After a couple of big wins over the Los Angeles Clippers and Oklahoma City Thunder recently, the Los Angeles Lakers seemed to be getting back on track as a team that might become a force to be reckoned with once the NBA playoffs got underway next month.

 

Unfortunately, instead of taking a step forward yesterday against the division-rival Sacramento Kings, LeBron James and company took two steps back as they were crushed by De’Aaron Fox and his squad filled with talented young players.

Along with losing a crucial game that will impact the playoff picture for the Lakers, James left the game late in the fourth quarter because he was dealing with some discomfort in his left ankle, which is an injury that has been bothering him all season.

Obviously, seeing James walk off the court and head straight for the locker room was a major concern for the Lakers, but it appears the injury may simply be the product of being 39 years old with a lot of miles on his body, according to Dave McMenamin of ESPN

Fortunately for the Lakers, it was just more of the same from James in terms of the injury he’s dealing with, as it may not impact his playing status moving forward unless he injures it further.

On Friday, the Lakers will host the Milwaukee Bucks in what will be another tough game for James and company as this team tries to continue moving up the standings in the Western Conference to improve their seeding for the upcoming NBA playoffs.

Los Angeles Lakers star LeBron James was forced to leave Wednesday’s game against the Sacramento Kings with what appears to be a lower-body injury.

With 3:56 left in the fourth quarter, James suddenly headed to the locker room. No details about his exit were provided, but cameras caught him walking gingerly, appearing to be hurt.

LeBron James didn’t return and ended the night with 31 points, five rebounds and 13 assists. The Lakers also end up losing to the Kings 130-120 despite leading by as much as 19 points early in the contest.

In his postgame presser, head coach Darvin Ham said that they will be evaluating James and provide an update on his status when they have more information. He didn’t disclose the nature of the injury.

Minutes later, however, James also addressed the media and shared that it was his ankle that flared up, per Michael Corvo of ClutchPoints. While the Lakers star doesn’t seem bothered by the health setback, the severity of the issue has yet to be determined.

With the Lakers fighting for a postseason spot, the last thing they want to see and hear is an injury to their best player. Hopes are high that James will not have to be sidelined as a result of the injury, but considering his health and the fact that the postseason is so close, fans shouldn’t be surprised if LA opts to give him some rest and manage his workload moving forward.

For now, the Purple and Gold faithful can only pray for the best for James’ health status.

He could either leave for another squad or opt into his $51.4 million salary. According to Bobby Marks and Dave McMenamin of ESPN, all signs point to James and the Lakers agreeing on a deal this summer. The most significant deciding factor could be what his son, USC freshman guard Bronny James, decides to do. Will he declare for the draft in 2024 or return to USC for his sophomore year? The four-time MVP has been adamant about wanting to play alongside his son, but it may not be in the cards for the next NBA season. As for his options outside the Lakers, the only teams with big cash this summer are the Oklahoma City Thunder, Philadelphia 76ers, and Orland Magic.

While two of those three are up-and-coming teams, and the 76ers are a threat every season, we don’t see James packing up his bags and leaving for those cities. The Knicks and the Warriors are also teams that are interested in James. However, with the Warrios case, it could invoke a sign-and-trade. With the Knicks, they have the allure of Madison Square Garden; however, they may also need to trade for The King.

The last thign the Lakers want to do is be the franchise who traded hames sop the chances of either of thise team slandign him are pretty dim. The Lakers are the only team in the NAB that can offer Hames a true no-trade clause. If he opts into his contract, he would be eligible to sign a two-year, $122 million extension with the Lakes starting August 18th. If James signs that deal, he would have spent eight seasons with the Lakers, the most he’s spent with any franchise through one tenure.

O’Pella has been battling cancer and wasn’t able to be the guy to tape Kelce’s ankles for Kelce’s last game in the NFL. So the Eagles legend had O’Pella tape him up one last time on Monday afternoon.

As Kelce walked out of the NovaCare Auditorium and into the cafeteria where a ton of Eagles employees had gathered, you can see that his ankles are taped inside his flip-flops.

“He’s been there my entire career too, Joe O’Pella,” Kelce said on the latest episode of the New Heights podcast. “Thankfully, he’s in remission, they don’t have any signs of it. They’re still going to do an operation, I think, to make sure. But he’s looking good. But he wasn’t able to tape me for any of the game this year. He’s taped my ankles my whole career. So he taped my ankles for the press conference one last time. So I had ankle tape on with sandals.”

During his 41-minute speech, Kelce explained the beauty of an NFL locker room, how people from all walks of life come together for a common goal. That extends past players, who become extremely close with other staff members like O’Pella.

O’Pella began with the Eagles as a seasonal athletic training intern from 2008-09 and was an athletic training assistant from 2010-11. He spent six season as an assistant athletic trainer before being promoted to associate athletic trainer in 2018.

Kansas City has always been pretty active when it comes to trading with the tag (see: Frank Clark), and they’re putting the vibe out with Sneed. Leger Douzable and I talked about Sneed on the “Pick Six NFL” podcast on Tuesday and how it makes total sense for him to come back and try to win three titles in a row. Every player who has two with the Chiefs already should be doing it. Having said that … Sneed is 27, he was a fourth-round pick, he’s playing the best football of his career and he should bank a massive deal if he can. The Chiefs told him to seek a trade, and I expect his agents to find someone who will give him somewhere in the range of $40 million guaranteed on the low end. He was outstanding this year. The only impediment is the Chiefs seeing the salary cap bump and thinking they can run it back this year.

Thomas registered a relative athletic score of 9.97 at the combine, the 10th-highest among receivers since 1987, per Kent Lee Platte of Pro Football Network.

Thomas’ game at LSU was built on speed. His testing times confirmed that he is an elite athlete with a prototypical frame for an outside deep threat. Thomas can also work from the slot, so he isn’t just a one-trick pony.

He does need to develop a more complex route tree. However, as B/R scout Derrik Klassen noted in his scouting report, “it’s hard to find players with his size, speed and instant burst.”

Oh sure, the fastest man in combine history falls to the back-to-back Super Bowl champs. Worthy will be a really interesting test case, because the speed is special and it shows up on tape, but he was 165 pounds at the combine — and that number will scare off some teams. However, if he lasts all the way to pick No. 32, Red Raiders (like QB Patrick Mahomes) and Longhorns will learn to get along in Kansas City.

Naturally, the former Kansas City player was asked which quarterback he’d pick as the league’s best. Without hesitation, Hill said that it was the Chiefs’ Patrick Mahomes, whom he described as “obviously the best quarterback in the league.”

Without prompting, Hill knew he would have to walk back a statement he made during the first episode of his “It Needed To Be Said” podcast in the summer of 2022: that Miami’s Tua Tagovailoa was a more accurate passer than Mahomes.

“Obviously, like I’m gonna go with [Mahomes] as the strongest arm,” Hill had said at the time, “but as far as accuracy-wise, I’m going with Tua all day. I want it to hit me right in the breadbasket, just like I did in the Buffalo Bills game and take it 70.”
