Kansas City Chiefs star Patrick Mahomes played the role of protective parent Monday as he shielded his young daughter Sterling from the solar eclipse.

The Great American Eclipse saw the moon block the sun for more than 180million people on Monday and the quarterback joined millions of Americans in donning multicolored glasses to witness the phenomenon.

His wife Brittany shared a video of Mahomes and their daughter Sterling, 3, in their protective glasses as they looked up at the sky to catch the eclipse.

However, the youngster appeared to be overly-excited by the cosmic display and didn’t realize how essential the eyewear was.

In another post on Brittany’s Instagram story, Sterling could be seen tottering around their patio before stopping to look up at the sun again without the protection of the glasses.

The total solar eclipse brought America to a standstill on Monday as millions stopped work, paused classes and flocked to the streets and city rooftops to view the rare event.

After sweeping northeast through Mexico and then Texas, Arkansas and Ohio shortly before 2pm, crowds gathered in New York City and Washington DC hoping to catch a glimpse.

‘Don’t look directly at the eclipse, too 𝓈ℯ𝓍y for your eyes,’ the Giants wrote. Once the moon had crossed over the sun in the video, however, it illuminated the face of Dexter ‘Sexy Dexy’ Lawrence II.

Down in Dallas, the Cowboys uploaded a photograph of tight end Jake Ferguson wearing eclipse glasses, while the Eagles posted a picture of Jalen Hurts in shades.

‘Don’t forget your safety glasses this afternoon,’ Philadelphia’s account said. As well as Hurts, the post also included a picture from SpongeBob SquarePants, when one of the character’s eyes are burning.

The Phoenix Suns’ recent loss against the New Orleans Pelicans couldn’t have come at a bad time, especially after the team is hunting for a playoff spot. For head coach Frank Vogel, though, their opponents’ excessive fouling on Devin Booker is something he has a problem with.

In that game, the Pelicans went home with the 113-105 win over Phoenix. CJ McCollum and Zion Williamson combined to lift their team up, with the former dropping 31 points on 58 percent shooting from beyond the arc. Williamson put up a great defensive performance by blocking five shots and grabbing 10 boards to go along with his 29 points and seven assists.

The Suns, on the other hand, had a big scoring night from the team’s All-Star trio. Bradley Beal posted 33 points and five assists, Devin Booker made 25 points and seven assists, while Kevin Durant tallied 23 points on an abysmal 36 percent shooting from the field. Apart from the three, Grayson Waller was the only Phoenix player who scored in double-digits with 11 points.

The loss placed Phoenix in a tie with NOLA for the Western Conference’s sixth spot. Both teams now have a record of 46 wins and 32 losses.

After the game, Frank Vogel spoke to reporters and mentioned how the Pelicans ganged up on Booker the entire night. In a video shared by Duane Rankin on X:

During the Suns’ last three games against New Orleans, Booker scored 50 points or more against them. This contest, though, the Pels have taken notice and intensified their defense against the All-Star guard. NOLA’s effort paid off as they go home with the big win over the Suns, placing them in a tie for the sixth spot in the process.

With only a couple of games remaining in the regular season, it’s going to be a dogfight between these two teams to grab the last sure spot in the West. Patrick Mahomes is kicking off the week with family time watching the eclipse.

 

In a series of Instagram Stories, Brittany Mahomes shared videos of her and her NFL star husband, both 28, showing their kids the sky during the total solar eclipse Monday, April 8. In one clip, Patrick can be seen holding his 3-year-old daughter, Sterling Skye, while they both cover their eyes with protective glasses.

“Sterling what do you see?” Brittany asks the toddler from behind the camera.

“I see the moon,” Sterling responds as the Kansans City Chiefs quarterback looks up in awe.

Later in the Instagram Stories, Patrick can be seen running to block the light from his daughter’s eyes when she tries staring at the sky without her glasses. Brittany and “the whole crew” who joined them are laughing in the background while Patrick chases after Sterling.

On Sunday, *NSYNC alum Lance Bass shared some of NASA’s safety tips ahead of his eclipse viewing.

“During these celestial events, the sun, Earth and moon are in sync — creating solar eclipses,” the singer, who serves on the board of the National Space Society, said in a video clip. “You can look directly at the sun during a total solar eclipse, but only when it’s completely covered by the moon for a brief period known as totality. This is a really special moment.”

Kelly Osbourne also took to Instagram on Monday to share a photo of her and her partner Sid Wilson watching the event.

Chris Jones is staying put with the Super Bowl champs.

Jones and the Kansas City Chiefs have agreed to terms on a five-year, $158.75 million deal with $101 million in guarantees, NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport reported, per Jones’ agents Katz Brothers Sports.

 

 

 

Jones, who in the eyes of some has surpassed Los Angeles Rams defensive tackle Aaron Donald as the league’s top interior defensive lineman, was just a few days away from hitting the open market, but the Chiefs are bringing back their game-changing defender for a run at a three-peat.

It’s perhaps no accident that Jones’ extension comes after the Baltimore Ravens and defensive lineman Justin Madubuike agreed to a massive deal.

Jones’ deal makes him the NFL’s highest-paid defensive tackle at $31.75 million per year, Rapoport reported. That is higher than Donald, who is currently making $31.6 million a year, per Over the Cap.

Jones, Gregg Rosenthal’s No. 1 free agent, has never shied away from stating that he wanted to stick with the Chiefs and general manager Brett Veach said as recently as the NFL Scouting Combine that re-signing his dynamic DL was “at the top” of his priority list.

Now, it’s come to fruition.

Jones, 29, is a five-time Pro Bowler, two-time All-Pro and three-time Super Bowl champion. He’s recorded back-to-back double-digit-sack seasons and has a penchant for coming up clutch in big games — which are commonplace for KC.

An offseason ago, Jones was also looking for a long-term re-up with the Chiefs but instead held out until a new one-year deal was worked out. Hence, while Jones and the Chiefs experienced Super Bowl success once again, another impending contract situation always loomed.

Jones held out through a Week 1 loss to the Detroit Lions this season, but in 2024, he’s poised to be on the field for the Chiefs’ season opener, smiling wide with a lucrative new contract.

 

 

Could even challenge Mahomes

 

 

CJ Stroud emerged as a breakout star last season, transforming the Houston Texans’ offense and earning the offensive rookie of the year title.

Now, sports analyst Chris Broussard has raised the question whether Stroud could potentially challenge Patrick Mahomes, who just clinched his second consecutive Super Bowl victory

Broussard believes so, suggesting that while Stroud may not yet be on Mahomes’ level, he has the potential to become a top contender. Despite acknowledging Stroud’s talent, Broussard emphasizes that being compared to Mahomes is premature given Stroud’s rookie status and limited experience.

“I’m not gonna sit here and say that CJ Stroud is right now, definitely is better than Lamar or Josh and Joe Burrow,” Broussard told First Things First.

“But he has something in his favor in this type of argument or debate [about Mahomes competition] that all of them lack. So, he’s a better passer than Lamar, he’s more poised and doesn’t make the same mistakes as Josh Allen, Burrows is just injury prone.”

Rating himself highly

While Stroud deserves recognition for his achievements, it’s essential to temper expectations and allow him time to develop without undue pressure. Earlier in the year, he didn’t hesitate to rank himself among NFL’s elite quarterbacks.

“Yes, sir. I do. I think I put it on film,” Stroud told CBS Sports Radio.

“I think my numbers speak for itself. Especially missing two games. If I didn’t miss two games, my numbers would have been just as good or one of the best in the league.

“And I think you can see the impact I had on my team. I’m not in the business of like, arguing, ‘I’m top five. I’m not.’ I really don’t care. I mean, I just want to win.”
