Jason Kelce is adamant about not getting a cat!

 

On the latest episode of the New Heights with Travis and Jason Kelce podcast, the Philadelphia Eagles center responded to his wife Kylie Kelce’s comment about bringing one home against his wishes.

Last week, she wrote under a clip on the podcast’s Instagram account: “‘I’m not asking for permission, I’m doing this.’ – the exact quote I will say when I’m grabbing the keys to go get a cat.”

On Wednesday, Jason responded by saying, “Ky tweeted this or Instagrammed this and immediately, I googled ‘how to lose a cat.’ ”

 

“Nothing came up. The only thing that came up was like, ‘Oh, are you sad you just lost a cat?’ ” he continued before jokingly adding, “Like, no, I need to lose a cat. I’m not worried about losing it. I want to lose it, and I’m surprised that there was nowhere to research good ways to accidentally lose a cat.”

Jason shared that “if a cat does show up” at his home, the feline “will find its way off our properties in some way.” However, his brother Travis Kelce reminded the Eagles star that he previously mentioned that he “appreciated” an outdoor cat.

“I do. I do, but I feel like… knowing Kylie, it’s gonna find its way indoors,” Jason said. “If we can set those boundaries — but I feel like it’s not going to happen. It’s going to find its way in the house.”

“The kids are gonna want it up in their bedroom,” he continued. “There’s gonna be cat stuff all over the place… I just remember going in certain guys’ houses growing up that had cats and you would smell that… urine smell? And I’m out.”

Travis joked that if Jason gets a cat, their podcast listeners should get to name it, and suggested that they submit their best cat names to enter into a “bracket.” Jason, however, was not amused, saying, “We’re not playing this game!”

 

“Listen, if you are okay with a cat getting lost after you’ve already named it, go ahead and participate,” he continued. “This thing is not making it far.”

Jason also admitted earlier in the episode that after Kylie’s message, several podcast listeners messaged him about different breeds of cats he should consider, including a “ragdoll” cat, which “cuddles up next to you” and is similar to a dog. Another breed that was suggested was a tabby cat.

Kylie has been trying to convince her husband to get a cat for weeks. On a previous episode of New Heights in December, Kylie and Travis even discussed how they could work together to get Jason on board with adding a feline to his family.

“No, here’s the deal, I told Jason that I want to get a cat. And he told me no. And I feel like you might like cats now,” she said, hinting to Travis’ girlfriend Taylor Swift’s love of cats. The pop star famously has three cats that she cares for — Meredith Grey, Olivia Benson and Benjamin Button.

The NFL stars issυed a heartfelt мessage to their fans before Wednesday’s episode of the New Heights with Jason and Travis Kelce podcast, which is pre-recorded and will featυre gυests Chris Long and Beaυ Allen.

 

“Attention 92%ers, we have a pre-recorded episode for yoυ gυys coмing υp on Wednesday, bυt after the tragic events of the Sυper Bowl parade in Kansas City, it didn’t feel right withoυt yoυ gυys hearing froм υs first,” said Travis, 34, at the start of the special podcast intro released online on Monday.

“We jυst wanted to say oυr hearts go oυt to all of the victiмs, their faмilies, Chiefs Kingdoм, and really all of Kansas City that was really there on a day to try and celebrate the coммυnity,” added Jason, 36.

“It’s υnfortυnate, and deeply tragic the events that occυrred. So we want to thank the local law enforceмent that sprang into action, the first responders on scene, and anybody that’s been willing to help those affected by this tragedy,” he continυed.

Travis reмinded their fans that an eмergency response fυnd has been set υp to help sυpport the victiмs and their faмilies, as well as violence prevention, мental health services, and first responders.

Jason praised the Kansas City coммυnity for “coмing together and rallying aroυnd the people that have been affected” by the tragedy.

“One of the beaυtifυl things that we have in doing this podcast is the wonderfυl coммυnity oυt there — the 92%ers — everybody that watches this show,” he continυed.

“We’re still figυring oυt a way for υs to be involved. Obvioυsly, yoυ can donate to these links right now, bυt we plan on doing soмething in the fυtυre. We’re trying to get that sitυated right now. [We] have soмe ideas, bυt jυst мake sυre yoυ’re following, and we’ll be telling yoυ gυys ways that we’re trying to get involved,” said Jason.

Travis ended the video by telling their fans that they’ll hear froм theм soon.

Their мessage coмes a few days after the Kansas City Chiefs tight end and his charity, Eighty-Seven &aмp; Rυnning, donated $100,000 to a GoFυndMe benefiting Madison “Madi” Rose Reyes, 10, and Melia Reese Reyes, 8, who were injυred at the parade.

The sisters, who were both shot in the legs, also received a visit froм Chiefs qυarterback Patrick Mahoмes and his wife Brittany.

“In a tiмe where they are traυмatized, saddened, and worried, having a sυrprise appearance froм Patrick and Brittany Mahoмes broυght the first sмile to their faces since tragedy strυck. Even thoυgh they will be wearing casts for several мonths they are excited to show loved ones that Patrick signed their cast,” their faмily told PEOPLE in an exclυsive stateмent.

“It was a fun-ass journey to watch, and like I said yesterday, man, I just appreciate you showing me the way and bringing us all along the journey with you,” Travis said through tears.

Jason replied by telling the Kansas City Chiefs tight end that they “showed each other the way.”

“Listen, I’m out of playing but I’m still going to the games,” Jason said. “You’ve been playing for a long time on your own and I look forward to being able to appreciate and watch your games more and take in the bigger picture of football and everything that it has to offer.”

Jason added that he and his family will still remain in Philadelphia and that he’s looking forward to an “exciting” new chapter where he’ll get to experience things he’s never done before.

“It was cool being the tag team of the National Football League. Pretty cool s–t,” Travis admitted as he continued to struggle holding back his sobs.

Travis added that he hadn’t really discussed Jason’s retirement speech from Monday because he was letting him do his “own thing.”

“I couldn’t have been more proud listening to you yesterday,” Travis said. “It’s been a lot of emotions. A lot of sad emotions, a lot of exciting emotions. I mean, you’ve got the f–king world in your palm now, dude.

“You’ve got three little ones I know you’re dying to watch grow up,” Travis continued, referring to Jason’s three kids with wife Kylie: Wyatt, 4, Elliotte, 3, and Bennie, 1.

Sniffling as he held back tears, the three-time Super Bowl champion noted that there are a lot of exciting things for Jason to look forward to.

“Can I see the Kleenex real quick?” Travis asked, to which Jason laughed.

“I would be crying more but I wasted all my tears,” Jason told him, to which Travis replied, “You know I’ve got plenty of those.”

Jason announced during a press conference on Monday that he was stepping away from his football career with a teary-eyed speech.

“There is no chance I would be here without the bond Travis and I share,” Jason shared. “It was really my brother and I our whole lives. We did almost everything together — competed, fought, laughed, cried and learned from each other. We invented games, imagine ourselves as star players of that time.”

He continued, “We envisioned making winning plays day after day. We won countless Super Bowls in our minds before ever leaving the house. And when we weren’t playing we were at the other one’s games.”

Travis was seen wiping away his own tears as he listened from the audience to his brother’s emotional goodbye to the sport.

Jason spent his entire career playing for the Eagles after being drafted in 2011 as the team’s sixth-round pick. He won a Super Bowl ring in 2018 and has seven Pro Bowls under his belt.

Jason was famously defeated by Travis’ team in the 2023 Super Bowl when the Chiefs beat the Eagles, 38-35.

Swifties have gone wild as a number of them have claimed that Jason Kelce made a reference to one of Taylor Swift‘s 2012 hits in his emotional retirement speech, earlier on Monday.

While talking about his relationship with his brother, Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce, in a press conference held by the Eagles, Jason was fighting back tears, but Swift fans noticed that he made a subtle mention of the popstar.

‘I found my career being fulfilled in the City of Brotherly Love,’ Jason, 36, said at first. ‘I knew that relationship all too well…’

Swifties on X couldn’t help but to point out an apparent reference to Swift’s song, ‘All Too Well,’ later on;

‘Jason Kelce just quoted ”All too well” in his retirement speech. Love it so much,’ a person tweeted.

A different individual said she was ‘not ok’ after ‘Jaisn [sic] made a too well reference.’

The references didn’t stop there, with Kelce later saying in his speech: ‘If you go above and beyond for this city, you will be rewarded above your wildest dreams.’

Another pointed out that ‘Jason Kelce retiring from the NFL after 13 seasons and dropping ”All Too Well” and ”Wildest Dreams” in his retirement speech is so swiftie coded.’

‘So far, Jason Kelce has said “All Too Well” and “Wildest Dreams” in his retirement speech. I’m never, ever going to shut up about that,’ said someone else.

The six-time All-Pro and seven-time Pro Bowl selection started 205 games for the Eagles, including the postseason.

Drafted in the sixth round (191st overall) in 2011, Kelce became a Super Bowl LII champion and one of the most durable, decorated and respected centers in NFL history — and one of the league’s most passionate players.

As the defending Super Bowl champions, the Kansas City Chiefs quarterback and tight end have an undeniable relationship on the field — a connection many have described as telepathic, whether they’re fans of the team or not.

When asked by PEOPLE about their communication on the gridiron during Thursday’s Super Bowl press conference in Las Vegas, both Mahomes and Kelce explained the verbal and non-verbal queues they use to drive points during games.

“I think there’s just been a lot of work that’s gone in, so there are some things that don’t need to be said,” Kelce, 34, replied when speaking to the room of reporters. “But at the same time, there’s little bits of communication that can assure you and make sure that we’re both on the same page at times.”

Kelce went on to explain that their strategy differs depending on the situation.

“Everything that we do on the field is play specific and really dependent on what coverage is and things that the other team is playing,” he said of his plays with Mahomes, 28. “It really just depends on the scenario.”

“I’ve been fortunate to be able to grow on this offense with the big guy,” added Kelce — who contributed to the Chiefs’ success in clinching the victory against the Baltimore Ravens during the AFC Championship game on Jan. 28, securing the team a spot in the Super Bowl for the fourth time since 2019.

During Mahomes’ press conference, PEOPLE posed the same question — though specifically asking about Kelce’s quote regarding the “things that don’t need to be said.”

“We think along the same wavelength on kind of a lot of things,” Mahomes told reporters when asked about his telepathic connection with Kelce. “We have a lot of similar hobbies, similar interests and it translates to the football field.”

Mahomes explained, “A lot of times, there might be something we haven’t talked about that he kind of does and I just know he’s going to do it — and so, it comes with a lot of reps.”

He continued, “A lot of times its just hanging out just kind of learning about football and each other and what we do and have had success on the football field.”

Mahomes confirmed that words “for sure” don’t have to be used on the field at times. “Being able to be on the same wavelength with someone else,” he said, “breeds more success” in all aspects of life, both on and off the field.

For Mahomes and Kelce in particular, the QB said being on that same wavelength with the star tight end is “something we’ve done throughout our careers.”

On Sunday, the Chiefs will return to the Super Bowl to defend their championship title against the San Fransisco 49ers at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas. A win for the Chiefs would mark a third title for both Mahomes and Kelce.
