LeBron James heaps praise on Victor Wembanyama after his impressive 5×5 performance, saying there is ‘no ceiling’ for the Spurs rookie: ‘That kid is SPECIAL!!’

LeBron James was full of praise for ‘special’ Victor Wembanyama on Friday night after the Spurs rookie became the youngest player ever to post a 5×5 game.

Despite San Antonio’s 123-118 loss to the Lakers, Wembanyama wowed as he posted 27 points, 10 rebounds, eight assists, five blocks and five steals.

And James gushed over the French 20-year-old after the game, writing ‘That kid is SPECIAL!!’ on X and claiming ‘he doesn’t have a ceiling’ to reporters.

‘He can do whatever he wants to do in his career,’ James said. ‘It seems like he enjoys the game.

‘It seems like he puts the work in, just from the outside looking in I said a long time ago how special he was, and it’s literally that simple.’

Wembanyama finished the game with 27 points, 10 rebounds and five blocks

James also posted a picture of he and Wembanyama to Instagram, captioning the photo with an alien emoji and crown emoji.

Lakers coach Darvin Ham also complimented the rookie after the game.

‘The thing that impresses me the most about him – he’s uber-talented, multi-faceted, highly skilled, but I think his biggest trait and quality that you can’t teach or coach is his competitive nature,’ Ham said.

‘He’s a competitive kid and he makes winning plays all the time. You see how he plays with his teammates. He’s trying to make the right play whether it’s for himself or for the others that’s out there with him, and defensively, chasing down shots, changing shots, blocking shots, coming up with strong rebounds.’

 

Despite his strong individual performance, Wembanyama couldn’t help but focus on the fact that his team lost.

‘I wonder if [Jordan] did it in wins, not losses,’ he said after joining Michael Jordan in posting consecutive games of five steals and five blocks.

‘To me, it’s secondary… As of today, I can’t be satisfied with a loss.’

Wembanyama’s 5×5 is just the 15th such game in NBA history.

He is averaging 20.6 points, 10.1 rebounds and a league-leading 3.3 blocks per game this season.

ESPN currently has Bronny projected to get picked at No 39 in the 2025 NBA Draft.

After On3 and NBACentral made posts about the projection, ESPN NBA Draft analyst Jonathan Givony reached out to clarify the reason behind Bronny’s placement.

‘I know that accuracy isn’t a big thing for you guys, but he hasn’t been on the 2024 mock draft since his heart issue in July,’ Givony posted.

Bronny drew a lot of attention – not only as LeBron’s eldest son but also -as a star at Sierra Canyon through high school. Shortly after committing to the Trojans, the freshman suffered a cardiac arrest while working out with the team over the summer.

After the health scare, Bronny suited up for his USC debut in December against Long Beach State, where he tallied four points, three rebounds, two assists, and two steals in 17 minutes off the bench.

He currently averages 5.5 points, 2.8 rebounds, and 2.5 assists as the Trojans sit 11th in the Pac-12 with an 11-16 record.

While in his 21st season in the NBA, James has openly expressed his desire to play with his son in the league.

LeBron James Now 9 Points Away From Becoming NBA’s First 40K-Point Scorer

James will likely make history on Sunday.

 

After another impressive showing from Los Angeles Lakers superstar LeBron James, he is just a few points after from reaching another legendary milestone. James scored 31 points against the Washington Wizards to help the team get the win, inching him closer to the 40,000-point mark across his 21 NBA regular seasons. He currently has 39,991.

No player has come close to this accomplishment, and James is now only nine points away. Barring anything major happening, James will break the 40K mark on Sunday against the Denver Nuggets.

What James has accomplished in his career is nothing short of incredible, and his longevity speaks to that. He has dominated the NBA for over 20 years and is still going strong in year 21 of his career.

He is arguably the greatest basketball player of all time, adding more to his resume with each passing day. Hitting the 40K tally will be a special moment considering he will stand alone as the only player to do so.

It’s taken him this long to reach this point, with strong play each season. If anyone is to surpass him down the line, it would take another herculean effort of a career

Of course, the biggest thing on James’ mind is getting the team set up for the stretch run. While these individual accomplishments are awesome for him, he is all about winning titles.

After more than two decades in the NBA, LeBron James had a career first Thursday morning when he forced Stephen A. Smith to issue a public apology.

 

Earlier this week on ESPN’s First Take, Smith predicted the Los Angeles Clippers would “bust” the Los Angeles Lakers’ “a**” Wednesday night. And for three quarters, Smith was right. But in the fourth quarter, LeBron put the Lakers on his back and erased a 21-point deficit to beat the Clippers, garnering an apology from Stephen A. Smith.

Earlier this week, Stephen A. Smith told Shannon Sharpe the Clippers were going to bust the Lakers’ ass. The Lakers proceeded to overcome a 21-point deficit to beat the Clippers on Wednesday night.

“I don’t do this often,” Smith said Thursday morning on First Take. “I really, really don’t. But I owe LeBron James an apology. I just do.”

“To watch him drilling those threes, to know he’s in his 21st season, he’s 39 years of age,” Smith boasted of LeBron’s comeback win. “You know I’m MJ all day every day, but to see this brother do what he did last night…when it counted most he was absolutely spectacular.”

Well, now LeBron can finally sleep at night. The Lakers star has two Olympic gold medals, four NBA championships, 21 All-Star appearances, the all-time scoring record and he’s on the cusp of surpassing 40,000 career points. But all of it must pale in comparison to getting an apology from Stephen A. Smith.

As Smith noted, he doesn’t do this often. Surely, Smith will claim that’s because he doesn’t make claims or say things deserving of an apology. Zion Williamson and the New Orleans Pelicans might disagree.
