Despite the regular season yet to start, the NBA preseason is already underway. And one of the first matchups was a battle from the past year’s Western Conference, the Los Angeles Lakers taking on the Stephen Curry led Golden State Warriors.

The Warriors came out on top, as the coaching staff managed to try out the new duo of point guards on their team. But what was even hilarious is Stephen Curry leaving Anthony Davis hanging while he was busy chatting with LeBron James.

Stephen Curry busy with LeBron James

A battle right out of the West, the Golden State Warriors came out on top as they faced the Los Angeles Lakers in the preseason game. And with how the game went, the Warriors may have something to look forward to this season.

The Warriors coaching staff landed a gem in Chris Paul this offseason after trading away Jordan Poole. Paul, who had been on the opposite side of the court of Curry, finally hit the hardwood floor together.

Given that it was a preseason game, the stars did not play major minutes during the matchup. LeBron James did not suit up for the Lakers but Anthony Davis surely got some playing time for the game. As for the Warriors, Stephen Curry and Chris Paul finally got some official playing time together. And it wasn’t disappointing, given that the Warriors came out on top with a final score of 125-108.

After the game, LeBron James and Stephen Curry shared a hug and a few laughs at half court. While the two were talking, Lakers star forward Anthony Davis dived in and tried to dap up Curry.

Unfortunately for Davis, he was left hanging for quite a while before Curry realized that Davis had his hand up to greet him.

Fans getting a taste for the upcoming season

The game between the Los Angeles Lakers and the Golden State Warriors had a little something for everyone. The fans, even though did not get to see all stars suit up, did get a glimpse of a few.

As for the players, they got to see how the new acquisitions worked with each other on the court. Plus, the Curry leaving Anthony Davis hanging wasn’t the only hilarious moment fans got to see from this game.

Jonatha Kuminga ended up passing the ball to Steph when he was out of bounds and on the bench was another hilarious moment of the match. It ended up cracking up the entire Warriors bench. So, let’s see what the upcoming season has in store for fans.

Watch Steph Curry’s Dad, Dell, Sink a 3-Pointer From 40 Feet Away

    Like son, like father

Last night, Steph Curry notched 39 points and 8 assists in a Golden State Warriors win against the Charlotte Hornets, but his most memorable play of the night wasn’t one of his 11 3-pointers. Actually, it didn’t even come during the game itself. During Curry’s now-famous pregame warmup routine, he spotted his dad, Dell Curry, who does color commentary for the Hornets, pacing the sideline. Steph picked up an extra ball and chucked it at his pop, who scooped up the toss, lined up for a deep shot, and banked it in from 40 feet. It was an astonishing instance of Dell pulling an I’m-still-your-father power move, and it was even better to see the dad and son laughing and joking afterward.

It’s important to remember that Dell Curry was no slouch in the NBA. Steph’s pop recorded 16 productive years in the league, and he retired as the Hornets’ all-time leading scorer. His career 3-point percentage, 40.2 percent, still smokes the modern NBA average of 35.9 percent. Dell could shoot the lights out if he wanted, and it’s wonderful to see that he can still remind his son of that.

After sinking the shot, Dell pointed to Steph and called out, “Your turn.” And because Steph is like if you injected a ray of sunshine straight into a person, he laughed and pumped his fist in return. Of course, he also went on to hit those 11 3s. That’s pretty okay. Wonder if he could’ve done it wearing Dell’s suit though—maybe that’s still more impressive.

  • The Impact of Hank Luisetti’s Shooting Style on Stephen Curry’s Basketball Journey

    https://image2.affcoder.com/storage/images/169510979037IATsIkPocojhgwmvxi.jpeg

Stephen Curry is the NBA’s greatest shooter, and it’s often said that he changed the game. This is true, but Curry wasn’t the first player to change how NBA players played.

In fact, if it wasn’t for Stanford’s Hank Luisetti, Curry may have never had the chance to change the game. This was because Luisetti is credited as the player who invented what we know to be the jump shot.

“We made a trip to New York, played in Madison Square Garden and revolutionized the game,” Walter Vincenti, Stanford’s 1936 basketball team manager, said. “He [Luisetti] was unusual in his day. But people soon began to imitate him, and basketball became a more wide-open game.”

Vincenti was speaking about how, when all the other players were shooting either hook shots or the standard two-handed set shot, Luisetti was shooting the game’s first jump shots.

Now, there’s some debate about whether Luisetti actually created the jump shot. A player named John Miller Cooper has also been credited as the inventor of the jump shot.

Even if Luisetti did not create what we know as the jump shot, he was the one who made it popular. Just like Stephen Curry did not invent the three-point shot, but he sure did popularize it.

Luisetti continued to use his jump shot, which was a running jump shot, and this would change the game forever, like how Curry’s three-point shot has changed the game today. The reason Luisetti’s jump shot was such a game-changer was because it sped up the game.

The game was slow, as players took the time to get into their set shots. The jump shot was quicker and more fluid. This led to a fast pace style of basketball that not only saw bigger scores but it was more exciting, at least to most.

There were some people who didn’t approve of Luisetti’s shooting style and believed it was bad for the game. In a game between Stanford and No. 1-ranked Long Island University, a reporter wrote a piece about Luisetti’s shooting and it wasn’t to praise it.

“Some of his shots would have been deemed foolhardy if attempted by another player,” the reporter wrote.

Still, Luisetti and his new form of shooting, which his teammates copied, set out to do the unthinkable. They were going to beat the top-seeded Long Island team.

The game was played at Madison Square Garden, and Long Island entered the game on a 43-game winning streak. The arena was packed as most wanted to watch the best team, Long Island, play.

According to Stanford basketball radio analyst John Platz, he believed fans should be packing the stadium to watch Luisetti play.

“He’s certainly known here [Stanford],” Platz said. “Why isn’t he more revered?”

As for the game between Stanford and Long Island, Luisetti scored 15 points and led Stanford to a 45-31 victory over Long Island. This ended Long Island’s long win streak and gave the world its first glimpse at Luisetti and his jump shot.

    Stephen Curry Changed The Game
Stephen Curry was drafted into the NBA in 2009. At that time, NBA teams averaged 18.1 three-point attempts per game. As of the 2022-23 season, the league average was 34.2 per game.

Curry is the main reason for the change because not only did she start attempting a lot per game, he was making them at a high rate. As a rookie, Curry attempted 4.8 threes per game.

In Curry’s historic 2015-16 season, where he was named the first-ever unanimous MVP, Curry attempted 11.2 threes while making 5.1 threes per game. This type of shooting from Curry led to every team changing their game plans.

Today, centers routinely step out and fire up three-pointers. This is encouraged by the coaching staff. In the 1990s, if a center shot a three, he’d likely be pulled from the game.

Yes, things have changed. First, it was Hank Luisetti changing the game with his jump shot. More recently, Stephen Curry changed the game with his incredible three-point shooting.

The game has constantly evolved, and it’ll continue to happen. This is what keeps the game of basketball exciting and fresh.

Stephen Curry walking off the hardwood to embrace his emotional mother standing courtside was probably one of the most iconic moments from the Golden State Warriors’ 2022 NBA Finals win. Sonya Curry has been a rock for her four-time NBA Champion son since the very beginning of his basketball journey, helping him through every adversity along the way. However, she was also the subject of most of the trash-talking targeted towards Steph during his early years in Charlotte. And that too, because of her dazzling beauty.

Curry’s parents Dell and Sonya Curry decided to end their marriage of 33 years in 2021. However, the couple provided a strong family unit for all of their kids, including Steph Curry, till well into their adulthood. Curry has credited his parents’ dedication toward his development as the cornerstone for his success in numerous interviews. However, his parents were also the reason Steph had to endure taunts from his peers in high school.

Stephen Curry revealed how Sonya and Dell Curry became the subjects of the insults hurled at him in high school

Stephen Curry has always had privileges most people can only dream about. Steph’s father Dell Curry played in the NBA for the Charlotte Hornets and a few other teams. On the other hand, the Dubs guard’s mother Sonya was a college volleyball player and an extremely beautiful woman.

However, both his parents’ remarkable attributes ended up haunting Curry during his high school days in Charlotte, North Carolina. During a 2014 interview with Dan Le Batard on ESPN‘s Highly Questionable, Curry was asked whether his mother’s good looks posed a problem for him as an NBA star. In response, the then 26-year-old said:

Oh man, that’s the worst. I mean obviously she’s definitely a beautiful lady. And I guess the apple didn’t fall far from the tree [pointing at himself]…but she definitely gets her TV time when she comes to support myself, my brother at our games…Hey, I’ll take it in strides. Just be respectful about it. Don’t have to talk too much trash.”

Meanwhile, Le Batard’s co-host commented that it is surely a distressing experience having an attractive parent as a high schooler. “That and them telling me my dad paid off the refs-one of the two insults where they made their name,” Curry added with a chuckle.

It’s quite natural that Steph had to endure accusations of nepotism because of his father’s involvement with the NBA, especially considering the fact that the sharp shooter never really looked like a traditional NBA prospect. Jokes and taunts about his mother only added to the woes of the undersized guard.

Sonya Curry instilled a deep set of values in Curry

Curry has always ascribed a part of his success to God and his Christian upbringing. The Currys raised their children in a Christian household, instilling in them values that have helped them to excel in life.

In fact, Sonya once even barred Steph from playing an important high school game because he didn’t do his chores. That’s how you teach the importance of values and discipline to your children and guide them to the path of glory.

As a potential free agent this July, LeBron James has the potential to join any team he wants in a matter of months. But according to ESPN analyst Kendrick Perkins, staying with the Lakers is the only move that makes sense given where he’s at in this point of his career.

“Staying in L.A. is [LeBron’s] best chance at winning a title. We have three of four more years of this Anthony Davis that we’re been seeing this year,” said Perkins. “The Lakers are eye candy, LeBron James is eye candy, Anthony Davis is eye candy. This offseason, there’s gonna be a movie that’s gonna happen and then you start to fill in the gaps. Imagine if he gets another superstar-caliber player in this locker room.”

While this campaign has not gone according to plan for the franchise, help may be on the way sooner than later and the Lakers may be much better-equipped to contend for a title by this time next year. The key to success, besides good health, will be what the Lakers do between now and October and the latest intel suggests they’ve got big plans.

LeBron James’ Future Is Uncertain Amid Looming Free Agency

LeBron James has not expressed interest in leaving the Lakers but it hasn’t stopped all the noise across the league. When it comes to James, there was a lot of smoke this season about him potentially being traded to salvage the Lakers’ future. Eventually, Rich Paul himself had to come out and deny all the allegations.

Even so, LeBron is facing a serious crossroads in his career. He has a $51 million extension next season that he could use to determine his basketball fate. If LeBron wants to follow his son, Bronny, then it should be easy enough to figure out a way to link up wherever he gets drafted.

If LeBron goes for the championship or just breaks it off with the Lakers, there will be a number of teams looming. In the West, the Golden State Warriors are arguably the biggest suitors for James and their quest to pair LeBron with Stephen Curry is no secret at this point.

LeBron could also return back home to the Cavaliers. If LeBron opts for a more poetic ending, this may be the way to go — especially since the Cavaliers are currently second in the East and trending up.

Ultimately, only LeBron knows what the biggest motivating factor is at this stage of his career. But if he wants to win, he may be better off staying with the Lakers. He’s already got a championship with Anthony Davis and the Lakers apparently have reinforcements on the way. James would be smart to stick around and see it through, especially since the Lakers have a knack for staying relevant longer than anybody else.

After another up-and-down regular season, the Los Angeles Lakers are finally starting to resemble the team that made last year’s Western Conference Finals.

The Lakers have established their defensive identity and their offense has picked up as of late.

Anthony Davis has been leading the charge, dominating both ends of the floor and giving Los Angeles’ fans reason to be optimistic about their outlook post-All-Star break.

Davis is playing the best basketball of his career as he’s controlling the painted area on both ends and even showing a resurgent jumper.

The two-way star is one of the few game-changing big men in the league and would make a valuable addition to the 2024 Men’s Olympic team.

Davis revealed that he would happily accept an invitation to be on the roster if given one via Dave McMenamin of ESPN.

“I told the committee if they ask me to go, I’ll go,” Davis said.

Davis already has Olympic experience as he won a gold medal with Team USA back in 2012.

He was the final addition to the 2012 team that won gold in London, but would play a much larger role in 2024 if he does get an invite.

However, it almost feels like a lock that he makes the team given the injury to Joel Embiid who was a shoo-in to make the roster.

With Davis presumably set to make the national team again, filling out the rest of the roster will be interesting to say the least as there are several stars interested in representing the United States in Paris.

Lakers Expected to Show Interest in $190 Million Champion This Offseason

    Darvin Ham, Los Angeles Lakers

GettyDarvin Ham of the Los Angeles Lakers.

The Los Angeles Lakers had a quiet trade deadline.

The team opted to sign Spencer Dinwiddie in the post-deadline buyout market. But they were active behind the scenes, both looking for potential deals to improve the team as well as shooing away some prospective suitors of some of their players, namely LeBron James.

James drew interest from the Philadelphia 76ers, who were rebuffed by Lakers brass. The Lakers star declined interest from the Golden State Warriors.

Now, the Lakers could try poaching the Warriors, namely five-time All-Star Klay Thompson.

“I expect him to test the marketplace,” The Athletic’s Shams Charania said on the “Pat McAfee Show” on February 16. “I would expect both Florida teams, I would expect both LA teams, I would expect potentially a couple East Coast teams to have interest in Klay Thompson.”

Thompson, 34, is in the final year of a five-year, $189.9 million contract. The Warriors are just one game above .500 at the All-Star break, setting the stage for offseason changes.

One of those changes could very well be Thompson.

The four-time champion Splash Brother is averaging 17.3 points, 3.5 rebounds, and 2.2 assists while shooting 37.3% from beyond the arc this season. He’s also missed just 13 games over the last season-plus after injuries eliminated or marred three consecutive campaigns.

Lakers Would Be Getting a Diminished Klay Thompson in Free Agency

“He’s shown still that he can be Klay Thompson. He can go and help a team, I think to a high degree,” Charania said. “And then you have this question of his role, right? … But this is a guy, Klay Thompson – he’s a four-time champion, All-NBA, All-Star-caliber guy – now coming off the bench. That’s an adjustment.”

Thompson spoke candidly about Head Coach Steve Kerr’s decision to go with rookie Brandin Podziemski in the starting lineup over him.

“You can do two things, you can pout, or you can go out there and respond.”

Klay reveals how he shifted his mindset in coming off the bench after a talk with Kerr 👏

The 6-foot-6 swingman responded with 35 points on 59.1% shooting from the floor including going 7-for-13 from beyond the arc in the Warriors’ win over the Utah Jazz on February 15.

However, he is no longer the defender that he once was, particularly on the perimeter.

His time at power forward has increased this season as he is still a strong player. He has played small forward more over the last two seasons, per Basketball Reference. Thompson also has a career-worst 120 defensive rating, beating the mark he set just last season.

With no deal coming and nothing appearing imminent for the end of the season, the Lakers could have a chance to land a proven difference-maker in the postseason.

“They offered him an extension around two years, $48 million,” Charania said, comparing it to teammate Draymond Green’s four-year, $100 million pact. “As of right now, unless there’s a miracle extension, he’s going to test the marketplace.”

Lakers Looking at Tigh Salary Cap Situation

Money, as is often the case, could be the most significant hurdle for the Lakers to clear. Spotrac projects 10 teams to have at least $20 million in cap space next offseason, including the Sixers.

The Lakers could need Thompson – who has long embraced the Bay Area lifestyle – to want to remain on the West Coast and not eye some other sunny locale such as South Beach and the Miami Heat.

The Los Angeles Lakers appear to be on the way back up as they went into the All-Star break winners of seven of their past 10 games.

The Lakers have really hit their stride since changing the starting lineup, reverting back to the group that started most of the games during the 2023 NBA Playoffs.

However, the largest reason behind Los Angeles’ recent success has been the play of Anthony Davis who would be getting more MVP buzz if the team had a better record.

Davis did make his ninth All-Star team, though, and is in Indianapolis ready to help lead the Western Conference against the Eastern Conference.

During his All-Star media availability, Davis was asked which player he would’ve loved to play with the most and he picked Lakers icon Kobe Bryant via the team’s official Twitter account.

“The one player in NBA history AD wishes he could’ve played with? Kobe.”

Davis got the chance to suit up next to Bryant during the 2012 Olympics in London, but still picked Los Angeles’ legend as his preferred hypothetical teammate.

A tandem of Davis and Bryant would cause terror in the NBA as they would be one of the best two-way tandems around.

Bryant was no stranger to playing with star big men, and would have been a natural fit next to someone like Davis.

While the two will never get a chance to play next to each other again, Davis is honoring the Black Mamba’s legacy by helping lead the purple and gold to hopefully another championship.

Anthony Davis Opens Up On What It’s Like To Play With LeBron James: “He Took All The Pressure Away From Me…”

Anthony Davis details his experience of being LeBron James’ teammate.

    Credit: Kirby Lee-USA TODAY Sports

In an appearance on SiriusXM NBA Radio for All-Star weekend,  Lakers big man Anthony Davis revealed what it’s like to be teammates with one of the greatest players ever. As Davis mentioned in his response, LeBron has opened up a whole new world of opportunities on the court and he wouldn’t trade it for the world.

“I think my first year we had a conversation and he just told me, ‘look, don’t come in here and think the pressure is on you. It’s on me.’ He just took all the pressure away from me so I was able to just go out there and play,” said Davis. “And then we had another conversation in the last two years when the injuries happened and I was frustrated and he just said ‘hey man everything is gonna work itself out.’ Come back stronger, come back healthier, and then let’s get this thing going.’”

Anthony Davis became a Laker in 2019 after a blockbuster deal with the New Orleans Pelicans. At that point, LeBron was already in the Purple and Gold, and the Lakers were expected to compete for a championship right away. As a 3x champion himself, LeBron led the way for the Lakers early on and he made it clear that Davis’ only responsibility was to be the best version of himself on the basketball court.

Fortunately, his arrival was the piece that pushed the Lakers over the top, and they would go on to win a title a few months later. But after achieving that ultimate success in 2020, the Lakers have yet to match that play and now there are questions about if Davis and LeBron can ever win a championship together again.

Can LeBron James And Anthony Davis Win Another Title In Los Angeles?

A lot has changed since the 2020 championship and the Lakers today are almost unrecognizable from the group they had back then. After years of signings and trades (to varying degrees of success) the Lakers were finally able to pull together a run last season when they went to the Western Conference Finals with D’Angelo Russell, Austin Reaves, and Rui Hacimura playing significant roles.

The Lakers decided to run it back with that roster for this season and the results have been mixed. Currently, the Lakers are 9th in the West and are on track for a brutal fight in the play-in tournament. But they have looked a lot better of late, going 7-3 in their last 10 games to move up to 30-26 before the All-Star break.

The Lakers still have faith that they can win it all and there may yet be another Finals run in them based on what we saw last year. Regardless of how the season pans out, however, Los Angeles has plans to tip the odds in their favor this summer when they go in full pursuit of a backcourt star.

Ultimately, the biggest factor in team success for the Lakers revolves around Anthony Davis. As long as he is playing like the superstar he can be, they have a shot to beat any team in the league. This season, with averages of 24.9 points, 12.2 rebounds, and 2.5 blocks per game, Davis has been the best player on the team for his dominance on both ends and the Lakers will need him to keep leading the way if they want any chance to last four playoff rounds through April, May, and June.
