LeBron James’s Former Miami Mansion Scores a Buyer for $18.5 Million

The home, which sold in less than a month after hitting the market, still has custom wallpaper the NBA star added to the property’s guest house

 

The Miami mansion that was once home to basketball star LeBron James—and that still retains the custom-branded wallpaper he installed—has just sold for $18.5 million.

The nearly half-acre property, in the chic Coconut Grove community, changed hands earlier this month. The buyers, according to property records, are entrepreneur John Lie-Nielsen and his wife, Darling Lie-Nielsen.

The property was on the market for less than a month, said listing agent Jason Zarco of Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices EWM Realty.

“It sold very quickly because, even though it’s hard to believe, for $20 million in Miami on the open bay, you don’t get much,” Zarco said. “And this house is in immaculate condition, has spectacular views and has great entertaining spaces. Such properties don’t exist at this price.”

The estate runs 80 feet along the waterfront on Biscayne Bay and is defined by a private gate and a coral-wrapped wall. Besides the main house, there’s a guest house over the three-car garage.

Other amenities include a private dock, a heated pool with a swim-up bar, a gym, a spa with a steam and sauna and a ground-floor entertainment lounge with billiards and poker tables.

It’s hard to tell where the backyard ends and the bay begins.

The 13,930-square-foot main house, which was built in 2010 and has floor-to-ceiling windows in the main living areas, six bedrooms, eight full bathrooms, one half bath, an elevator, a wine cellar, a theater, a living room with a bar and an office/library.

Zarco said that the most unusual feature of the property is the wallpaper the NBA star put up in the guest house. “It features golden crowns and his initials: LJ,” he said.

John Lie-Nielsen is the founder and CEO of Coconut Grove-based One Park Financial, which provides small- and mid-sized businesses access to working capital. The Lie-Nielsens didn’t immediately respond to an email requesting comment.

James bought the property for $9 million in 2010, when he was playing for the Miami Heat,  and sold it in 2015, for $13.4 million, according to published reports, after he returned to the Cleveland Cavaliers, where he started his NBA career.

In 2021, it was bought by Jeff Conry, the former CEO of iAero Airways, and his wife, Sherianne Conry, for $12.75 million, according to property records.

James bought the property for $9 million in 2010, when he was playing for the Miami Heat.

The final moments of Saturday’s clash at Staples Center in Los Angeles, California seemed to last an eternity.

It wasn’t helped by a string of replay reviews – one of which resulted in the Lakers losing points.

With 1:50 to play and Los Angeles down by four points, coach Darvin Ham challenged an out-of-bounds call.

The Warriors were given possession after Jaxson Hayes and Andrew Wiggins both went for a rebound.

Ham won the challenge and a jump ball was called for by officials.

But, while that play was being reviewed, so was another one from earlier.

Officials determined that James stepped out of bounds on a three-point shot with 2:07 to play.

So, although the Lakers won the out-of-bounds challenge, they ended up having three points chalked off the board.

“I’ve never seen that be called before like that in that particular time,” James admitted afterwards.

“That was kind of weird. It took some momentum away from us.

“I didn’t believe I stepped on the line, obviously. I knew how much space I had over there.

“And when I shoot, I shoot on my tippy toes, so it’s kind of hard for me to have a heel down.”

Crew chief David Guthrie explained the little-known rule after Saturday’s incident-packed game.

He said, “James’ left foot is out of bounds as he begins to shoot.

“Yes, it is reviewable at that time. The rule is Rule 13, Section II(f)(3): Whether the shooter committed a boundary line violation, the replay center official will only look at the position of the player’s feet at the moment they touch the floor immediately prior to the release of the shot.

“This can be applied during other replay triggers as well.”

Golden State went on to secure a 128-121 victory to leapfrog Los Angeles into ninth place in the Western Conference.

On Saturday night, the teams played a game that simply wouldn’t finish.

The final 2 minutes, 7 seconds of the Warriors’ 128-121 victory over the Lakers took about 22 minutes to play, bogged down due to a pair of lengthy replay reviews — one that overturned an apparent 3-pointer by LeBron James — and then a malfunctioning shot clock.

“It seems like a few times a year you get clock issues. That’s as extreme as I’ve been a part of, where even the backup unit doesn’t work,” Kerr said. “The last two minutes, everyone is looking at each other about what to do.”

The craziness began when James hit a 3-pointer from the corner to pull the Lakers within 124-120. On the ensuing trip down the floor, Stephen Curry missed a 3-pointer and there was a battle for the ball as it went out of bounds with 1:50 left.

Officials awarded the ball to Golden State, but the Lakers challenged who touched the ball last. At the same time, the NBA’s replay center in Secaucus, New Jersey, was reviewing if James was inbounds during his shot.

The Lakers won their challenge, when it was determined that there was a simultaneous touch before the ball went out of bounds. But James’ 3-pointer was nullified when it was determined his left foot was out of bounds as he began to shoot.

“I’ve never seen that called before like that, at that particular time. It was kind of weird but it took the momentum away from us,” said James, who scored 40 points. “I didn’t believe I stepped on the line. I knew how much space I had over there. And when I shoot, I shoot on my tippy toes. So, it’s kind of hard for me to have a heel down.”

Crew chief David Guthrie said in a pool report that the review on James’ shot was initiated during the first stoppage in play.

“The replay center official will only look at the position of the player’s feet at the moment they touch the floor immediately prior to the release of the shot. This can be applied during other replay triggers as well,” said Guthrie in citing Rule 13, Section II(f)(3) of the NBA rulebook.

Even though the reversal ended up benefitting his team, Kerr said he would prefer made baskets like James’ not being reviewed and for replay only to be utilized for shots at the end of the quarter.

“I think we’re trying so hard to get everything just right, but at the expense of the flow,” Kerr said. “Who cares if the guy’s foot is half an inch on the line? Is that worth going back 45 seconds and changing everything? The whole goal with replay is trying to get everything right but there are hundreds of plays every night that are subjective. We’re never going to get everything right.”

Stephen Curry, though. had a unique view about the reversal when he said: “Any time you can extend the lead without doing anything is nice.”

After a challenge on another out of bounds play, the shot clock then malfunctioned with 1:35 remaining. The Lakers tried to put the ball in play four times, but officials immediately blew the whistle when they saw the shot clock wasn’t working.

After a nearly 10-minute delay, with fans booing during the lengthy break, the PA announcer counted down the shot clock at key intervals.

“I watch a lot of golf. I don’t know if they were doing playing through or running commercials while waiting for the game to come back on. It probably wasn’t the greatest for TV,” Curry said.

Unfortunately, a challenge to an out-of-bounds play not only led the game to be delayed for over 20 minutes, it also rescinded a prior corner three-pointer by the King, leading to a loss of points for Los Angeles.

In the end, the Warriors’ win helped them secure the ninth spot in the West as the team’s record rose to 35 wins and 31 losses. The Lakers, meanwhile, is in 10th place with a 36-32 record.
