LeBron James issues blunt demand to Lakers after Nuggets’ Game 1 drubbing

Despite Anthony Davis’s 32 points and LeBron James’ 27, the Los Angeles lakers fell 114-103 to the Denver Nuggets in game 1 of their first round series in the NBA Playoffs.

After the game, LeBron spoke to the media and made it clear what the Lakers, and any team with championship aspirations, needs to do.

Said the Lakers superstar, “I’ve never played on a championship team that didn’t pay attention to detail. There’s no if, ands or buts about it. You have to.”

If anyone can speak to this, it’s LeBron. James has won championships not just with the Lakers, but with the Miami Heat and Cleveland Cavaliers. He knows what is required to make it through the gauntlet that is the NBA Playoffs, and that attention to detail is a massive part of that.

The Lakers didn’t seem to have issues paying attention to detail in their Game 1 loss to the Nuggets, committing a reasonable 12 turnovers and 15 fouls. Their issues centered more around the fact that they shot 27.6 percent from the 3-point line and that no one apart from James and Davis was able to make a difference offensively.

But against a team like the Nuggets that can break opponents down methodically with their passing – both in the halfcourt and on the break – and also that features Nikola Jokic, the Lakers will need to be crisp in every facet of the game if they’re going to have a chance in this series. That means passing, generating quality shots, defensive rotations and closing out shooters, boxing out. All of it.

Jokic had 32 points and 12 rebounds for the Nuggets in their opening game win over the Lakers.

The Nuggets swept the Lakers in last season’s Western Conference finals, the next-to-last step the Nuggets had to clear before claiming their first NBA title. Los Angeles hasn’t beaten the Nuggets since Dec. 16, 2022. They’ll try again Monday night in Game 2 at Ball Arena, where Denver is now 34-8 this season.

In Saturday’s game, balanced team play was the difference.

Outside of James and Davis, the Lakers struggled to get anything going. D’Angelo Russell struggled to a 6-20 shooting night. Rui Hachimura only managed seven points in 31 minutes. Spencer Dinwiddie went scoreless. If the Lakers want to hang in against the Nuggets in this series, their role players will need to do a better job stepping up the rest of the way.

On the other end, while Denver is clearly led by Jokic, they managed to get contributions up and down the lineup.

Aside from their star center, two other Nuggets players posted double-doubles — Jamal Murray (22 points, 10 assists) and Aaron Gordon (12 points, 11 rebounds) — and Michael Porter Jr. came close with 19 points and eight boards of his own.

The Lakers look to get even against Denver on Monday night in Game 2.

HOF Coасh Cаllѕ Current NBA Plаyer The GOAT, And It’ѕ Not LeBron Jаmeѕ

Former NBA head coach George Karl chimed in on the league’s GOAT debate.

He believes a current player in the league is the greatest player he’s ever seen, and that star isn’t LeBron James.

James is currently facing the Denver Nuggets against two-time MVP Nikola Jokic.

After Game 1 of the Lakers versus Nuggets matchup in the first round, Karl shared his opinion.

With his decades of viewing and coaching basketball, Karl believes Jokic is the best player he’s ever seen. Jokic finished Game 1 of the series with 32 points and 14 rebounds.

Jokic has taken the league by storm the past couple of seasons. He’s already secured an NBA title for Denver, proving he can produce at a high level.

He’s undoubtedly one of the best players in the current NBA landscape, but the greatest in league history is questionable. Jokic will continue to work through his NBA resume, attempting to put his name at the top of the league’s tier list.

”I’ve been around hoops for 50 years and I’ve seen a lot of incredible players, including Connie, Julius, Michael, Tim, Shaq, KAJ, Kobe and LBJ. But, at this point, I’m thinking Jokic may be the best player I’ve ever seen play basketball,” said Karl, via X.

LeBron James frustrated with the Lakers after their loss in Denver

LeBron James’ competitiveness has helped him break records and change organizations into winners.

At 39 years old, James knows that his remaining time in the NBA is limited — one reason, perhaps, as to why he was so frustrated when his Los Angeles Lakers lost to the Denver Nuggets again on Saturday night.

Despite boasting a halftime lead at Ball Arena, James and the Lakers went cold in the second half of their 2024 playoff opener and watched as Nikola Jokic led second-seeded Denver to a 114-103 comeback victory.

Seventh-seeded Los Angeles did not want to fall in a hole in the first round — and James lamented the Lakers’ inability to get the job done against a team that has tortured them in recent meetings.

LeBron James proves GOAT status after getting called “trash” by his son Bryce

    LeBron talks details
Speaking to reporters late on Saturday night, James said that the Lakers have to commit themselves to greater focus and attention to the little things. The 21-year veteran said that all four of his championship rings were won by observing those details that Los Angeles let get away in Game 1 of this first-round series.

James was the target of criticism himself for taking just six shots in the second half as the Lakers squandered a 60-57 lead built up over the first 24 minutes. Los Angeles’ turnovers became an issue, especially as Denver hardly turned the ball over at all (six turnovers to the Lakers’ 12), while the visitors were outrebounded 49-40 overall and 15-6 on the offensive glass. Against the defending NBA champions, James knows that effort wasn’t quite good enough.

    Opportunity wasted?
James has been around long enough to understand that his team — not favored to beat the Nuggets in a best-of-seven series — has to take advantage of every potential marginal call or strong individual performance to have a shot at winning the series. It is possible that the Lakers’ best chance got away from them in Game 1.

Los Angeles was unable to win despite playing James and Anthony Davis more than 40 minutes apiece in difficult conditions at high altitude. While some criticized LeBron’s passive fourth quarter, he still put up 27 points, eight assists, and six rebounds, while Davis tied a game-high with 32 points while adding 14 rebounds, five assists, and four blocks.

The two stars’ best efforts were hindered by poor shooting around them, and the Lakers were outscored by 21 points from the 3-point line in a tough defeat. James and Davis will have to summon another huge effort — and have a third player go off — in order to even the series on Monday night before it shifts to Los Angeles for Games 3 and 4.

The Lakers must make some personnel construction decisions during the offseason in preparation for the upcoming season. One of these decisions pertains to Jarred Vanderbilt, a versatile forward. Vanderbilt is under contract with the team for the upcoming season, which is franchise-friendly and includes a $4.6 million option; therefore, his return is a foregone conclusion.

The Lakers admired Vanderbilt’s zeal and determination after acquiring him during the trade deadline. He contributed crucial defensive prowess and rebounding to the group, which was in dire need. Recently, LeBron James and Vanderbilt were observed attending the Louis Vuitton Fashion Show together.

Considering that the two appeared to be enjoying themselves, one questions whether Vanderbilt is privy to James’s thoughts concerning his possible retirement. Vanderbilt was an asset to Los Angeles during his brief tenure, averaging 7.2 points and 6.7 rebounds. A mainstay in the rotation, he was eventually removed from the court on account of his shooting deficiencies. He will be required to increase his 30.3 percent three-point shooting percentage if he wishes to avoid being removed from the court once more this season.

The Lakers could make the most of any inexpensive talent available in light of the forthcoming CBA agreement. It would be logical for the Lakers to re-enter the Vanderbilt game. The Los Angeles Ramblers must shortly decide on Vanderbilt and the remainder of their roster. In anticipation of the NBA Draft, the team will soon divulge their strategies.
