Kansas City Chiefs rookie Rashee Rice recently opened up about teammate Travis Kelce’s high-profile relationship with Taylor Swift, saying that her presence has been a positive thing for the team’s popularity with fans.

 

The reigning Super Bowl champions are certainly not lacking in that department, but Swifts’ presence at NFL games has undeniably taken the fandom to another level.

“I’m happy for Trav. She’s real good [with supporting] the team and she brought a lot more fans to the team too,” Rice said during a recent appearance on the “Airing It Out podcast” with former NFL player, TJ Houshmandzadeh.

Rice, who was drafted by the Chiefs in the second round of the 2023 NFL Draft, said he has been around the international pop sensation during his downtime with Kelce and quarterback Patrick Mahomes.

“I’ve seen her, but I didn’t go up to her like ‘Can I get a picture?’ or nothing like that.”

“You know, those guys like Trav, Pat – those guys invite us out because they know that we’re the only guys that see them every day and see them as for who they really are, not just like, ‘Bro you’re a superstar football player!’ Like nah, it’s just Pat, it’s just Trav,” he continued.

The time spent bonding off the field is certainly translating to chemistry on the field between Rice and Mahomes.

Rice has hauled in 68 catches for 754 yards and seven touchdowns through Week 15. His last touchdown in Sunday’s win over the New England Patriots set a new franchise record for the most receiving touchdowns by a rookie.

“You know, his game just keeps going up, man,” Kelce said of Rice. “I’m proud of the way he’s been able to handle the ups and downs of the season. Right now, he’s playing great ball.”

Rice has slowly emerged as one of Mahomes’ favorite targets – a bright spot for the Chiefs’ offense. He has played well over 85% of snaps in their last two games.

“We are carrying a VIP, a very important parent, this afternoon,” a flight attendant announced. “Mama Kelce is on board, everybody”

Southwest Airlines made a very important announcement to passengers on a flight from Las Vegas to Kansas City Monday: “Mama Kelce is on board.”

Donna Kelce, the mother of Travis and Jason Kelce, was traveling from Sunday’s Super Bowl in Sin City to Kansas City, Mo., for the Kansas City Chiefs’ victory parade, slated for Wednesday.

“You’re on a very special flight,” a Southwest flight attendant says in a video the airline shared documenting the moment. “We are carrying a VIP, a very important parent, this afternoon. Mama Kelce is on board, everybody.”

“Congratulations to her and her family and all the team over at the Chiefs. Well done, very proud,” the flight attendant adds, before going on to quote the 1986 Beastie Boys anthem “(You Gotta) Fight for Your Right (To Party!).”

“And also, I have one thing to say,” he teases. “Apparently, I’ve got to say, ‘You’ve got to fight for your right …’”

“To party,” the crowd, including Donna, shouts back, finishing the lyrics.

The Chiefs tight end quoted the song last year when the team won the 2023 Super Bowl and when celebrating their big win over the Baltimore Ravens in the AFC Championship in January.

Southwest captioned the post, which was a shared post with Donna, “We flew the MVP (Most Valuable Parent) home from The Big Game. W  you Mama Kelce!”

Some Instagram users expressed surprise to see the famous mom flying the budget airline.

“Couldn’t her son or Taylor Swift pay for first class or maybe a private jet???” read one comment, referring to Travis and his music megastar girlfriend.

Other comments praised the famous mom for her unpretentious ways.

“This woman does not need to fly southwest, but she does anyway. Down to earth queen! No wonder her sons are so grounded,” someone wrote.

Donna shared her own photo with the pilots in the plane’s cockpit, writing, “Thank you @southwestair (and especially Cheyenne L.!) for getting me to KC for the parade!!!!”

She also posted an image of a fan sporting a T-shirt that says “In My Travis Era,” a nod to Travis’ romance with Swift, still on the international leg of her Eras Tour.

After a run of four Eras Tour shows in Tokyo that wrapped up Friday night, Swift made it to Las Vegas to watch Travis help the Kansas City Chiefs win a second-consecutive Super Bowl.

Kelce and Swift embraced on the field after the game and stayed out on the Las Vegas strip until 5 a.m. celebrating with teammates, friends, family and thousands of fans.

“It was the most thrilling experience,” an insider told PEOPLE.

“She’s loved attending all the games, but this was of course on another level,” the source added. “They partied and celebrated all night. It’s been the best few months for them.”

Chiefs star tight end Travis Kelce said he is “heartbroken” over the fatal shooting that occurred just as the team’s Super Bowl 2024 parade in Kansas City came to an end Wednesday.

 

 

Kelce released a statement in which he called the events that took place on Wednesday a “tragedy.”

“I am heartbroken over the tragedy that took place today,” Kelce wrote on X. “My heart is with all who came out to celebrate with us and have been affected. KC, you mean the world to me.”

Kelce and the rest of his Kansas City teammates had just wrapped up a Super Bowl rally celebrating the team’s second consecutive title when gunfire rang out near Union Station.

The shots sent Chiefs fans diving for cover as gunfire came from just west of Union Station.

The team confirmed that all players, staff and their family members were safe and accounted for in a statement after the shooting.

The Chiefs called the incident a “senseless act of violence” and said that their “hearts go out to the victims, their families, and all of Kansas City.”

Police said at a press conference that three people were in custody in connection with the shooting.

Two of them were detained shortly after the shooting occurred.

 

The U.S. House of Representatives held a moment of silence for the victims of Wednesday’s shooting at the behest of Missouri and Kansas Reps. Sharice Davids, Mark Alford, Ann Wagner and Emanuel Cleaver.

The NFL expressed sadness over the day’s events.

“We are deeply saddened by the senseless shooting that occurred today at end of the rally in Kansas City for the Chiefs,” the league said in a statement. “Our thoughts are with the victims and everyone affected.

“We are grateful for the quick and thorough response of law enforcement and emergency personnel.”

More than 800 police officers had been at the rally when the shooting occurred.

The FBI was on the ground to assist with security for the event and was helping local law enforcement with its investigation, the bureau told the Kansas City Star.

The Super Bowl MVP Mahomes shared a message to social media around an hour after the shooting after the Chiefs were believed to have been escorted to Arrowhead Stadium.
