel was born in 1994 into a basketball family. Her father, Dell Curry, played in the NBA for nearly two decades, while her older brothers Stephen and Seth are both professional basketball players.

“People underestimating me is pretty much my life from the moment I started playing sports to now,” the former college volleyball player told Togethxr in 2020. When she walked around her college campus, she heard her classmates whispering, “Oh, that’s Steph Curry’s sister.”

But since graduating from Elon University in 2017, Sydel has pursued many interests, including running a lifestyle blog, launching a podcast and advocating for mental health. She is also a wife to NBA player Damion Lee and a soon-to-be mother of two.

“I feel like I’ve done a really good job at creating my own person and creating my own identity outside of my brothers,” she said.

Sydel still has the support of her big brothers though. When she told Steph and his wife Ayesha Curry that she was pregnant with her first child in 2021, the two screamed in pure excitement, as seen in a video shared by the Golden State Warriors. Both of her brothers also served as groomsmen at her 2018 wedding.

So, who is Stephen Curry’s sister? Here’s everything to know about Sydel Curry-Lee.

    Sydel Curry Instagram

While Sydel didn’t follow in her family’s footsteps when it came to basketball, she did play volleyball at Elon University from 2014 to 2016. She was redshirted as a freshman due to a dislocated knee cap and started playing in 2014.

She was underestimated a lot during college, Sydel recalled, with some people even questioning her talent. “I remember one of the first things I ever heard when I was playing volleyball is, ‘You’re only here because of your family.’ “

Sydel was named the team’s MVP in 2016, the same year she was named NCCSIA First Team All-State. However, she retired from volleyball in 2017 after an injury.

“I have dedicated so much of my life, my identity, to my sport. As an athlete and a competitor, I will always want to put my sport before a lot of things,” she wrote on Facebook. “I never thought that my first grown-up decision about my future would be something so difficult.”

She graduated with a degree in psychology the same year.

    Sydel Curry Instagram

Sydel is using her platform for good. She’s very open on her Instagram account and on her own blog, “A Curry Girl,” about her own struggles with mental health.

“I’ve always had a passion for mental health, not that I’ve had to deal with it on my own. I’ve always been curious about the mind and helping others but I really want, literally in a sense, to save lives,” she told Essence in 2020. “We’ve seen in the past week or so how many people have taken their lives because [they were] at a point in their life that they thought it’s never going to get better. So with my brand called A Curry Girl and the platform that I have, that’s all I want to do is just change the stigma behind [people] being not being able to speak about how you’re feeling and not being in a culture where social media is just about jokes and people not taking other people seriously.”

In May 2021, Sydel launched a podcast called Because Life, which “aims to de-stigmatize the discussion around mental health and offer first-hand advice on how we can all discuss the subject better as well as things we can do to improve our mental health,” per the podcast’s description.

Recently in March 2023, she spoke to Ferrum College about the importance of mental health. “Dusted off my speechin’ skills and spoke to @ferrum_college students today! I left feeling so encouraged by the progress that’s being made in colleges and universities by creating safe spaces for students to feel seen and heard in their mental health journeys,” she wrote on Instagram.

Sydel and her now-husband Damion Lee, who plays for the Phoenix Suns, met at a college basketball game while she was at Elon University and he was a student at Drexel University.

“He was walking up the stairs, I was sitting in the stands and we kind of made eye contact,” she told Munaluchi Bride. After exchanging DMs and going on a few dates, they officially became a couple.

As for the proposal, Sydel explained she had one requirement. “My one wish for a proposal was to have all my family in the same room when the time came. He planned it on a weekend that both of our families would be in town for different reasons.”

The pair got married on Sept. 1, 2018, in Charlotte, North Carolina. Steph’s wife Ayesha served as her matron of honor while his daughters were flower girls.

The day after the wedding Sydel shared photos on her Instagram along with a special message for her husband: “I love this man more than words can tell but now i get to live my life showing it and telling him every day! I have tons of people to thank but right now, I just need to relish in the fact that I have found my soulmate, we are now one, and I am Mrs. Lee!!!!!”

As a wedding gift, Steph gave his sister something pretty special. He had the women’s volleyball locker room at Elon University named after her.

“Just want to say congratulations on getting married this weekend, that’s a big occasion, I know it’s crazy,” Steph said in a video message. “But we also want to congratulate you on an amazing career at Elon playing volleyball, all you did for the school and the program, and wanted to give it back to you with the new locker room for Sydel Curry.”

    Sydel Curry Instagram

On Nov. 26, 2021, Sydel and Lee welcomed a baby boy, Daxon Wardell-Xavier Lee.

“No words are enough to describe the bliss of having my sweet son here. We are in newborn bliss and soaking in every single moment,” she wrote on Instagram.

Ahead of Daxon’s birth, Sydel shared photos of her nursery exclusively with PEOPLE. “We want this to be his place of solace, a safe space for him to rest and feel at home,” she shared, while her husband added, “It’s a great space for us to get away from all the distractions of the outside world and focus on our baby.”

And following their baby’s arrival, the new parents opened up about keeping the spark alive in their marriage on Sydel’s podcast, calling it “very hard.”

“Someone gave us the advice to do the deed for a whole month. Like every day of the month. We got to day like 15 and we were like, no,” she shared. “I think that’s a very hard thing to do. I don’t think it happens a lot in relationships … I haven’t met anyone who has kept the spark the whole time while trying to conceive because it’s such a mental thing.”

    Sydel Curry Instagram

Sydel isn’t just a basketball fan, she’s also a self-proclaimed Swiftie. She shared a photo of herself on Instagram at the first night of the Eras Tour in Glendale, Arizona.

“Went for Paramore, left invested if Betty ever took James back! #erastour Hayley Williams is EVERYTHING & Taylor just did the dang thing! A 3 1/2 hour set is unreal and she didn’t miss at all! Thanks @ryanquint_ for the invite!”

On March 21, 2023, Sydel shared a video on Instagram revealing she and Lee were expecting their second child together alongside the caption, “August 2023 💖For this child we have prayed!”

A few weeks later, she shared a close-up of her bump and wrote, “What a privilege it is to see you grow. To feel you move. To imagine what who you’ll look like. Who you’ll act like. My precious little one. Take your time but we are ready for you.”

The jersey, worn by Jordan during the 1992 Olympic Games in Barcelona as a member of the legendary ‘Dream Team,’ holds a special place in basketball history. However, its true significance extends far beyond its association with one of the greatest teams ever assembled. According to Jordan, the jersey’s remarkable value is not merely a reflection of its provenance or historical significance, but rather a testament to the blood, sweat, and tears that went into its creation.

Jordan revealed that the jersey’s hefty price tag is due in large part to the sweat-soaked fabric, which bears witness to the intense physical exertion and unwavering determination that defined the ‘Dream Team’s’ quest for Olympic gold. Each drop of sweat, he explained, represents a moment of sacrifice and dedication, a reminder of the relentless pursuit of excellence that propelled the team to victory.
