Michael Jordan is the fourth-leading scorer in the history of the NBA, and he twice averaged more than 35 points per game over the course of an entire season. During an appearance on Katie Nolan’s Garbage Time, Heat legend Alonzo Mourning said that he believes if Jordan, in his prime, played today under the current NBA rules, he’d average 50 points per game.
“He’d probably average almost 50 a game. I mean, he really would because you wouldn’t be able to touch him on the perimeter, so he’d be shooting a ton of free throws.”
There’s no question that Jordan would be one of the best players in the league if he played today, but Mourning may be exaggerating a little. Jordan actually did shoot a ton of free throws during his career in the ’80s and ’90s, so the boost from the line in today’s game probably wouldn’t bring his scoring average near 50.
In 1987 and 1988 Jordan had more than 10 attempts from the line per game, and averaged 8.2 free throw attempts per game for his career. Only three players in the NBA — James Harden, Russell Westbrook and DeMarcus Cousins — take more than eight free throws per game this season.
If Jordan was in a Russell Westbrook-type situation where he would be the only offensive threat on the team and could take an unlimited amount of shots, he would no doubt put up gaudy offensive numbers — but that isn’t an effective way to win basketball games in the long run.
Mourning also said that it’s impossible to compare Jordan and LeBron James, simply because the game has changed so much.
“It’s not the same game. I would have loved to see LeBron play in the ’90s, in the early ’90s late ’80s.”

The Chicago Bulls have been known as an organization that will keep things together, especially in recent years when declining to part with players at the trade deadline, and it seems like that will be the case this year, especially when it comes to players like Zach LaVine and DeMar DeRozan, according to Darnell Mayberry of The Athletic.
Few within or around the Bulls anticipate the franchise making a major move before the NBA Trade Deadline on Feb. 8, according to Mayberry. It is not that the Bulls can not make a trade, but the belief is that the front office will not commit to something substantial.
Regarding Zach LaVine, the Bulls’ most talented and highest-paid player, they are reportedly drawing little to no interest, according to Mayberry. They might be stuck paying DeMar DeRozan and Nikola Vucevic as well. Alex Caruso is a player the Bulls could get value for, as he is arguably the most attractive asset on the roster, but the team seems to be clinging to him, according to Mayberry.
The Bulls are currently 22-26, and have been dealing with a significant amount of injuries. They are currently ninth in the Eastern Conference, and could be destined to similar fate as last season, which was the NBA Play-In tournament. Despite that, the Bulls are seemingly keeping the band together.
It will be interesting to see if anyone offers the Bulls something that would be attractive enough to veer from what recent reports indicate. As of now, it seems like there will be no major moves.

There was that brief moment in 2023 when Michael Jordan’s old home was a sore point once more. Added to his difficulties in trying to sell the famous Highland Park mega-mansion, the uninhabited residence had a break-in in April 2023. It appears members of the Jordan family can look back on that incident with a slight degree of humor in 2024. Credit for that goes to one social media gaffe.
Instagram page, ‘Nicekicks’ shared the news with the caption, “At this rate, MJ is never gonna sell this place,” on January 31. It accompanied a video that was not well-thought out. Apart from the first panel of Google Image search results regarding the mansion and it’s recognizable #23 gate, the supposed inside view was not of the actual Jumpman mansion.
That was confirmed by the former resident, Marcus Jordan himself who grew up on this estate. “lol this definitely ain’t the crib,” he commented.
The mansion is reportedly valued at $29 million. But it reeks of His Airness so much, he hasn’t been able to sell it leading him to come down as low as $14.9 million. The home still remains on the market with no buyers.
The video came from another Instagram page of someone supposedly touring the billionaire’s 56,000 sq.ft. property. The inaccurate video showed supposed flooded basketball courts and Marcus’ alleged childhood home which still has a Hello Kitty book lying around.

Yet, that is what Sonya Curry is doing with her brave and heartfelt memoir Fierce Love, and what makes this even better is the fact she’s getting to celebrate in a special way with her son Steph.
As part of Stephen’s ongoing collaboration with Literati, where he chooses one book each month for his UNDERRATED Book Club, Steph’s September pick is none other than his mother’s Fierce Love, and to celebrate this month’s pick and hear more from the author herself, Stephen sat down for the first time as host of the Literati “Ask The Author” conversation to ask Sonya about her journey writing the memoir.

And here’s our exclusive Q&A with Sonya. ONE37pm: Sonya, congratulations on the release of Fierce Love! Could you just walk us through the process of writing this book?
Curry: I was fortunate enough to acquire an awesome agent who then orchestrated interviews for ghostwriters. I then chose a ghostwriter who I felt listened more than talked and was committed to allowing my voice to be heard!
I then was fortunate enough to have several publishers interested in the book and along the same vein as my ghostwriter, I found a publishing company that was committed to ensuring that my message was shared rather than Being interested in curating their own story/narrative regarding my family!
ONE37pm: What made you decide to write this book and share your story with the world?
Curry: Writing a book has been a passion of mine for almost 10 years now. It initially started off as an idea related to how my children ended up at the colleges they chose. I wanted the world to see how God‘s hand was in every ounce of their journeys! I wanted to share with the world how faithful God is. If we just seek him, he will direct our paths! Things may not always end up the way that we want them to but when we are following God‘s plans for our lives they always work out for our best!
But as you will read in the book, the stories that are shared include glimpses into my childhood and how I was raised, to the influence of the Montessori education on our parenting, and our spiritual journeys individually as well as a collective unit and family! After a lot of encouragement from many people who I met through basketball as well as parents at my school, I decided to take the leap and start the process after my retirement from Christian Montessori school. The book became what’s the next chapter of my life!
