How modern offenses blend old-school tactics with new-age skills | The Score

“For us, it’s always made a lot of sense to run Steph (Curry) and Klay (Thompson) off of screens, because of what that can do to the defense,” said Warriors coach Steve Kerr, whose team routinely ranks at or near the bottom of the league in pick-and-roll frequency and near the top in off-ball actions.

“I always hear that we’re pick-and-roll averse, but we’re really not. It’s just kind of the way Steph is. He’s not James Harden or Luka (Doncic) where he’s gonna get the shot or the assist or turnover every possession. He’s much more likely to (pass early) and then run off-ball. That’s been one of the things that has made us a little different and unique. And I’ve had a lot of coaches over the years tell me that it’s hard to prepare for, because they don’t see it a lot.”

Kawakami: Chris Paul can balance the Warriors, who really need it now | The Athletic

“He’s getting more comfortable,” Draymond said. “I think that’s the biggest thing. You know, you come into a situation like this, it’s hard. Chris, we’ve played against C for years. You come into a situation, you’ve got Steph, you’ve got Klay. You know what those guys have done. And C is a pro’s pro, so he’s not gonna come up trying to impose his will or stepping on nobody’s toes. He’s gonna come in and feel the situation out.

“If I’m honest, I think he’s felt it out too much. Our thing all season long has been, ‘Be aggressive and use your voice.’ So many times he’ll preface it with, like, ‘I know you guys …’ Like, naw. We need your knowledge. We need what you bring to the table. We’ve had to face that all these years. To have him on the team with us now, we want that same guy. We don’t want you to come here and take a back seat. We don’t want you to come here and always defer to us. Like, naw, you’re Chris Paul, we know exactly who you are.

“That was the reason for the move. It wasn’t to get a guy who’s going to come in and fall in line with everybody else. It was to get Chris Paul. And I think he’s gotten more and more comfortable with his voice, with his game, finding his spots, understanding the playbook and all of those things. … He’s starting to come alive in a major way for us, and we need him.”

    Player grades: Warriors vs. Mavs

    Andrew Wiggins

    33 minutes, 23 points, 4 rebounds, 2 assists, 1 steal, 1 block, 3 turnovers, 1 foul, 8-for-16 shooting, 3-for-5 threes, 4-for-4 free throws, 64.8% TS, +3

I’ve said it many times this season — sometimes as a compliment, sometimes as a criticism — good things happen when Wiggins plays with aggression and urgency. Sometimes the stats aren’t great and sometimes they are; but when he plays with aggression and urgency, the Warriors almost always look like a significantly different team.

In this particular game, the stats were great, for the most part. Just high-quality stuff all around for Wiggins. If he maintains this approach, the Warriors can have realistic visions of making some runs.

    LeBron James’ Retirement

Following the Lakers most recent 116-104 victory over the Brooklyn Nets, James was asked how much longer he aims to play in the NBA.

LeBron James on how long he expects to continue playing in the NBA: “Not very long. … I’m not gonna play another 21 years, that’s for damn sure. But not very long. I don’t know when that door will close as far as when I’ll retire. But I don’t have much time left.” pic.twitter.com/OtJzM6cheI

    — Jovan Buha (@jovanbuha) April 1, 2024

James’ solemn response is by no means a reflection of his current ability. Just minutes prior, James had wrapped up the finishing touches on a masterful 40-point performance.

The Lakers superstar shot 13-17 from the field, including an astounding 9-10 from three-point range. He also chipped in with 7 rebounds and 5 assists.

    LeBron James in 2023-24

The NBA world continues to marvel at James’ longevity.

Now in his 21st season, James continues to find ways to adapt his game to his age. Although his current athletic abilities no longer match those of his youth, James’ speed and strength still make him a nightmare to defend in the open court.

Three-point shooting was an issue in 2022-23 for the future Hall of Famer, shooting only 32.1%. That was his worst season from beyond the arc since 2007-08.

It’s safe to say that the four-time NBA champion has regained his shooting touch in 2023-24. James is up to 41.6% shooting from deep, averaging 5.3 attempts per game. Having only missed 10 games this season, James is averaging 25.4 points, 7.3 rebounds, and 8.1 assists per game.

    Los Angeles Lakers in 2023-24

The Lakers have endured a topsy-turvy season. Expectations were higher than ever following their capture of the NBA’s maiden In-Season Tournament back in December, yet Los Angeles fell out of the playoff spots thanks to a woeful couple of months in December and January. They have since steadied the ship, with a record of 18-8 since February.

Now 9th in the Western Conference with a record of 42-33, LA will be hoping to achieve an unlikely climb out of the play-in with only seven games to go in the regular season.

The last playoff spot is currently occupied by the sixth-seeded New Orleans Pelicans. New Orleans has a three-game lead over the Lakers. LA does however hold a 2-1 season series lead over New Orleans.

The two teams will meet at the Smoothie King Center on the last day of the regular season in what could be a pivotal finale for both teams

Luka Doncic: Dallas Mavericks point guard scores 10th triple-double of the season

Luka Doncic recorded his 10th triple-double this season as the Dallas Mavericks defeated the LA Lakers 119-115. The 23-year-old Slovenian tallied 35 points, 14 rebounds, and 13 assists in 53 minutes. Although Dallas had a 19-point lead in the opening quarter, they needed double overtime to seal the victory. This win follows two consecutive losses, placing them fourth in the Western Conference, while LeBron James’ Lakers are 13th. Doncic commented, “It was a very physical game. Two overtimes, a lot of minutes, you had to stay focused. Energy was a bit low after two overtimes, but we managed to push through.

” Doncic tied the game at 101-101 in regulation time and forced a second extra period with a clutch 3-pointer. Christian Wood contributed 24 points and 14 rebounds, and Tim Hardaway Jr. added 22 points. In other games that night, the Boston Celtics secured a 109-98 victory over the Brooklyn Nets to extend their lead at the top of the Eastern Conference with their fifth straight win. The Nets were missing Kevin Durant due to a sprained right knee ligament, an injury suffered in their previous game against the Miami Heat. Celtics’ Marcus Smart, who had 16 points and six rebounds, stated, “We get out and run, it’s hard for people to stop it.” Gabe Vincent scored a career-high 28 points as the Miami Heat defeated the Milwaukee Bucks 108-102, who were without Giannis Antetokounmpo. Despite Damian Lillard’s 50-point performance, the Portland Trail Blazers fell short against the Cleveland Cavaliers as Donovan Mitchell scored 26 points.

After feeding Bronze a spoonful, Brittany said, “snow cone approved.” She then panned the camera over to Sterling and laughed as she filmed her daughter taking a bite of hers while sitting beside the pair.

Sterling was snapped in a final shot from the day trip standing outdoors again as she adjusted her heart-shaped sunglasses.

“The most perfect girl in the whole wide world 🥺🤍,” proud mom Brittany added in the caption.

Brittany and Patrick welcomed their daughter Sterling, on Feb. 20, 2021, and son, Bronze on Nov. 28, 2022. The 𝘤𝘩𝘪𝘭𝘥hood sweethearts tied the knot in March 2022.
