Against the Brooklyn Nets at Barclays Center on Sunday night, the Los Angeles Lakers resumed their road trip with the intention of getting back on track.

 

The Lakers were hoping for some payback after losing to the Nets at home earlier in the season, and they succeeded in doing so with a 116-104 victory.

 

Anthony Davis and Rui Hachimura worked hard inside to get Los Angeles out to a quick 6-0 lead, forcing an early timeout from the Nets. After the timeout, Brooklyn saw no improvement as the Lakers continued to dominate. With a triple by Hachimura and another dunk from Davis, the score was 15-0, resulting in yet another early timeout.

 

The Nets didn’t appear on the scoreboard until over halfway through the first quarter, to a tepid cheer from their home crowd. LeBron James’ free throws and five straight points from Davis helped the Lakers take a commanding 26-4 lead.

 

At that point, following knee surgery, Lakers guard Gabe Vincent showed up for the first time since December. After grabbing a rebound, he made his first appearance on the stat sheet with a midrange bank shot. At the end of the first quarter, the Lakers led 31-11, and everything appeared to be going according to plan.

 

With a bucket to start the second, D’Angelo Russell reached 10,000 points for his career. James then joined in on the fun, making three consecutive 3-pointers. However, the Lakers defense gave up a lot, and the Nets swiftly cut their lead back to 15, forcing head coach Darvin Ham to call a timeout.

In the third quarter, Russell and Reaves continued to have a good time, each coming up with steals and buckets early. But the Nets responded admirably, going on a 12-2 run sparked by Dennis Schroder, showing that they were not going to give up easily.

 

The Lakers were very sloppy with the ball in the third quarter, which led to turnovers. After Cam Thomas warmed up for Brooklyn, they were able to close the gap to 11 points at the end of the third quarter, 90-79, after Thomas beat the buzzer with a putback.

The International Academy of Digital Arts & Sciences announced the nominees on Tuesday, the result of 13,000 entries from over 70 countries, according to The Associated Press.

The Kansas City Chiefs star got a nomination in the best sports podcast category for teaming up with his brother Jason for their New Heights podcast.

Travis and his legendary Philadelphia Eagles center brother are also nominated in the Best Co-Hosts category.

Meanwhile, Swift shared an Instagram message encouraging her 283 million followers to register to vote was nominated in the best creator or influencer category. The website she directed her fans to – the nonpartisan Vote.org – recorded more than 35,000 registrations, according to the organization.

The NFL’s power couple aren’t the only famous couple with Michelle Obama getting a nod for her ‘The Light Podcast,’ while her husband, former President Barack Obama, was nominated for his work with LinkedIn.

The awards are selected by the Academy, while The Webby People´s Voice Award is voted on by fans around the world.

Voting for that award is open now until April 18. Winners for all awards will be announced May 13 at a ceremony hosted by “Late Night with Seth Meyers” writer and comedian Amber Ruffin.

Last November, the Kelces’ New Heights show was crowned Spotify’s No. 1 sports podcast in the world for 2023.

New Heights was also the top sports podcast in America and the top American football podcast in the US, per Spotify.

 The show’s meteoric rise continued last month when the popular NFL duo scooped Podcast of the Year at the iHeart Radio Awards. It beat out the likes of My Favorite Murder and SmartLess to win Podcast of the Year.

On Friday night, the Los Angeles Lakers resumed their road trip against the Indiana Pacers, hoping to win six games in a row.

The Lakers, however, excelled at getting out in transition, as evidenced by James and Reaves’ smooth basket-scoring passes to Davis and Hachimura. But the Lakers lost the second half due to some careless mistakes, and they trailed 54-49 going into the locker room.

 

The Lakers’ lackluster start to the third quarter allowed the Pacers to take their first double-digit lead as they kept giving up easy baskets and struggled to shoot from long.

 

The Lakers were unable to match the Pacers’ offensive intensity because Russell and other players were having serious trouble making 3-pointers. The Lakers were only 3-for-22 from beyond the arc as a team through three quarters. After a solid third quarter, Indiana maintained its lead and entered the fourth quarter with a comfortable 86-72 advantage.

 

Reaves did make a difference at the start of the last quarter by making a wing triple. Davis made a three-point play to swiftly reduce the gap to eight points. From there, Davis kept up his work, drawing a flagrant one foul from Jalen Smith, which let the Lakers cut into their deficit.

 

The Pacers were able to gain momentum after Reaves made a costly turnover, which caused the Lakers to falter. After Indiana regained a 15-point advantage, Darvin Ham made the decision to empty the bench and end the game.
