Chiefs faпs sυfferiпg frostbite, пeed ampυtatioпs after atteпdiпg 4-below playoff game, doctor says

Some Kansas City Chiefs fans who attended one of the coldest NFL games on record in January are being told to schedule amputations following their hospitalizations for frostbite.

Seventy percent of frostbite patients that the Grossman Burn Center at Research Medical Center in Kansas City, Missouri received since January are being advised to undergo the life-altering procedure.

Many of the patients were among the daring fans who braved the elements at Arrowhead Stadium to watch the Chiefs’ 26-9 wild-card weekend victory over the Dolphins on Jan. 13.

“The patients who had their frostbite injuries along with the Chiefs game, they are just getting to the point now we are starting to discuss their amputations that might be necessary,” Dr. Megan Garcia director of the burn center told FOX 4 KC.

One fan, who only took their gloves off for five minutes to set up a tent in the parking lot, was left with red fingertips that have since turned dark blue and purple, photos shared by HCA Midwest Health to the outlet show.

The 30 percent of patients who are in discussion of amputations have been undergoing treatment over the past weeks in hyperbaric oxygen tanks.

Those individuals, while they keep their fingers and toes, will still have long-lasting effects from the cold.

“It’s still a lifelong process. They’ll have sensitivity and pain for the rest of their lives and always will be more susceptible to frostbite in the future,” Garcia said. “So we are also educating them to make sure they stay warm for the years and months to come.”

The Jan. 13 game was the fourth coldest game in league history and the lowest temperatures recorded at Arrowhead Stadium since its opening in 1972, as 70,000 fans packed the stands to watch the beginning of the Chiefs’ Super Bowl push.

Thermostats on the field displayed a bone-chilling minus-4 degrees at kickoff and fell as low as eight below during the game.

The wind chill of minus-27 also marked the third-coldest kickoff wild chill in NFL history, per the Chiefs.

The number does not include fans who sought medical attention at the stadium or those who made walk-in visits at local hospitals following the game.

The Grossman Burn Center revealed the information during a burn survivor’s reunion at the medical center on Tuesday.

“People think of burns, they think of fire, they think of hot thermal injuries. But burns can happen from many different causes,” Garcia added.

At the time Garcia predicted the number of amputations her burn unit would encounter in the late winter to early spring would be in the double digits.

“In just this cold spell we’ve been having I’ve seen multiple patients that will likely require amputation five to six weeks from now. I imagine it’ll be somewhere between 10 and 20 at this point,” she told WDAF in January.

The story behind Jimmy Butler’s meaningful pink shoes at Game 3 NBA Playoffs

Amid the stress and busyness of the NBA Playoffs series, Jimmy Butler still took some time to send emotional support to the family of his former Minnesota Timberwolves teammate Tyus Jones.

Jimmy Butler left a clear mark in the Philadelphia 76ers’ 116-95 victory over the Toronto Raptors in Game 3 of the Eastern NBA Playoffs series last Friday. Excellent at both ends of the court, the striker wearing shirt number 23 almost achieved a triple-double with 22 points along with 9 rebounds, 9 assists and 3 steals.

On a sublime day of play for the Sixers, under Jimmy Butler’s feet were a pair of bright pink Air Jordan 32 Lows. Sometimes NBA players still like to wear unique color combinations on the court to express their personality, but these pink shoes of Jimmy have a very special meaning.

Jimmy Butler’s message: “Mama Jones, we will fight together”

On Jimmy Butler’s shoes is a message and its meaning is moral support for Ms. Debbie, the mother of Butler’s former Minnesota Timberwolves teammate Tyus Jones.

In a recent share of Tyus on social networks, he informed his fans that his beloved mother was diagnosed with malignant breast cancer. This is what makes many people feel sad, including my close friend Jimmy Butler.

To mentally support Ms. Debbie as well as Tyus Jones’ family, Butler searched through the shoe cabinet and found this pair of Air Jordan 32 Low in “Hot Pink” colorway. In the US, pink is often chosen to symbolize breast cancer prevention campaigns, enough to see how carefully Jimmy Butler calculated this shoe choice.

Jackson Mahomes, the younger brother of Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes, was sentenced to six months of unsupervised probation on Thursday after pleading no contest to a simple battery charge, according to court records.

“Jackson is thankful for the support of his family and friends during the last year. Jackson pled no contest to a single count of simple battery and he was given six months of unsupervised probation,” Brandan Davies, attorney for Jackson Mahomes told CNN Friday. “Jackson simply wanted the case to be over with and to move on with his life, the matter is now closed and we will not be issuing any further statements.”

Mahomes was arrested and charged in May 2023 with three counts of aggravated sexual battery and one of battery by the Johnson County District Attorney’s Office.

Prosecutors ended up dropping the three counts of aggravated sexual battery in January, according to court records.

Mahomes brother, Patrick, is the starting quarterback for the Kansas City Chiefs, with two Super Bowl wins under his belt. He’s also the only quarterback to win the league’s MVP position twice in only six years.

Patrick Mahomes’ father, Patrick Mahomes Sr., was arrested in Texas under suspicion of driving while intoxicated in February.

CNN’s Brammhi Balarajan contributed to this report.

Correction: An earlier version of this story misstated the charge Jackson Mahomes pleaded no contest to.

SHAMEFUL: Celtics’ win streak is history after Cavaliers erase 22-point fourth quarter hole in Cleveland

Celtics’ Defensive Dominance Falters in Stunning Loss to Cavaliers

    USATSI_22700609

In a rollercoaster of a game, the Boston Celtics found themselves on the wrong end of a dramatic rally by the Cleveland Cavaliers, resulting in a heartbreaking 105-104 defeat. Despite a strong start and commanding lead, the Celtics faltered defensively in the final stretch, allowing the Cavaliers to mount a remarkable comeback.

The Celtics came out firing on all cylinders in the first quarter, showcasing their defensive prowess by holding the Cavaliers scoreless for over four minutes while embarking on a 15-0 run. Kristaps Porzingis led the charge with ten points, including two three-pointers, while also making his presence felt with two blocked shots.

Jayson Tatum asserted his dominance on both ends of the court, contributing 13 points and displaying sharpshooting from beyond the arc. However, despite their defensive efforts, the Celtics struggled to contain Cleveland’s twin towers of Jarrett Allen and Evan Mobley, conceding ten second-chance points in the opening quarter.

Jaylen Brown poured in 12 points during the third quarter Tuesday in Cleveland, as the Celtics began building a second-half lead that peaked at 22 points.

In the second frame, Boston tightened up its defense and improved its performance on the glass, holding the Cavaliers to just 26.9 percent shooting from the field. Tatum continued to excel, adding nine more points to his tally and grabbing crucial rebounds to maintain Boston’s momentum.

Heading into halftime with a 55-45 lead, the Celtics appeared poised for victory. However, a series of missed opportunities and turnovers in the third quarter allowed the Cavaliers to claw their way back into the game. Derrick White’s impressive defensive plays were overshadowed by Boston’s offensive struggles, as they let their lead slip away.

Despite Jaylen Brown’s offensive contributions, including 12 points in the third period, the Celtics’ defensive lapses proved costly as the Cavaliers mounted a furious comeback. Georges Niang and Dean Wade led Cleveland’s charge, tying the game at 99 with just over three minutes remaining.

In the closing moments, Porzingis stepped up for the Celtics, earning a crucial three-point play to put Boston ahead 104-103. However, their inability to secure rebounds plagued them once again, allowing Wade to slam home a missed layup by Darius Garland and seal the Cavaliers’ victory.

The defeat snapped Boston’s win streak and served as a stark reminder of the importance of defensive consistency in maintaining leads. Despite a valiant effort by individual players, the Celtics will need to regroup and shore up their defensive efforts to bounce back from this disappointing loss.

The Boston Celtics embarked on their late-season road trip with confidence, buoyed by a string of impressive victories and aspirations of ending their 16-year title drought. However, the past week has served as a sobering reminder of the challenges that lie ahead, despite their status as heavy favorites in the championship race.

While the Celtics have asserted themselves as the class of the NBA, boasting the best record by a considerable margin, recent games have highlighted areas for improvement. A loss to the Cleveland Cavaliers earlier in the week exposed vulnerabilities in crunch time situations, underscoring the need for growth and refinement in critical moments.

In their latest matchup against the Denver Nuggets, billed as a potential NBA Finals preview, the Celtics faced formidable opposition in the dynamic duo of Nikola Jokic and Jamal Murray. Despite a valiant effort led by Jaylen Brown’s impressive 41-point performance, the Celtics fell short as they struggled to contain Denver’s offensive prowess.

Jayson Tatum, who had faced scrutiny for his performance in previous games, found himself unable to deliver in crucial moments once again. The Celtics’ inability to execute defensively and capitalize on opportunities ultimately led to back-to-back losses for the first time since November.

Despite trailing by a significant margin late in the game, the Celtics mounted a spirited rally that nearly culminated in a miraculous comeback. Jrue Holiday’s clutch shooting provided a glimmer of hope, but ultimately, the Celtics fell short as Jokic’s alley-oop to Aaron Gordon sealed their fate.

Jason Kelce Moved to Tears by Hometown Cleveland Cavaliers Video Tribute: ‘Congratulations Jason’

Jason Kelce still had some tears left to shed on Tuesday night when his hometown Cleveland Cavaliers paid tribute to him with a video message during the first quarter.

Jason Kelce Moved to Tears by Hometown Cleveland Cavaliers Video Tribute: ‘Congratulations Jason’

“Congratulations Jason on an amazing career,” the minute-and-a-half video tribute read as the Cleveland crowd gave Jason a standing ovation. The recently retired NFL center, 36, wiped away tears as the crowd cheered, according to the Associated Press. Next to Jason, his younger brother Travis Kelce lifted up a framed Cavaliers jersey with Jason’s name and No. 62 jersey number on it.

“Get on your feet!” an emcee yelled out to the crowd, “for a seven-time Pro Bowler and from the Cleveland Heights High School, Jason Kelce!” Jason and Travis, 34, were guests of honor at the Cavaliers game Tuesday night in Cleveland, where the NFL brothers grew up and both attended Cleveland Heights High School.

Their hometown NBA team honored the brothers with the first-quarter shoutout, courtside seats next to the Cavaliers’ bench and bobbleheads depicting both of them in Cleveland Cavaliers jerseys. “We had a blast,” Jason told the AP outside the Cavaliers locker room after the game.

Jason Kelce Moved to Tears by Hometown Cleveland Cavaliers Video Tribute: ‘Congratulations Jason’

Jason’s appearance at the NBA game came one day after his announcement that he’d retire from the NFL following 13 seasons — all with the Philadelphia Eagles. The longtime Eagles center gave an emotional, 40-minute speech that was frequently interrupted with him breaking down in tears and encouraging himself to finish his remarks, bringing an end to his playing career. “I love football,” Jason said during his speech Monday. “Whether it was in the backyard with my brother, in the playground with my friends or suiting up Friday nights at Cleveland Heights High School. I loved everything about it.”

Jason and Travis both played football at Cleveland Heights High School before each joined the team at the University of Cincinnati. Jason played four seasons for the Bearcats in college before he was drafted by the Eagles in 2011. Led in part by Jason, the Eagles won the Super Bowl in 2018 and made the championship game again the next year, losing to his brother’s Kansas City Chiefs team.

Tuesday night’s video tribute showed images from throughout Jason’s career, from him playing football in the backyard with Travis when they were kids all the way to him lifting the Lombardi Trophy over his head after winning the Super Bowl. “All he knew is that he was going to work hard and give it his best,” Travis said in Tuesday’s tribute video. “And sure enough, I was sitting there taking notes watching him do it the entire time. I only played football because he was playing football.”

SAD BUT TRUE: Jayson Tatum should not have taken the last shot ‎

It seems like there’s a significant debate brewing among fans and analysts regarding who should take the final shot for the Boston Celtics in crucial moments. The recent game against the Cleveland Cavaliers has only intensified this discussion.Paul Pierce seeing Celtics' sacrifices pay off this season - masslive.com

While Jayson Tatum has undoubtedly proven himself as one of the league’s premier players and a go-to option in clutch situations, there are valid arguments suggesting that the Celtics’ wealth of talent should be utilized strategically, particularly in the regular season.

In the game against the Cavaliers, despite Tatum’s prowess, it was Kristaps Porzingis who emerged as a key contributor down the stretch, playing a pivotal role in keeping the Celtics competitive. With Tatum struggling in the second half and Porzingis finding his rhythm, some argue that the final shot should have been entrusted to the hot hand.

Jayson Tatum: News, Stats, Bio & More - NBC Sports

The decision-making process surrounding the final shot is complex, especially when considering factors such as individual performance throughout the game and the dynamics of the team. While Tatum’s attempt nearly found the mark, there’s a sentiment that a more dynamic offensive approach could have been employed, utilizing the strengths of other players like Porzingis or Jaylen Brown.

Jayson Tatum NBA Preview vs. the Nuggets

In hindsight, there’s acknowledgment from Tatum himself that a quicker decision-making process may have been beneficial. With ample time on the clock, the Celtics had the opportunity to orchestrate a more intricate offensive set, potentially involving multiple players and creating additional scoring opportunities.

Ultimately, while Tatum remains a formidable option in clutch situations, there’s room for strategic adjustments in how the Celtics approach late-game scenarios, especially considering the depth of talent on their roster.
