Lakers Injury Update: Jarred Vanderbilt Upgraded to Questionable for Game 5 Against Nuggets. ‎

The Los Angeles Lakers released their injury report for Monday’s Game 5 against the Denver Nuggets in their first round series and forward Jarred Vanderbilt (right midfoot sprain) was upgraded to questionable for the first time.

Additionally, LeBron James (left ankle peroneal tendinopathy) and Anthony Davis (left wrist sprain) are listed as probable although neither star is in danger of missing a game of this magnitude with the Lakers facing a win-or-go-home scenario.

Vanderbilt has missed the last two-plus months with the foot injury and seemed to be trending towards a return in the last couple weeks although was unable to in the first four games of this series. With the Lakers winning Game 4 to extend the series though, it now appears the defensive-minded forward could be able to return in Denver on Monday night.
Lakers Forward Jarred Vanderbilt Accused of Returning $2000 Clothes Despite Rocking Them During Game 1 Win Over the Warriors - The SportsRush
The Lakers certainly can use Vanderbilt if he is healthy, although after missing so much time, it may not be wise to throw him right into the fire in a must-win game given the stakes. Vanderbilt is not known for his offense and will likely be out of rhythm after missing so much time.

The same was said for Christian Wood, who returned from a knee injury in Game 4 but did not make it into the contest. He is off the injury report fully now, so head coach Darvin Ham has both Wood and Vanderbilt as options if he would like to go to them.

On the Nuggets side of things, star point guard Jamal Murray’s status is in jeopardy after injuring his calf in Game 4. He is listed as questionable with a left calf strain although surely will do whatever he can to be on the floor at home in a closeout game opportunity.

LeBron James: Jarred Vanderbilt’s return would bring energy to Lakers

LeBron James is known to be one of Jarred Vanderbilt’s biggest fans since he joined the Lakers, and he recently discussed what he would bring to the team if the forward is able to return during the Nuggets series or sometime during the postseason.

“Energy,” James said. “Super high energetic, defensively, some of the things he brings to our team, you don’t even teach. You just allow him to go out there and just be Vando. We don’t know for sure that we’re getting him back, we don’t know, we’ve only seen a couple reports. But he knows his body better than anybody.”

Nuggets’ Jamal Murray Seals Lakers’ Season with Another Game-Winning Shot. ‎

After finally snapping their losing streak to the Denver Nuggets in Game 4 to stave off elimination, the Los Angeles Lakers looked to build off that in Game 5 back at Ball Arena.

Lakers vs Nuggets Final Score: - Silver Screen and Roll

The Lakers’ season was of course still on the line with them facing a 3-1 series deficit, and it came to an unfortunate end on another Jamal Murray buzzer-beater to secure a 108-106 victory for the Nuggets.

Murray was a game-time decision due to a left calf strain but was able to give it a go and got the scoring started with the first six points for his team to give the Nuggets a 6-3 lead.

After Darvin Ham won an early challenge on an Austin Reaves foul call on a Murray 3-point attempt, the Lakers responded with eight straight points to take their first lead and force a Denver timeout.

Unfortunately though, Rui Hachimura missed some wide open looks while Jamal Murray stayed hot to put the Nuggets up 16-13.

From there though, the Nuggets started committing some silly turnovers with LeBron James and Anthony Davis taking advantage in the paint. Denver ended the first quarter on a 10-0 run, however, taking a 28-24 lead.

After a rough first quarter, D’Angelo Russell got on the scoreboard with a layup to begin the second before connecting from deep. James and Davis continued to do work inside from there with the Lakers locking in defensively to take a 41-34 advantage with a 12-0 run of their own.

The rest of the second quarter was a lot of back-and-forth scoring as well as bad turnovers by each team. For the fifth straight time though, the Lakers went into the halftime locker room with a lead at 53-50.

Hachimura missed a number of wide open shots in the first half but began the third quarter by hitting one from deep. Davis was then hit on the shoulder by Michael Porter Jr. and went down in a lot of pain although ultimately was able to stay in there for his team despite clearly not being at 100%.

With Davis hobbled, other guys needed to step up and James sense that, scoring five straight to increase the lead to nine. Naturally though, Nikola Jokic and the Nuggets responded with five quick points of their own to keep it close. After a four-point play by Porter, the game was tied and the Denver crowd was rocking.

Davis was forced back to the locker room from there, and the Nuggets kept that momentum rolling. Sensing things slipping away though, James and the Lakers had a nice response to close the third, getting within two at 81-79.

Given how poorly both teams played in the first three quarters, it made sense that things were close going into the final stretch, tied at 95 with four minutes to play.

Of course it was Jokic that put the Nuggets up two in the final couple minutes, although the Lakers quickly answered back with a Reaves 3.

Inability to get a rebound hurt the Lakers though and Murray made them pay with a three to go up two. James as then fouled and went to the line to tie it with 26 seconds to play and did exactly that.

Again though, Murray hit the game-winner and the Lakers season came to an end.

  • LeBron James criticized the referee, skipped the press conference after Game 2 loss to the Denver Nuggets

LeBron James criticized the referee, skipped the press conference after Game 2 loss to the Denver Nuggets

LeBron James leads the Los Angeles Lakers players talking about refereeing after the bitter defeat in Game 2, the 2024 NBA Playoffs series against the Denver Nuggets.

Losing to the Denver Nuggets with a score of 101-99 with Jamal Murray’s game-winner buzzer-beater, the Los Angeles Lakers players and coaching staff expressed regret. They lost a 20-point lead at the beginning of the third quarter and a 6-point lead with about 3 minutes left in the game.

Perhaps the Lakers collective can only blame themselves. However, some players have directed criticism at others, specifically the referees. LeBron James is one of these, publicly expressing his dissatisfaction with the match management of the referees and the NBA Replay Center.

LeBron James reacted frankly about the refereeing, expressing his dissatisfaction after the match between Los Angeles Lakers and Denver Nuggets in the 2024 NBA Playoffs

“Honestly, I don’t know what they do at the Replay Center,” James frankly shared. “We had a player who was hit in the face. They reviewed and called it not a mistake, so what do we have a Replay Center to do with decisions like that? I do not understand”

LeBron specifically pointed out the ball where D’Angelo Russell was hit in the face by Michael Porter Jr. on the Denver Nuggets side after a breakthrough. Initially, the referee blew the whistle and blew the Denver striker.

But after reviewing the situation through a slow camera angle, the referees even decided that this was not a foul but just a natural arm swing.

No penalty was awarded as the referee reversed Porter Jr.’s foul.

Review the situation LeBron James mentioned, the ball where D’Angelo Russell was hit in the face with a swing, but the referees reversed the error and did not give the Lakers a free throw according to the original decision.

After the match D’Angelo Russell did not interact with the media but shared about this situation on social networks: “It was a foul that we all saw, clearly on national television.” .

The Los Angeles Lakers led 79-69 when the above ball occurred, with 39.5 seconds left in the third quarter. Russell’s two free throws were withdrawn, almost destroying D’Lo’s chances of getting points because he has a very good free throw success rate.

It was these two points that became the Lakers’ complaint because in the end, they lost by exactly 2 points thanks to Jamal Murray’s buzzer-beater.

Not only talking about his match, LeBron James also mentioned the referee’s work in Game 2 between the Philadelphia 76ers and the New York Knicks. Here, the referee seemed to have overlooked two more obvious situations including a shirt-pulling phase and a refusal to let the 76ers call a time-out.

“Everything doesn’t make sense at all and it makes me very upset. And we also saw what happened in the Sixers – Knicks game, right? What are we doing here anyway? “LeBron James said.

Immediately after finishing speaking, James stood up and left the press conference. Anthony Davis then did the same thing when he left after another question related to Jamal Murray.

Video of LeBron James talking about refereeing and then standing up and leaving the press conference (end of video)

LeBron James had 26 points with 12 assists and 8 rebounds, but the Lakers captain missed an extremely empty 3-point shot right before Jamal Murray threw the game-winner.

Besides the “king”, Anthony Davis scored 32 points and 11 rebounds with 14-19 FG but was completely “hungry for points” in the 4th quarter. Part of the reason for this comes from the foul-trouble of the bigman born in 1993.

Anthony Davis received his fourth personal foul (an offensive foul) with 2 minutes and 41 seconds left in the third quarter, forcing coach Darvin Ham to take him out.

In the fourth quarter, Davis was also much more “sneaky” when defending and was psychologically affected. He only finished 1 more time and got no points.

Anthony Davis had a problem with personal fouls from the end of the third quarter and could not defend as well as in the first two rounds, a time when he and his teammates almost locked Denver down.

“There were times when we didn’t know what we were doing both offensively and defensively. And it was those situations that caused the team to lose the match,” Davis said. “Now we have to win Game 3, that’s the only goal for me and the team. Just simple as that”.

D’Angelo Russell also agreed with AD, thinking that the Lakers did well most of the time and needed to improve that: “During the whole match, I felt like we would win. A little adjustment will help us be more ready for Game 3.”

“In the end, my teammates and I have to control what we can do, try not to let things beyond our control (referring to the referee – reporter) affect the outcome of the match anymore.”

D’Angelo Russell and the Lakers players are still confident in their ability to defeat the Denver Nuggets when they return home

Through the first two matches of the 2024 NBA Playoffs round 1 series, Denver Nuggets successfully defended home field advantage.

Now it’s time for the series to move to two consecutive matches on the field of the Los Angeles Lakers, where the series could become tense and unpredictable if the LA team does what Denver did.

“They defended their home field, now it’s our turn. Game 3 will be the decisive match,” LeBron James said. “I know how I and my teammates can improve, so my focus will be completely on the next match.”

Game 3 of the series between the Los Angeles Lakers and Denver Nuggets will take place at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday, April 27 at Crypto.com Arena, the Lakers’ home stadium.

  • Lakers’s LeBron James Leaves Fans in Awe with Heroic 4th Quarter Performance Against Kevin Durant

Lakers’s LeBron James Leaves Fans in Awe with Heroic 4th Quarter Performance Against Kevin Durant

The Los Angeles Lakers struggled for the majority of Thursday night’s game at home against the undermanned Phoenix Suns, nearly inducing early-season hysteria among their supporters. However, their players provided them with the necessary boost. NBA supporters were energized by the 100-95 victory secured by Anthony Davis (30 points and 12 rebounds) and LeBron James’ heroics in the closing minutes of the game.

James purposefully charged the basket, exhibiting the same tenacity and power that have astounded spectators for the past two decades. With 41 seconds remaining, his storming drive effectively placed the game on ice and gave Los Angeles a four-point lead. The all-time leader in scoring concluded the game with twenty-one points, including ten in the fourth quarter, in addition to nine rebounds, eight assists, two thefts, and two blocks.

“Don’t take LeBron James for granted,” Kevin O’Connor of The Ringer wrote. Numerous individuals emulated the four-time champion’s magnificence.

Kevin Durant, who was compelled to lead the Suns in the absence of Devin Booker and Bradley Beal, dominated James for the majority of the evening in their first meeting in almost five years. Despite his outstanding performance of 39 points and 11 rebounds, his colleague Hall of Famer stole the show at the conclusion of the contest.Constant nitpicking will befall the Lakers, but victories that are so fiercely contested will require supporters to exert a little more patience. Although fluctuations are unavoidable in a Western Conference as competitive as the current one, the expertise and high basketball IQ of LeBron James will ensure that Los Angeles remains in the chase.Despite the impending conclusion, it appears that he retains a few unexpected elements in his repertoire of deceptions. On Sunday, James, Davis, and the Lakers will face another formidable opponent in the Sacramento Kings.

Nico Rosberg can be the star man on Sky Sports’ revamped Formula One coverage with Martin Brundle forced to cut down on race visits

Otherwise detained in London, a rare weekend free from attending a grand prix live allowed me the unusual pleasure of watching Sky’s coverage as the action unfolded in China.

I usually rerun the televised action on my return, but I never have it in my ear or watch the feed when I am at a race. This has a disadvantage, namely that you miss out on access to bundles of information Sky garner from their team out in the field. It has the advantage – if you can call it such – that at least I can make up my own mind about what is going on, uncluttered by the views of TV group think, and report it as I see it, which I have always thought is the point of being there.

Anyway, tuning in on Sunday morning, the star of the show to my mind was Nico Rosberg. He was in the commentary box with my old pal David Croft, the lead commentator, and the very slight tension between the two made for a successful calling of the race.

Rosberg can be disdainful. Crofty is always matey. And the collision of styles worked.

Rosberg’s task might have been daunting because he was standing in for no less than Martin Brundle, who holds the honour of succeeding Murray Walker as Formula One’s voice, and, sometimes, its conscience.

LeBron James Declares Travis Kelce the “Ohio King” Amid Taylor Swift Romance Rumors

Unexpectedly, NFL star Travis Kelce appears to be surpassing NBA legend LeBron James in popularity in their shared home state of Ohio, owing in part to the development of his relationship with music superstar Taylor Swift.

“The Shop,” which was hosted by Maverick Carter and Paul Rivera, featured James during Thursday Night Football between the Kansas City Chiefs and the Denver Broncos. Charissa Thompson, a broadcaster, posed the following inquiry: “LeBron, I never imagined the day would come when you would no longer be the most renowned athlete from Northeast Ohio. What emotion does it evoke?

James conceded with a chuckle, “Listen, there are times when you must relinquish the crown to the succeeding individual.” Additionally, he lauded Kelce, attributing a portion of his newfound influence to Swifties, Swift’s illustrious fan base. “With regard to the current situation involving Trav and the Swifties, I am inclined to bestow the crown upon him at this moment,” James declared. “He currently merits it.”

James and Kelce, who were born and raised in Cleveland Heights and Akron, respectively, an hour apart, so the statement of recognition from the NBA’s all-time leading scorer is highly influential. Following this, James made a public appeal for an invitation to the Kelce brothers’ wildly popular podcast, “New Heights.”

James exclaimed on social media, “It’s insane that I can’t get an invitation to join your fantastic show!” The podcast’s account expeditiously extended to the four-time NBA champion a “open invitation at any time.”

People has been informed by sources that Kelce’s relationship with Swift remains casual despite his rising notoriety. “He is quite charming.” “It is more of a social situation than a romantic one,” an insider disclosed. Despite this, Kelce continues to prioritize football, especially as the NFL season approaches its peak.

Kelce’s ascent is indisputable, a trajectory supported not only by his stellar on-field performance but also by his prominent affiliations, putting speculation to rest. Beyoncé was present on Wednesday (October 11) to promote Taylor Swift’s directorial debut with AMC.

Jayson Tatum’s parents, Justin Tatum and Brandy Cole-Barnes, have always been there for their son, all the way through his basketball career, from high school and college to the NBA.

Jayson Tatum attributes his current level of accomplishment in the world of athletics to the “tough love” that he received from his parents, Justin Tatum and Brandy Cole-Barnes.

During their time as students at Saint Louis University, Justin and Brandy gave birth to their son Jayson on March 3, 1998. While growing up, the future star of the Boston Celtics spent time at both of his parents’ schools, despite the fact that Justin and Brandy never lived together and eventually ended their relationship. When he was younger, he would accompany his mother to courses at the University of Missouri–St. Louis, and when his father was playing basketball at Saint Louis University, he would frequently find himself in the locker room with his father.

Jayson is what he calls a “mama’s boy,” and he told ESPN in November 2016 that his mother, Brandy, is his “best friend.” He further stated, “I’m the biggest mama’s boy ever, and I’m proud to say it.”

Jayson Tatum Parents, Brandy Cole and Justin Tatum

Growing up, the NBA star’s connection with his father was one of the more challenging aspects of his life. Jayson was raised primarily by his mother, while his father went back to the United States from Europe when Jayson was 8 years old to pursue a career as a professional basketball player in the Netherlands. Jayson never lived with his father. Jayson gives thanks to his father for assisting him in advancing farther in his career, despite the fact that he has been on the receiving end of harsh criticism and coaching approaches from his father.

“He saw the potential in me before I saw it in myself, so having him be that tough on me in basketball really you know, made me tougher on and off the court,” Jayson explained to KSDK.

The following provides information regarding Jayson Tatum’s parents, Justin Tatum and Brandy Cole-Barnes, including all pertinent details.

When Jayson was born, they were both enrolled in college.

Jayson Tatum and his momAccording to WCVB, Brandy had a full athletic scholarship waiting for her at the University of Tennessee when she graduated from high school at University City High. This was due to her participation on the varsity volleyball team for all four years of her high school career. In addition to being one of the top five students in her graduating class, she also served as the president of the senior class.According to ESPN, she found out she was expecting Jayson just a few weeks after she graduated from high school and became pregnant. She chose to pursue a degree in political science and communications at a local college in St. Louis rather than attending a school outside of the area. She also maintained a number of part-time jobs in addition to her studies to assist in covering the costs of daycare and tuition.”It was really tough, but it was what I felt like I had to do for both of us,” she said while speaking to the outlet about her decision. It was a tradition that Brandy continued all the way through her further education, including when she attended business school and law school. During her college years, Brandy would bring Jayson to class with her. In an article that he authored for The Players’ Tribune in April of 2016, Jayson reflected on the time that he and his mother spent attending school together. According to him, “I remember sitting in the back of her classes, eating snacks or immersing myself in books or video games.””I kept quiet, listening in here and there — to me, most of her professors seemed boring and talked a lot,” he explained further. “However, I had my own things to concentrate on, and she had her own. It was like every other day. So that’s what ended up happening. When my mother did not have enough money for a babysitter and my grandmother was still working, my grandmother and I would attend school together. At the period in question, Justin was enrolled at Saint Louis University and participating in the basketball program there. It would be an opportunity for Jayson to spend time with his father in the locker room as well as on the court, where he would be able to witness the pre-game speeches firsthand. On the other hand, during his formative years, his mother was the primary caregiver for him.In the world of basketball, Justin was a big deal.

Jayson Tatum with his father Justin

Jayson followed in his dad’s footsteps when it came to being a star in the NBA. Justin played basketball at Christian Brothers College high school with his son’s future godfather, former NBA star Larry Hughes. He went on to play basketball at Saint Louis University in college, where he balanced fatherhood and his burgeoning athletic career.

After he graduated from college, Justin went on to play basketball professionally in the Netherlands for three years, where Brandy would travel with Jayson so he could visit his father. Justin told Ladue News that it was “tough” being in the Netherlands for 10 months out of the year and away from his son. In his spare time while overseas, he’d help coach youth teams, a skillset he carried with him back to the U.S. as he transitioned into being a coach rather than a player.

After his professional career came to a close, he went on to become the assistant basketball coach at his alma mater, Christian Brothers College, for the 2006-2007, season before accepting a position at Soldan International Studies High School. Justin eventually returned to his alma mater as head coach, where he has been for over 10 consecutive seasons, according to his website. He has also hosted youth camps for over a decade to give kids a chance to learn basketball and forge new friendships.

Jayson Tatum with his father Justin

As he got older, Jayson’s father acted as his trainer and coach to help him achieve his dream of playing basketball professionally. The Celtics star has said that neither his mother nor his father “took it easy” and “were extremely tough” on him, especially his dad. Speaking to Graham Bensinger in October 2022, Jayson got candid about how his father’s coaching “put a strain” on their relationship.

“I feel like I missed out on a father-son relationship,” he said. “Me and my dad only ever went to games or practice and to get haircuts. We didn’t go to amusement parks. We didn’t go to picnics, or fishing, or really have father-son talks because it was just all basketball.”

Jayson said that his father would often swear at him and embarrass him in front of his teammates, including throwing the ball at him. He explained, “In his eyes, he wanted me to be the toughest. He wanted me to be the best.”

“And that was his way … like if he made me upset, I would play better and in a sense, I did,” he continued. “I would get so upset. I would get so angry that I would play better.”

Despite the difficult relationship he had with Justin growing up, Jayson cites the tough love he received from him as the reason for his success today. He explained, “He was so tough on me, which I appreciate, because I wouldn’t be here if he wasn’t.”

In the years since, Jayson has grown very close with his dad, and the father-son duo have mended their relationship.

Brandy holds several different degrees, including a law degree, which she earned in 2010. When she was in law school, Jayson would often be by her side and would flip through some of her textbooks as she studied.

While speaking to Bleacher Report, she recalled one moment where he declared that he didn’t want to read “these kind of books” and that he just wanted to play basketball, to which she’d tell him, “Well, you better work really hard.”

In addition to Jayson, Justin has two more children: a son, Jaycob, and a daughter, Kayden. Jaycob went to high school at his father’s alma mater, Christian Brothers College, where he played football. During his time on the team, they won two state championships. He now plays football at Western Illinois University, according to his father’s website.

In 2016, Brandy married her now-husband, Marcus “Jake” Barnes, who previously worked as a counselor at the Reebok All-American Camp, according to the Boston Herald. Jayson shared several photos from the Bahamas wedding on Instagram to celebrate the occasion. In one photo, he poses with the bride and groom as they match in all-white ensembles. “She’s married now! Happy for you Momma! Love ya both,” he wrote in the caption.

In another photo, he can be seen giving his mom a kiss on the cheek. He captioned the sweet shot: “Mommas boy till the end! I’m so happy for her️.”

Brandy always instilled the importance of maintaining good grades and getting an education in her son. Speaking to Sentinel & Enterprise, Brandy reflected on how she handled the balance between her son’s commitment to basketball, and to the classroom.

“One time I had to call his bluff, because I would always tell him that we don’t do C’s,” she said of her son. “It was B’s and above because I knew what he was capable of. He would always do fine, but one time he tried me, and I kept him home from a tournament. It about killed him. It was fourth or fifth grade. He almost lost it, but ever since then, he knew I meant business.”

Though he only attended Duke University for one year before he was drafted to the NBA, Brandy’s one wish is for Jayson to finish his degree.

“That’s a big thing for me. A lot of Duke kids come back and get their degree. I told him, It doesn’t matter how long it takes. He’s seen how hard I’ve worked,” Brandy said in her interview with ESPN.

In an interview with Today, Brandy said she knew by the time Jayson was in fourth grade that he would make it to the NBA.

“I knew he was gifted — he would do things and make moves and that you just couldn’t teach,” she said. “It was like it was just innate in him.”

However, Brandy made sure to set boundaries with herself to ensure she was still pushing him to be his best while also allowing him to be a kid.

“We can’t want it more than they do. That’s the biggest thing,” she explained. “And I think sometimes we want to push them more. And so that was the line for me — I would tell him, ‘Listen, I will give you every opportunity, every resource, I’ll do whatever it takes, but you have to do your part.’ “

Jayson “Deuce” Christopher Tatum Jr. is the son of Jayson, and Jayson is a proud father. On December 6, 2017, the NBA player and his ex-girlfriend, Toriah Lachell, became parents to a son named Deuce. At the time, they were both 19 years old. It was just six months after he was chosen third overall in the NBA draft that he became a father to his first child.

During an interview with Today, Brandy referred to her grandson as a “blessing all the way around.” She continued by saying, “To get to see Jayson in a different light, you know, in a different capacity, and see that something that I never thought possible would bring him more joy than basketball — I think Deuce puts everything in perspective for him.”

The top player for the Boston Celtics has also said that his own childhood serves as influence for the way that he raises his son. While having a conversation with Bensinger in October 2022, he said the following: “When I was growing up, even when I was a kid, I always saw my friends with their dad and how their relationship was bigger than basketball and sports and how they were closer.”

He went on, “I’ve always said I wanted to have a kid,” which was the next thing he said. “And I was like if I ever have a son, I’m going to make sure that we are best friends because I wanted what I didn’t have, in a sense.”
