LeBron James Addresses Report That Bronny Will Enter Transfer Portal

LeBron James led the Los Angeles Lakers to a road win over the Toronto Raptors on Tuesday night. While discussing the victory, which was the Lakers’ seventh win in eight games, James weighed in on the future of his eldest son Bronny at USC.

Dick Weiss of the NY Daily News reported Tuesday that Bronny is set to enter the transfer portal following his freshman season with the Trojans. LeBron didn’t confirm or deny the possibility of Bronny continuing his college basketball career elsewhere, though he did address the situation with reporters.

“I don’t know where it came from, but at the end of the day, Bronny’s his own man and he has some tough decisions to make. When he’s ready to make those decisions he’ll let us all know, but as his family we’re going to support whatever he does,” James said (via Dave McMenamin of ESPN).

    — Dave McMenamin (@mcten) April 3, 2024

Bronny spent his freshman year coming off the bench for the Trojans, averaging 4.8 points, 2.8 rebounds and 2.1 assists across 25 games, including six starts.

He missed the first eight games of the season after suffering cardiac arrest during an offseason workout at USC in July. He was eventually cleared to play and made his college basketball debut in a game against Long Beach State in December, during which he played 16 minutes and scored four points.

Although James didn’t say whether Bronny would be entering the transfer portal, he did make it clear that his son has some important decisions looming.

The spotlight always seems to shine on Bronny James — whether the 19-year-old wants it to or not. The eldest son of NBA legend LeBron James, expectation and hype have followed Bronny since junior high school, and his commitment to join the USC Trojans basketball team was highly-publicized. But Bronny’s freshman season did not go according to plan — and his basketball future is up in the air, as a result.

Bronny suffered a cardiac arrest over the summer that delayed the start of his NCAA career. After posting stats that were below expectation as a freshman — and with his role uncertain following the departure of the Trojans’ head coach — Bronny has made a decision that could cause an earthquake in men’s college basketball.

According to reports Tuesday night, Bronny James is heading into the transfer portal, as he intends to leave USC and play at another school in 2024/25.

Bronny, a 6’4” guard, averaged 4.8 points on 37 percent shooting in 25 games this season. He played 19 minutes per game as USC limped to a 15-18 season, missing the NCAA Tournament. James slid in mock NBA drafts throughout the year, and LeBron angrily tweeted a defense of his son in February that was blasted in the media.

A logical choice for Bronny would be to transfer to Ohio State, where LeBron has close ties dating to his childhood. The Buckeyes missed the tournament this season and hired a new head coach in Jake Diebler, although it is unknown as to whether Bronny likes the option of moving to Columbus — or when he will make his transfer decision.

Bronny was recruited to USC by Andy Enfield, who has left his post as the Trojans’ head coach to take the same job at Southern Methodist University in Texas. Enfield’s departure was likely the final straw for Bronny as he sorted through his difficult first season of college ball.

Enfield spent 11 seasons at USC and posted a 220-146 record with five NCAA Tournament appearances. He guided the Trojans to the Elite Eight in 2021, but the program did not make it past the tournament’s first weekend in any of its other appearances. The 2023/24 campaign was USC’s first losing season since 2018/19.

The story behind Jimmy Butler’s meaningful pink shoes at Game 3 NBA Playoffs

Amid the stress and busyness of the NBA Playoffs series, Jimmy Butler still took some time to send emotional support to the family of his former Minnesota Timberwolves teammate Tyus Jones.

Jimmy Butler left a clear mark in the Philadelphia 76ers’ 116-95 victory over the Toronto Raptors in Game 3 of the Eastern NBA Playoffs series last Friday. Excellent at both ends of the court, the striker wearing shirt number 23 almost achieved a triple-double with 22 points along with 9 rebounds, 9 assists and 3 steals.

On a sublime day of play for the Sixers, under Jimmy Butler’s feet were a pair of bright pink Air Jordan 32 Lows. Sometimes NBA players still like to wear unique color combinations on the court to express their personality, but these pink shoes of Jimmy have a very special meaning.

Jimmy Butler’s message: “Mama Jones, we will fight together”

On Jimmy Butler’s shoes is a message and its meaning is moral support for Ms. Debbie, the mother of Butler’s former Minnesota Timberwolves teammate Tyus Jones.

In a recent share of Tyus on social networks, he informed his fans that his beloved mother was diagnosed with malignant breast cancer. This is what makes many people feel sad, including my close friend Jimmy Butler.

To mentally support Ms. Debbie as well as Tyus Jones’ family, Butler searched through the shoe cabinet and found this pair of Air Jordan 32 Low in “Hot Pink” colorway. In the US, pink is often chosen to symbolize breast cancer prevention campaigns, enough to see how carefully Jimmy Butler calculated this shoe choice.

Recognizing Jimmy Butler’s actions, Tyus Jones, on behalf of his family and mother Debbie, shared his thanks via social network Instagram:

Although this is just a very simple operation, the impact that Butler brings with these special shoes is enormous.

In his next appearance, Jimmy Butler and his teammates will enter Game 4 against the Toronto Raptors in a match taking place on Monday morning, May 6. The series score is currently 2-1 with the lead in favor of the Philadelphia 76ers.

Perhаps the Jаzz were wаry of theіr tormentor fіndіng аn oрen teаmmаte іf they doubled eаrly. Thаt’s whаt hаppened іn the рrevious Fіnals when Jordаn found Steve Kerr unguаrded аfter John Stoсkton rotаted. The ѕharpѕhooter’ѕ bіg ѕhot reѕulted іn Chіcago defeаting Utаh іn Gаme 6 to сlinсh the 1997 Fіnals.

Lіttle dіd the Jаzz know thаt MJ hаd no іntentіon of lettіng аnother teаmmаte tаke the glory іn the tіtle remаtch. Stoсkton аnd Kаrl Mаlone trіed to рack the рaint when he ѕtarted аttаcking off the drіbble, but they рrobably dіdn’t exрect Jordаn to ѕtep bаck аfter а ѕlight рush on Ruѕѕell.

Whаt іf Jordаn mіssed the gаme-winner?

Stіll, іt would hаve been іnterestіng to wаtch whаt would hаve hаppened іf “Hіs Aіrness” сlanked the jumрer.

It lіkely would hаve led to Utаh hаnging on for the wіn аnd the ѕerieѕ gettіng extended to а ѕeventh meetіng, whіch would hаve been unсhartered terrіtory for Jordаn. Whіle he hаd рlayed іn three Gаme 7ѕ іn hіs сareer, wіnnіng two of them аnd аverаging 33.7 рoints, 7.7 reboundѕ, аnd 7.0 аssists рer сontest, he never hаd to go thаt fаr іn hіs ѕix Fіnals аppeаrаnces.

If the 1998 ѕerieѕ went the dіstance, the Jаzz сould hаve hаd the oррortunity to wіn the frаnchise’s fіrst сhampionship аt home. But let’ѕ not kіd ourѕelveѕ. Jordаn lіkely would hаve ѕtill found wаys to leаd the Bullѕ to the tіtle аnd аdded аnother сhapter to hіs legаcy.
